Should of bought Mech Assault sooner

The other day I really needed to get out and treat myself to something before the stress of work got to me. It was either going to be a DVD or a game.

While I was in Toys "R" Us I spotted a copy of Mech Assault over by the register. It said "29.99 Damaged Case". The spine of the case had been ripped a bit but everything else was fine. This was a game that I didn't have much interest in but 20.00 off sure changed my mind.

I really wish I had bought this at launch instead of Unreal. LIVE is way better when you have a decent game to play. My first online game started with some guy telling me to pick a bigger Mech for the next round. I did damn_well with the smaller Mech and shut him up fast.

Now I really need another modem or a router cause I really would like to play more often but hate stealing the connection from my PC. Time to start looking.

Agreed, it is kind of a pain to keep doing the ol' switcheroo. Too bad routers cost ~$50 (from what I've seen... if anyone's seen cheaper Live-compatible routers, PLEASE let me know).

And MechAssault is great, agreed. I bought an X-Box because of it. Also great is dusting Atlases and Madcats in a Belial which I use to literally run circles around them. I was in one of the rivers in River City, and the same two guys kept coming at me one at a time. If they had just tried to get some range on me, they would've gotten me a lot quicker, but a bridge and the difference in elevation gave me a little defense. I took them both out twice or three times before I finally died. *sigh* Memories...

I got a D-Link DI604 for about $39.99 or less after rebates at Best buy. They seem to have periodic specials on them. Works great.

My current favorite is the Catapult since it has IMO the best missiles and a LOT of jump juice.

The only part about the online that I didn't like was the fact that only 2 people could play on LIVE. Isn't that right?

The only time Unreal was fun would be when 3 of my friends would go LIVE with me and we'd play together. Seems only 2 can go on with Mech.

I also had to break down and get 3 new controllers since I've only had one for the past 5 months or so. Target had the Mad Catz ones for 14.00 so I figured I'd load up. My friends and I played every multiplayer game I own the other night and had a blast.

I really just want to move my PC out to my living room. Everything else is in there so it makes sense. I honestly would never leave that room if I did that. I sleep better on my couch than I do on my bed.

Yeah it's fun.

But after a while, it starts to get pointless.

Barney, aren't most shooters like that? How many times do you have to get killed in UT until you have seen every way to die? For some reason though some games, like UT, are still fun years after you started doing it. I just got MechAsault last night and had a blast. I usually hate Mech games too. I got on Live and had a great time though I do need to figure out which Mech is best and hwo to use each one. I think I'll enjoy this for some time.

I got in on that Office Depot deal for the Speedstream 4 port for 28 - 20 mail in rebate.... it works like a charm, and for $8 !

Normal DM on MA is pretty boring IMO, but team DM is pretty good, and Not It is just awesome. Generally because I have trouble getting into a game, I host my own. I just start at Colosseum and play one round of Not It for every map down the list. Often you can get the same players each time. I really hope the patches fix the lobby and let you play rounds without having to start brand new games every time -- it gets sooo damn old. Looking forward to CTF as well.

Wish multiplayer on the same tv was horizontal instead of vertical though -- is there a way to change that? The view is so constricting that way.

Very True, I like the shooting aspect but there has to be some type of objective as well...(that's what I meant)

I play CTF on UC, that's fun. It's not shoot shoot shoot die, shoot shoot shoot shoot, shoot die... lol

btw Team Deathmatch in MA is fun. I play that weekly.

If your cable modem has a USB and an ethernet port, you might not need a router for two connections. Some allow you to use both at the same time as long as they're going to different machines.

Haven't had any issues with the DI-604 since I bought it last fall. Haven't tried it with xbconnect or anything non-live yet though.

I have it n my cart and I will ask my wife if it would be a good combined Valentines Day gift. When I take over the living room to play games she always wants to come back and surf around. She might like this solution. Hopefully as much as I do.

I went ahead and ordered the router today. I waited for a bit cause I didn't reallt think I needed one. Then I realized how much I wanted one and that's when I ordered it.

It even comes with a cable so it looks like I'm all set.

Thanks again for the deal. This will really make things much easier for me and will give my wife an option when I'm on LIVE.

I bought this wrouter for my PS2 network adapter and it works great. However the damn thing still will not work for my Xbox. i just went and got the newest firmware (2.16 - although MS said 2.17 was available. ?!) and I still can not get on Live. It tells me that Live is not responding. I have change all my cables and the auto detect, detects everything. I have set up the firewall the way MS said to and still nothing.

Anyone know a solution?

Oh hey....my thread is back.

So far I am loving my router. I did move mt PC into the living room and hooked it, the XBOX and PS2 up to the router. I haven't had a problem with it and haven't turned my modem off since a few days after the router deal was posted.

What's your ISP? With Earthlink DSL I had to go PPP and change a few settings manually. Been a while since I set up though, so I can't remember too much about it.

I have Cox Cable with a Motorolla SB1200. I have got a connection once, but during gameplay it kept disconnecting. So I just switched it back directly to the modem. My cable is a little ghetto right now, running it through the hall into the living room, but the cable works through the modem, and I have switched all the other cables.
