Bill Lambiers Combat Basketball on the SNES was pretty bad.
The two worst games I've played this generation are Tao Feng (x-box) and Enter The Matrix. Neither are total turds, but they both suck pretty hard IMO. I'm sure there's a ton of games a lot worse than those two, but I make a point of not playing games I think will suck. I thought these two would be decent, but was hugely let down. |
Originally posted by Kainan Oh, but so many people do. Since FFVI or FFVII I've seen plenty of people voicing their displeasure of the FF games. The movies... I mean games only get worse it seems. Then the whole online idea flopped and didn't even make it to the US. I'll hope for the best with the next FF game. BTW - FFXI is coming to the US in Q1 2004 according to several publications and websites. As far as FFXI flopping- did it really do that bad? I thought that it just didn't sell as much as the other FF titles. And considering that you had to buy the PS2 hard drive to play it and that it appears as if not too many other games utilize the drive, doesn't it seem just a tad bit unfair to blame the game? |

I hate Final Fantasy, but I understand where it's a good game -- if you like RPGs, which I don't.
Bad games are truly awful. The ones that stick in my mind are driving games, only because I really enjoy driving games. The ones that come to mind are:
As far as ET goes, I was too young to understand how crappy it was. I actually have somewhat fond memories of playing it. I remember it being hard, and frustrating, but I figured it was because the game was above my skill level. I didn't realize the game sucked because I was so happy just to walk around as ET. |
Test Drive: Off-Road for the psx. I remember my friend running out and buying it as soon as it came out and coming home and swearing at himself 5 minutes into it because he wasted $50 on it. 6 years later and I still make fun of him for it.

The entire line of South Park licensed games for Playstation should be at the top of this list. The first one especially. It's a first-person-shooter where you run around throwing snowballs at giant turkeys! WTF?!

FFXI is considered a success in Japan. And will come out in the US as well as the hard drive sometime in 2004.

Beyond the Beyond for PS1. Especially hateful because I played about halfway through before realizing it just wasn't going to get any better (I think it was the only RPG available for PS1 at the time).

The worst game that I've actually finished is Okage. I picked it up on pretty much a blind buy. I had heard that it was pretty funny, and actually a good game... neither proved to be true. The humor was kind of refreshing at first, but then proceeded to be so incredibly lame and repetitive. The battles with their stupid Rock Paper Scissors setup were incredibly easy, and not challenging. I only finished the game because it seemed like I didn't have much more to do. It took me 10 hours to get to Chapter 5, which was 2/3 through the game. I figured it wouldn't take me that much longer I had come this far I could just finish it off, but then I found out that Chapter 5 WAS THE LONGEST FREAKING CHAPTER TO EVER EXIST! To beat all 6 chapters I ended up taking over 30 hours. When it was done I said "Wow... that was bad" and proceeded to delete my save file immediatly. I mean I've got a WHOLE lot of room on my card, but I knew that I would never ever play that game again, so it was okay

Recently .... Enter the Matrix for the PC

Originally posted by pixyboi A lot of the vocal resent you see is from people who grew up playing the original games. I can't really explain it so I'm not going to try. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Cecil vs Golbez days of FF2....I remember I used to play it all the time at a buddies house because I didn't have a SNES back then. Sheesh, that was like 10 years ago. I feel old. |
I don't mind SOME FMV and actually like it but I think things are getting out of hand! If done correctly then the FMV can integrate perfectly into a game and make it better. I just hate to feel like I'm watching a game. My biggest pet peeve isn't even a FF game but MGS2. It annoyed me to know end for that freaking radio to keep beeping and the videos to pop up constantly. This is one game that had my 4 year old son saying, "What is wrong with this game? I can't do anything!" As I watched I totally agreed with my son's frustration as we would play and go what seemed like a few freaking yards before something else interrupted us. I finally conquered the game but it was one of those, "Oh what a relief!" experiences instead of "Dang, it's over."

Originally posted by nickdawgy I played FF, FF2, and FF3 on NES and SNES, so I know the classic early feel of those games, sure. But I welcomed the changes, such as adding FMV or cutscenes. While you may be content with the no nosense, mediocre graphics, I prefer the updated eye candy this is FFX. Would I be content with no nonesne, medicore graphics? ***** yeah I would if there was a solid game under it. Therein lies the problem, the newer games lack the substance the older games had. There's no longer a sense of going on an adventure rather than just watching a [lame] story come together. The new games are so linear and lacking of any real thought behind the adventure. The "gameplay" is only there to serve as in-between the cutscenes fodder. You no longer go exploring, looking for treasure, and battle monster. You simply move from point A to point B (in a straigh line) and if you come across monsters you simply tap the A button a few times to dispatch them to move along to the next cutscene. But let's not forget the oodles of mini-games! Yes, instead of adding substance to the actual adventure they force you to play very non-RPG like mini-games to give you the sense thay you're actually "doing" something rather than just sitting there watching the game unfold. And that's the bottom line and the big difference between the old and new Final Fantasy: In the old games you played a story, in the new games you watch a story. If you prefer the new, that's cool.. I'm only explaining why some people may not like the series. |
Fair enough, these games are not your bag. They're too linear, the storys are too cliched and straightforward. Fine, I can totally appreciate that. But to state that FF VII or FF X is the worst game you've ever played? Well either you don't play many games or you're living some sort of charmed life.
Tell you what, maybe I'll mail you my daughter's copy of Sesame Street Sports and you spend a good hour with that bad boy and then if you can still tell me FF VII (which I believe you've beaten twice BTW) is the worst game ever, then I'll believe you :) |
I'll admit I've played worse games, no harm in that. Like I stated before, people are going to have different reasons why they think something is the worst? Is FF7 better than Sesame Street Sports? Probably.. Did I wait 3 long, painful years with all expectation that Sesame Street Sports was going to be a gift from God Himself? Nope. There's a much more personal impact with that.

The michael jackson game for the Sega Genesis. You could never die and you destroy your enemies by forcing them to do the moonwalk or the thriller dance. His weapon was the white hat that he would throw and kill enemies with. It was so bad that I had to play it 4x. :)

I think MJ would make for a great Sims expansion; think of the possibilities : Dangling babies, plastic surgery lab, fill your mansion with overpriced tacky crap and convince your neighbors to let their young sons spend the night in your bedroom. Now that's an expansion pack I'd like to see. |
There was this Genesis game, I think it came out with the second wave of games for the system. It had a 3/4 camera angle, and you were a crappy robot that moved around and fired crappy guns. I think it had either machine or tech or something like that in the title. Can anyone remember this game?
By no means am I talking about Herzog Zwei, one of the finest realtime startegy games of all time! Michael Jackson's Moonwalker was sweet! |
I bought Auto Modellista too... especially since it looked pretty good and had online racing. Little did I know that the physics model absolutely stinks, and that Midnight Racing 2 would be so much better. It's the last time I buy a game before a majority of reviews gets posted.
Gungrave was really, really easy. Worth 10 bucks at Target, though. I remember getting Beyond the Beyond because it was the only rpg out too... ugh that was a terrible game. Legends of Wrestling is a terrible game. Got it at Fry's a month after release for 20 bucks, and it's not even worth that. And I like old-school wrestling too... |
