2003, Year of the Gamecube?

IGN recently had an article about GC's showing in 2003. As slow as they may have been, they may come back and get that 2 spot back in the systems battle. Take a look:

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - March 24
Animal Crossing 2 - TBA 2003
F-Zero GC - June 23
Mario 128 - TBA 2003
Pokemon Gamecube - TBA 2003
Mario Kart GCN - TBA 2003
Pikmin 2 - TBA 2003
Starfox Armada - TBA 2003
Mario Tennis - TBA 2003
Mario Golf - TBA 2003
Camelot RPG - TBA 2003
"HAL Secret Project" (possibly Smash 3) - TBA 2003
Too Human - TBA 2003
"Silicon Knights Secret Project" - TBA 2003
"Game Zero" - TBA 2003
1080 Avalanche - TBA 2003
"NST Secret Project" (possibly Pilotwings) - TBA 2003
Final Fantasy: Chrystal Chronicles - TBA 2003

Pretty much the moral of this story is "Be Patient With Nintendo". Probably the second half of this year is when Nintendo will kick ass, we'll see.

As a staunch Cube supporter, I'm excited for about 2/3 of those.

I love my little box.

I'm already very happy with my Cube, but I'm little worried about the sports game situation. It's also a little disappointing that only two of the games you listed have concrete dates announced. I wouldn't be surprised if half of those games weren't released until 2004.

People said the same stuff about 2002. If Mario and Metroid couldn't do it, I don't think anything will do it. (unless Nintendo decides to become aggressive with advertising)

However, I personally am looking forward to almost all of those. The gamecube alone kept me happy last year, looks to do the same again this year.

For myself.. Zelda and F-Zero are really the only things that peak my interest. The HAL game is probably something Kirby related.

There are definitely some good games I'm looking forward to in that list. However, as Zig mentioned, if Mario and Metroid couldn't do it, I don't see Pikmin 2 or F-Zero putting them over the top. Zelda is probably the only bonafide system seller in the entire list and I'm willing to bet most of the avid Zelda gamers already own a Cube. I know I sure do!

Exactly, now if those TBAS next to 2003 actually turn into a date, then I will be one happy 2BE owner of a platinum GC. Hence also a member of the trifecta club.

Zelda: Wind Waker and Zelda: Ocarina of time are the only games i'm really excited about for the Gamecube as of right now. I'm sure somewhere along the lines a great game will come out of nowhere. But I'm really excited about the Xbox lineup of games that I could have been playing last year (Star Wars: KOTOR, Brute Force), and then who could forget Halo 2

As an old school Nintendo fan I know TBA means "eventually". If all of them come out this year I will eat my wavebird (again ).

While not necessarily "GameCube", I do think the things Nintendo is doing with the Game Boy and it's peripherals could be big this year. Regardless of your opinion on Pokemon (can't stand it myself), those two games coming out for the GBA in March oughta do pretty well (although not as well as Pokemon did three-to-four years ago). Then, of couse, the GBA:SP launches in the states about a week after the Pokegames come out, and then in May, the GB Player for the Cube launches. And then, in the second half of the year, whatever Mario game they release for the GBA, be it SMB3 or a totally new one, will be pretty big.

Right now, outside of Zelda and Mario Kart (Tennis and Golf, too), I'm not too hyped for anything coming out for the GameCube itself--I'm more interested in all the GBA stuff, which is odd, because I've always been more into the consoles than the handhelds.

I put stars by the ones I think will actually come out, some others I hadn't heard of so I have no idea.

In order to be "groundbreaking", it would have to be something of which you didn't have foreknowledge. So it stands to reason you wouldn't be anticipating it. Just a thought.

I personally would have to say Mario Kart is a "bona fide" seller. If that was the only game that came out this year I think I would be content.

it's ok, i only PS2 and GCN and i'm looking much more forward to cube this year, a lot of the titles seem interesting but most of those games dont even have dates or any real media! also, i like mario golf and tennis, but i doubt i'll buy both of them for $50 each just for better graphics. i'll buy mario kart though.

It's just my opinion, but I don't think any of this stuff really jumps out as being something that would sell systems - I mean not to many people that don't already own one because of games like Mario Sunshine or whatever. Now - the capcom games that were committed to the system recently would be more likely to draw in new gamers, but I don't know when those come out. F-zero also looks good, but I don't know how many people would really buy a system just for a zero-G racing game... Xbox has Quantum Redshift and PS2 has WipEout. Who knows, maybe PS2 and Xbox will cancel their lineups and show up with nothing in 2003 and then GCN will pull ahead.

Its a good lineup of games, but all three consoles have solid lineups for 2003. As many have said, the people looking forward to the Nintendo first party games already have a GameCube. The order is set in the US and its not going to change. PS2 is just too dominate overall and the teen to early 20's market Nintendo is missing is already tied into the Xbox or PS2.

For those of us that already have a Cube its a great lineup, but I don't see Nintendo doing anything to pass the competition. None of those games seem to be the type of FPS or Stealth combat games that are selling so well right now.

Zelda, Mario Kart and F-Zero could all possibly move some more systems. Enough to make a serious impact? Doubtful.

My Cube will easily be getting the most play this year.

I see 5 games that I'll be picking up.

Finally... time to dust of the cube!

Those are the ones I'm interested in, with asteriks by the ones I think will make it out this year.

I'm sure there will be some sleeper games too (ala Eternal Darkness last year).
