Holy crap you guys are bringing back some memories.
Full Throttle, Bioforge (this was that cybernetic game by Origin right?), Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, etc.

My votes:
1) Earl Weaver Baseball - this game was so far ahead of it's time it wasn't even funny
2) Sim City - in it's purest form, still being duplicated to this day
3) Any of the old Sierra "Quest" games

Unreal Tournament
Quake II
Max Payne or King's Quest VI
Those are all games I can still go back and play.
I can't really get into old FPS games, and despite how much I loved 'em - I can't play the Gabriel Knight games anymore or a lot of old adventure games like I used to.

For me, it has to be:
1. Descent I
2. Quake 2
3. Half-Life
Grim Fandango was a great game though, but I still play the above three just for the fun factor.

Yeah, those adventure games tend to not be very replayable... at least for me. It's hard to decide on the best games of all time because I would rank them differently depending on whether I am considering the most fun experience I had at the time, or, which three games I would want if I was stuck on a desert island right now with no other games for the rest of my life...

I'd love to know this:
does anyone have any idea how I could possibly make Syndicate work in windows 2000? I'm trying to dig up my old windows 98 cd but haven't found it yet and not sure it would work on that anyway.
Also trying to play mechwarrior 2: mercenaries and that doesn't work either!
classic pc gaming is a bitch!
back on topic, i love:
Baldurs Gate 2
Warcraft 2
Ultima 4/5/7

You tell me that. Been playing some DOS game on my Win98 with frequent lock ups. Not to mention that sometimes the games are too fast for my machine.

Yeah I'm having problems with this crap too.
So I found an old pc of mine in my closet which will now be officially my "classic pc". Going to install:
Lemmings 2
Heroes 1, 2
Xcom: UFO Defense
Scorched Earth
Abuse
Sam and Max
I want to install Syndicate but for the life of me, cannot find it. This sucks. Anyone know how I can get it over the net legally somehow? Do really old games ever go up for download for free or anything? Or am I just talking outta my @ss?

boot into dos, which in win98 means restart in msdos mode or use F8 and select command prompt, instead of playing from in Windows
and if anyone wonders why the bump happened, I was searching the forum for mechwarrior and found this thread, I recently started replaying some DOS games on my win98se machine and thought I'd help
