PLEEESE comparing Sega with Nintendo is like comparing apples with oranges. SNES was still a better system than Saturn, N64 was still a better system, better graphics and better games than Dreamcast (name me one, just one game that justified owning a Dreamcast or SAturn system? And if you can, I will bet a lesser game on N64 will beat it in graphics and qulaity).

AS for someone saying N64 was a failure? That is so wrong. I believe N64 was beating PS1 all the time, most people only bought one system of PS1, unless it broke, but I remmeber x-mas time, many families where buying couple of N64 system when they had the limited color systems, as well as multiple controllers/system, like the PIkachu system and Donky Kong system, many familes bought several N64 systems for they knew about collectability and qulity.

It is safe to say, Nintendo quit 64 for they created a more advanced system, GC, so it was time to move on. Had they didnt make GC, I am sure N64 will still be at the top, beating ps1 (and they destroyed Dreamcast).

GameCube is the system to own now, it is the ssytem of the future, There is no game out on x-box nor PS2 that beats GC games, GC versions of games out on X-box and ps2 are superior graphically(Mortal Kombat, Splinter Cell, BLOODAYNE, HITMEN), playablity wise. In a few years GC will rule over the other 2. I am enjoying playing RESIDENT EVIL 2 and 3 on GC right now, and also playing MARIO SUNSHINE for the 10th time, this is fun and excitiment.

Since Nintendo just bought back a ton of their stock...um I'd say that they are doing pretty well.

Come again? N64 is superior graphically to the Dreamcast? That's going to be a tough sell. As for games that make the Dreamcast worth owning, there are many but I'll name one. Soul Calibur. Now, it's your turn to name an N64 game that "beats it in graphics and qulaity[sic]".

What? I hope this is sarcastic too. Who buys multiple systems just for their different colors? Those are some pretty well-off families if they can just grab up one of every color. Plus, if they're planning on making money off of N64's collectability, they're in for a rude surprise.

At the used game stores here, the N64 is traded in more often than Genesis systems.

Collectable indeed!

"One game on the saturn that is worth owning?"

How about THESE?
Panzer Dragoon Zwei
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Guardian Heroes
Shining Force 3
Shining the Holy Ark
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Street Fighter 2 collection
Radiant Silvergun
Any of Capcom's 4meg games (Vampire Savior, VS games, etc)
Thunder Force V
Dungeons and Dragons Collection
Dragon Force
Iron Storm
Soukrygurentai
Battle Garegga
Sega Ages
Elevator Action 2
Nights/Christmas Nights
Virtua Fighter 2
Virtua Cop 2

I feel sorry for you if you haven't played any of these, but they are great great games. Naming awesome DC games is an even easier proposition, like Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi 1/2, Virtua Tennis 1/2, NFL 2k series, NBA 2k series, Ikaruga, etc

I still have a 3DO and a Sega CD. I could easily name a lot of games that are worth buying those systems to play.

I think the N64, Saturn, and Dreamcast were all great consoles.

Comparing Nintendo to Sega as a company is wrong though. Sega lost millions of dollars year after year while Nintendo was making record profits in the N64 years. They may not be doing that well with the GameCube, but they are still making a profit. Thats something Sega never did with any system after the Gensis.

I just read a blurb in a games magazine about Gamecube sales...

Nintendo recently announced widening losses and problems with excess GameCube inventories.
I was wondering if someone could find the source of this announcement and post a link to verify if it's true. I take any info gathered from any games magazine with a grain of salt - especially a console magazine... and especially if it's a magazine for a different console than the news blurb is about.

I know they annouced a while back that they were lowering their sales projections for the fiscal year. That was mainly due to Mario Sunshine and Metroid Prime not selling as well as they projected.

I'm sure there hardware sells are slumping though. The free game offer helped, but I'm sure many of the people into Metroid, RE0 etc. probably already purchased a console before the deal and there really hasn't been anything other than Zelda that's came out in the first half of this year that has any selling power.

I'm sure its true. There is no question the GameCube side of things is struggling.

Do you need more than 2 hands worth of fingers to count all the must-have exclusive Gamecube titles that have come out since launch? Maybe they should pump some of that extra gameboy money into making more first party console games. I wanna see more good first party Nintendo games just as much as anyone else... well... maybe not just as much - but I do wanna see em.

I could make the same arguement about the Xbox though. IMO the Xbox must have exclusives could be counted on one hand.

Problem with the Cube isn't its exclusives and first party titles, its the perception of being a system only for kids. Nintendo can't shake the image and I think it will be their downfall in the hardware business. Even when they do release good teen to adult titles like Resident Evil 0, Eternal Darkness, or Metroid Prime the games still get overlooked for the most part because the bulk of the GameCube games are still for all ages and the system is still just considered a kids system.

Quality of games is not the Cubes problem. Problem is just the domination by the PS2 combined with the kids only perception. Miyamoto won't change the way he makes games though so the kids games perception will always be there. Even if the truth is kiddy games like Mario and Zelda are hard enough to challenge any adult and better than 99% of the rated M games on the market.

Non violent and non sports games just don't sell well and that hurts many of the Cubes best games. Even PS2 games that were Nintendo like such as Rachet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Jack and Daxter weren't very good sellers and there are 50 million people to market those games to. Gamers want violence and Nintendo doesn't do violence very often so their system is passed over by the mainstream gaming audience.

Yeah, both the X-box and GC are sucking in the exclusives category for me.

Off the top of my head (and these are just personal "must have" not a list off AAA exclusives or anything like that).

GC must haves:

Metroid Prime
Zelda: TWW
Mario Sunshine
Rogue Leader
Super Monkey Ball
Eternal Darkness

X-box must haves:

Halo
Panzer Dragoon Orta

Upcoming GC must have exclusives:

Rebel Strike
Mario Kart

Upcoming X-box must have exclusives:

Halo 2
Knights of the Old Republic

I own over 30 GC titles and over 20 are GC exclusive. They may not be Nintendo titles but Sega and Capcom both have supported the GC fairly well. Screw Acclaim. More quality titles are coming from Sega and Capcom as well, F-Zero GX/Billy Hatcher from Sega and PN03/Viewtiful Joe from Capcom. With Square now onboard, Nintendo is looking even better. Mmm...Final Fantasy.

I recently bought my GC/GB Player combo for use with my GBC/GBA games.

I own only one GC title: Eternal Darkness

although I plan eventually to pick up all of the RE variants.

i agree completely, the N64 was a festering pile of CRAP of a console while the Saturn is home of some of the best games of ALL time. If you like 2d shooters and fighters and you dont have a saturn you're missing a LOT. The blurrygrafx 64 with its grow-a-third-hand controller, lack of fighters, shooters, and rpgs, was never worth much of anything. I owned the n64 from launch day until LD+1year... sold it... then bought another one a year later thinking that there might be something worth having on the system... and I was wrong. Even if Radiant Silvergun, Soukyugurentai, and battle garrega were the only 3 games you could buy for the saturn, it would still own the n64.

If you didn't care for the system, that's fine. But there's no reason to act like one of the 10 year olds on other gaming boards and bash the system, call it stupid names etc. Not to mention console bashing is against the forum rules here as per this thread.

The N64 may not have had (m)any shooters, RPGs, or fighters, but it still had it's share of good games in other genre's, especially platformers (my favorite genre) not to mention being the only place to play Nintendo's first party games

I agree with you that the N64 was very much not a failure, and it was indeed better than the PSX and Saturn.

But better graphics than Dreamcast? That's just silly.

BTW, Virtua Tennis would easily justify owning a Dreamcast. One of the best games ever made for any system.

Wow, I believe thats the most misinformed post in the history of this forum.

I liked the Saturn and The N64. The Saturn had nothing that could touch Mario 64 or Zelda Ocarina of Time. To the Saturn's credit it had some good RPGs and shooters. Neither console sucked and neither was a failure in my opinion though the Saturn from a financial standpoint probably fits into the failure category.
