Metal Gear Solid 2 - the gameplay was nice, but the story was so convoluted it ruined the experience for me. I did get a few good laughs out of it, but by the end I was more than ready for it to be over.

Smash Brothers Melee - Awful.

Any Star Wars pilot game since Shadows of the Empire - Guh, boring.

Timesplitters 2 - Worst... controls... ever. Combine that with crappy graphics, ameture level design and textures and AI that makes Serious Sam look like online play.

Metroid Prime - while I didn't hate it, I didn't really find enough to keep my interest. I also somewhat resent all the kudos it gets for being the first this or first that. Gameplay-wise, it presented nothing new with regard to the lock on target system... Half-Life for the PS2 had it. Claims that it invented the FPA genre are silly since at least half a dozen FPS games for the PC had already been there done that. I did find the puzzle aspects that came about from the abilities of your character to be somewhat innovative to the FPS genre though and the level design was decent.

Final Fantasy series - Always hated the Console version of RPGs with turn-based combat and I really hated the fact that you move this duplo version of your character around and only get to really see what he/she looks like in cut-scene movies. Final Fantasy X was able to grab me for a week though with the storyline.

GTA - Vice City - I can't believe the public gobbled up this half-finished piece of buggy garbage. GTA3 was pure genius and this semi-sequel had potential oozing from the seams... however, they simply didn't spend enough time on it and it shows. The soundtrack also disappointed a little knowing what songs they didn't include from the library they had available. Hopefully they spend more time on GTA4.

Mario Kart - Oh god, why? Am I 4 years old? I mean, I'm not so closed minded that I couldn't enjoy a game like this but I never saw what was so special about how this game handled to make it so popular... there are plenty of racers out there that are more fun and more realistic (which is what I prefer and to each his own etc). Best I could figure was that this is so popular because exclusive or first party racers are slim pickins on Nintendo systems compared to the competition.

No Xbox titles that I can think of because the games I didn't like are games that were pretty unpopular anyway not to mention that there's only a handful of games on the Xbox that got really high ratings. Halo is one that I liked but I wouldn't rank it in my top 5 FPS of all time or anything. The levels were too repetitive. What made it so cool was the controls - perfect transition for someone coming from a mouse/keyboard setup. Panzer Dragoon Orta didn't really light my fire I guess, but it's pretty. :/ Poor Sega. Xbox needs to come out with some highly rated games. Oh wait - thought of one.

Wreckless Yakuza Missions (xbox) - Complete crap. Terrible game. High potential with almost no payoff.

Goldeneye - PC FPS games were years ahead of this pile of crap yet everyone goes gaga over it like it invented the genre.

Eternal Darkness - lame.

Street Fighter anything
Zelda anything
Mario anything except original Donkey Kong and Mario Sunshine
Golf anything except for Outlaw Golf - one of the best games ever.
Football anything
Baseball anything
Hockey anything
Warcraft
Starcraft
Diablo
Bauldar's Gate
Dungeons and Dragons anything

edit: State of Emergency also sucked really bad.

I like many games - I have hundreds of games that I love. I have more games than I have time to play them. I only named like 40 or 50 games there... About that many games come out nearly every month... gimme a break.

edit: oh yeah, add Devil May Cry and Onimusha to my list.

Splinter Cell drove me batshit insane. But I can definitly see why it's so highly rated.

With all due respect, I seriously don't understand how anyone couldn't like Halo, though. If you don't like that game, you probably don't like FPSs.

I don't like "stealth" games like MGS or Splinter Cell. To paraphrase another poster, they feel more like work than fun. Exception: Thief.

I've never gotten into sports games, although they are wildly popular. Then again, I'm not into real life sports either. Exception: Summer Games by Epyx. That game was a blast!

I don't like much in the RTS genre. I real try to give it a chance, but every new game doesn't seem any more advanced than the original Warcraft. Exception: Sacrifice.

I'm not big on fighting games. It's just not my bag, baby. Exceptions: Virtua Fighter 2 and Super Smash Brothers Melee.

Those dancing and rhythm games. Push the joystick in the direction of the arrow. Oh boy! Exception: None.

I hate Final Fantasy X, I played for 20 minutes and lost interest. Resident Evil series, I hate the way they used the controller, didn't like it. And all FPS and Sports games.

Without a doubt, Total Annihilation.

I bought that game from the bargain bin a few years ago. I played it for about 4 hours before deciding that it was the most boring RTS-type game I had ever played. I got more enjoyment out of Earth 2150 than I did from that turd.

I cannot see any appeal at all, and people talk about it like it was the second coming. Bleah.

And I'll throw another vote in for Super Smash Bros. Melee. Button-mashing crap.

I do need to say one thing about Goldeneye, totally from my perspective. My college roommates and I loved the game because we each had a controller and it was very easy for the four of us to pick up and play. At that time there was only one computer in the apartment, so the better FPS's that were being done on the PC wern't available to us.

With the element of stealth, the unlockables, the various mission objectives, the gadgets and the weapons, the outstanding multiplayer, it was a very complete package.

Just my opinion of course.

I'm just taking that as he doesn't like the FF series in general. Nothing to do with console bashing.

I HATED Rogue Squadron: Rouge leader II or whatever its called.

Just too damn hard for me. And I got myself so pumped up for it after watching all the videos online I was just so dissapointed that I couldn't get past most of the levels. I hated the whole 'medal' thing too.

I probably would have loved that game if it would have come with a 'retarded old-guy' skill setting.

Nobody mentioned Tony Hawk games. I tried Tony Hawk 3 on PS2 and Tony Hawk 4 on Xbox. Boring! I played each for 30 minutes and thought it was completely lame.

Quick to jump to conclusions, heh?

I only like certain types of games (sports, racing, fighting, adventure, shooters) and don't like platformers, rpgs, etc.
The topic was HIGHLY Rated games you hate. Nintendo makes highly rated games in the genres I don't like. I hate platformers like Crash, Spyro, and Rayman, but those games are not as highly rated as Mario and the topic was highly rated games you hate not average games you hate.

Just so you know.. (most)people don't like Mario Kart because it's a high quality racing game. They like it because it's a really fun party game. It's not supposed to be a realisitic racer, obviously (I mean come on.. Mario is driving around in a go-kart.. how can it be realistic). The fun part is 2-4 player battles.

Anyway.. I've got one or two more to add.

Eternal Darkness.. although I don't hate it, and it had some good moments.. overall it wasn't a good game. Too short and too easy and too repetitive.

Every turn-based fighting RPG. Most RPG's for that matter. I don't see a game in most RPGs.. just a story and some statistics for your character. And that doesn't do anything for me.

All I can say is wow... How in the HECK can you hate the Zelda franchise? I would like to see some reasons behind that one. A Link To The Past and The Ocarina Of Time are arguably two of the best games ever made, and it would seem that Wind Waker is going to follow right in those two's footsteps.

The time you guys spend hating these games is less time you have to enjoy the games you DO like.

Lighten up. It takes no time to hate a game. You play it, you find it isn't for you, and you move on. It's not like we're all sitting around brewing about it.

The Sims (I don't hate it, but I don't understand why it's so popular)
The Mark of Kri
NFL 2K series
NBA Live 2003 (sure it was a improvment, but it's still got a long ways to go until it reaches NBA 2K levels)
High Heat Baseball

Yeah two pages of

I hate[insert game title here]anything and I need to lighten up? No offense Groucho but I dont think you've kept up on current events have you? Threads like these, are not unlike those found in the Movie Talk, where people openly bash each other and everything. I just think energy wasted on posting about how much you HATE something is just useless. This thread will either get closed or deleted, so it really makes no difference anyway.

Feel free to have an opinion, just dont needlessly complain.
