I think nintendo is starting to upset there fans with the 2 decent games a year policy and other business tactics, just wondering what u guys think? Will nintendo be another sega?

Your timing for this poll couldn't be worse...Nintendo released the long awaited GBA SP and the new Zelda game today. The comparison to Sega is invalid in so many ways its not even funny.

And the gamecube is a great price but there aren't a lot of great games, same problems with the n64

Of course no, Nintendo is not done for, i own almost every system ever made, and Nintendo makes the best games period.

I have actually bought every version of the gb, but you don't have to, every gb game can be played on the GBA, the SP is great, i love innovation but if you don't there are no games that you must use the sp

As far as games go, there are plenty of great games on both cube and N64, I'm still picking up N64 titles i missed the first time around, i personally like to play and beat games, so i don't have time for half the great games on these systems.

Maybe, console-wise, depending on what happens with their next console system. But IMO, whether or not they continue in the console market, they will most likely continue in the hand-held department. I even finally bought a GameBoy (SP), something I didn't think I would do.

(What I mean about consoles are the systems that you need to hook-up to any kind of screen. Handhelds have their own so I don't consider them on the same level).

And you Mr Savage, you my friend sound to me like you are forced to buy everything you see. No one one said you HAD to buy another GBA, hell no one told you to buy every other system you listed. There are a lot of great games available for the GC the only problem here is your not willing to buy them. I dont see what you hope to accomplish by starting a thread like this. Granted everyone's gaming tastes are varied but you have to give things a try. Only one good game evey two years? I dunno about you but Soul Calibur 2 aint two years away, nor is Ikaruga.

Soul Calibur 2 isn't exclusive and Ikaruga has already been out for a year on another system (not to mention in the arcades)... that's not to say there aren't better examples of Nintendo releasing more than 2 popular exclusives per year.

This topic has been beaten to death before in previous threads, but it's been awhile since we've had one - so why not? I'll go ahead and go on the books as saying the GC will be their last home console. It looks as though Samsung might even enter the console market (not that it's certain it would make it over to the US if they did) and that kind of competition isn't something Nintendo could weather at this point I don't think. Surely they will continue to make games regardless of whether or not they continue to make hardware consoles. They will continue to make handhelds and they will most likely continue to dominate that market.

Sony and Microsoft are in it for at least one more round, but I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo decided not to make another. They'll never sell to Microsoft or Sony (a deal with Samsung is a possibility) and there's really no reason to think that they would quit making games or handhelds. So, Nintendo isn't gone by a long-shot. I could be wrong about the GC being their last console - I can't predict the future. Nintendo isn't even 100% certain yet (in spite of whatever they've said). We're still a year away from finding out for sure. There's about a 30-40% chance of them making such an announcement at this year's E3 and about a 70-80% chance of hearing about it at next year's E3.

Either way it doesn't matter because one thing's for sure - they'll continue to make games - and that's what they're best at anyway.

Right now Nintendo is the best "2nd" console if you are a serious gamer and a pretty darn good choice for having as an only console if you are a light gamer. I mean someone buying a GCN right now would have quite a few excellent titles to get before they ran out. Sure Nintendo doesn't flood the console with game after game, but damn they release some good ones. They aren't going anywhere IMO.

Also don't forget one of the reasons Nintendo doesn't have quite as many games for their system, is due to their royalty rights. Although they have moved from the expensive cartridges to dvd's, Nintendo still demands much higher royalties than Sony or Microsoft. higher royalties, means less profit for the Pub. and Dev. It's a shame they demand so much, cause I think if they brought down the royalties, more titles would be published, thus helping the system and appeasing fans of Nintendo.

I also believe for the three systems that were put out, Nintendo had the best overall batch of launch titles. Just my opinion. I don't think they are goin anywhere for a long time. Even Sega bowing out came as a shock. They have always been determined.

There are a handful of great games on the Cube, but I could never recommend the system as a sole console unless the person just LOVED everything Nintendo published.

I own all three and have always been a sentimental Nintendo fanboy, but if I had to ditch a system it would be the Cube without hesitation.

I hope there are some surprises at E3.

They have already announced unofficially through statements answering questions they are working on a next gen console and they are and will remain dominant in the handheld market. Since they are not losing money I do not see why they would leave the market.

That said they are a wounded champion and Microsoft and Sony smell blood. The next round could be the last for some in the console industry. If Samsung enters, as Trigger mentioned, and there are four consoles it could strain the gaming market a bit much.

I prefer my Gamecube, and could not give it up, but I feel that way about all the systems because of a game or two. That said, if I was forced to have one system and one system only it would be Nintendo for the first party games. Vice city is probably the only addiction I would be really hurting for.

Nintendo needs a couple things next time around, (some apply to Sony as well) a hard drive (memory cards blow), a better image for young adult gamers, and to really be a threat a must have adult game at launch to rival the Grand theft series and Halo. Metroid, Link and Resident Evil just aren't enough to get people excited - A new series is needed. They should develop it, thus ensuring their quality and release date, hell, start now so it is ready by the next console release.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo relaxed their royalty fees just yesterday. Maybe that will help spark 3rd party development.

I just bought a GameCube a couple of weeks ago and although I wasn't sure at first, I'm really glad I bought it. I see what Nintendo fans mean now about "quality over quantity". Metroid Prime is incredible, easily on the same level as Halo IMO. If I had to get rid of one of my systems (of the 3), it would a tough choice between the Xbox and the Cube.

Nintendo makes so much money with the GameBoy. They aren't going anywhere.

I only have a GC and XBox and if I was forced to choose one, I would get rid of the Xbox in a heartbeat. I've played many of the games, but out of what I own, I could have bought all of them either for the GC or PC, except for Halo. And even that will be out on a PC soon.

I love how trigger spits out all these random percentages about how Nintendo will be releasing some sort of info at either this years E3 or next years.

It's also funny how he KEEPS REPEATING how he thinks the GC will be their last console, even thought Nintendo themselves has said 'no, no it won't'.

As for Nintendo, they're in this for the long haul. Also, there have been tons of exclusive games this past year that have been great (mario sunshine, metroid prime, zelda, animal crossing, resident evil zero, super monkey ball 2, etc).

My son's first word was 'tendo'...

And I have been the proud owner of an NES, SNES, N64, GBP, GBA and GCN... and no one forced me to buy all of them, they just came out with a better product every few years...

... and I will continue to 'upgrade' when necessary (that and as long as they make the Mario Party franchise).

Not looking good for Nintendo in Britain

The Cube is struggling and will continue to struggle, but its doubtful it will be Nintendo's last console. The main reason for the struggles is the popularity of the FPS and Grand Theft Auto type games in the last couple of years. Not a genre Nintendo really does. Nintendo has put out some amazing games for the Cube. A lot more than just Zelda and Metroid, but they lack the violence and bloodshed thats popular with many teen and older gamers.

Nintendo is the best game publisher in the world so they are never going to go away. They are not a Sega. One day they may become a game publisher only, but I expect at least one more try at the console arena.

Your two quality games a year thing is nonsense. I could make the same arguement about the Xbox. I have 36 GameCube games, so there is some great stuff out there.

Them releasing a new game boy shows them listening to consumers and giving them what they wanted. If you don't want an SP you don't have to buy one.

The long lines I had to deal with picking up my SP and Zelda make me doubt they are going to fail.

I think Nintendo will be in the next wave of console gaming. Maybe you guys don't realize it, but Nintendo simply makes most of its money on GameBoy related sales alone. The GBA is getting very close to having more units sold worldwide than the Playstation 2 (it may have already overtaken it...haven't seen recent numbers). The GameBoy itself sold over 111 million units. Think about that...111 million units!

The fact is that Nintendo can afford to be #3 in the console market because they are #1 by a huge margin (and I do mean HUGE) in the handheld market. In many cases, Nintendo's own GameBoy games are just as good (with lesser graphics obviously) as their console games. Nintendo can afford to sit and bring out 2 AAA (via original posters statement...I think they bring out more than this personally) titles a year on the GC because the GameBoy is so popular.

Everyone knows the GameBoy is there...it's just that no one thinks of the monetary impact it gives to Nintendo. Nintendo has ruled the handheld market since 1989. That's 14 years of dominance with no sign of it slowing down.

Nintendo will be in the console game for a long time to come...at least until the GameBoy goes balls up. With 14 years under its belt I don't think it will though.

I am not a huge fan of Nintendo, but I will never want them to get out of the console business. We need more competition, not less. If there is only 1 console maker, trust me, the console will remain at $299 indefinitely... Competition is a good and healthy thing for the industry.

Nintendo just blew the doors off everything with the GBA SP. They are in no danger of going anywhere. Some people still refer to all videogame consoles as "Nintendos." I don't even think they are taking a loss on the GCs anymore, so it really doesn't matter if they are in last or 2nd place.

People please!! Didn't anyone read the quote in April issue of EGM?? Iwata (or some other high up Nintnedo exec) states, "When Nintendo exits the home console business, they exit the games business" or something along those lines - in short, they're saying that they're in it for the long haul.

I'll go on record as saying that the Gamecube will not be Nintendo's last home console. Nintendo's doing just fine.

The past has shown that Nintendo makes more profit, has stronger hardware sales and the most recognized brand names. They've said it. Industry insiders said it. The press has said it. Nintendo is not dropping out.

Does anyone have a single shred of evidence that the Gamecube isn't a moneymaker for Nintendo? Everything I have read suggests that Nintendo makes money on each Gamecube sold. Since everyone bitches about how much higher the royalty fees are vs Sony and MS, that suggests that Nintendo makes more money per game sold from 3rd parties than Sony and MS.

If someone can come up with any evidence that the Gamecube division of Nintendo isn't highly profitable, I'd like to see it.

I also have 36 games for the cube and twenty of them are exclusive. The others I bought for the cube over the ps2 because of a way better load time and because I just cant play on anything without a wavebird. I would also have to say that the game I have hands down played the most isn't Metroid or Mario, it's Animal Crossing. Nintendo will be all right. I have a console I'm happy with, not a PC.
