uhh since when is it against the rules to post something negative about a game? I honestly can't believe people are thinking of buying this game... All the time I hear about how gameplay reigns supreme over graphics, yet when a pretty game with girls in bikinis comes out, everybody wants to get a good deal on it? That's just a tad bit hypocritcal... I post a thread wanting to get some deals on C&C Generals which is going to be a great game and got zero replies, and this one is getting tons of responses, how sad... There are much better games out there right now, Panzer Dragoon Orta immediately comes to mind. When I read the review on this at gamespot, it isn't even a volleyball game... It's sad that games like this will outsell *GOOD* games like NFL 2K3, Gunvalkyrie, etc...

I take it by your extreme knowledge you've played the game a bunch, huh?

Otherwise: :crap: :crap: :crap: :whofart:

how do you buy your partner a present?

Go to the accessories or sports store, buy an item, then wrap it. Once you have a wrapped item, you can give it as a gift.

PS the game sucks :)

If all goes well then no. Owning two consoles and having some dignity restrict me to buying games that deserve to be bought. If I wanted to play dress up the pretty lady then I could go buy a Barbie doll. Now back to Splinter Cell.

Haven't tried it out yet, but I believe you can do so at the hotel at night.

Well you aren't going to like Splinter Cell 2 then, because a lot of the game revolves around by Sam Fisher cute new assassin outfits to sway his favor, and giving him gifts to convince him to go on different missions. The more he likes the gifts and outfits, the harder the missions.

Spiderbite 01-23-03 07:33 PM

Well, I spent the last couple of hours playing the game and I have to say that I had fun. The gameplay is easy (almost a little too simple) and the very minor rpg elements are interesting.

It is kinda fun getting gifts everyday. You can watching old DOA videos and just sit on a log or riding a bike. I like the casino as well although I seem to suck at slots.

I wish there was more interaction with the other girls on the island other than just volleyball games (and no, I don't mean naked tickle pillow fights). I also wish you could explore the island more. You are kind of on a set schedule and it is nighttime before you know it.

No nudity that I have seen except for Christie in the opening movie. It flashes by so fast and has shadows covering everything so I don't really know if you could call it nudity. There is a hint in the booklet that says to watch for swimsuit changes at the pool but I never saw any other girls at the pool when I was there.

It doesn't seem like not eating or resting really affects your game. It does help to have a strong partner. I would figure that there are some cheats and hidden stuff on the game that I am sure we will hear about soon.

Interesting game. Strangely addictive so far. I give it a 7.5 out of 10. (My wife even watched me play it and did not give me crap!)

bluntman72 01-23-03 08:07 PM

Its a simple T&A game, but after playing serious games for a while it is a nice distraction and well worth the $10 plus 2 old games I don't play anymore.

rotfl

Crap, I think... I need to kill Sam Fisher.

spainlinx0 01-23-03 08:59 PM

I always like a volleyball game, and I'm not going to lie and say the T&A doesn't make it more interesting, but what I want to know is how the game plays. My friend owns Sega Beach Spikers and I played that game a lot, and am very good, but I sometimes feel that I am cost points by the terrible camera system. How good is the camera, and how does the game play?

O......K...

I really don't see the point of that post... are you mocking the game you are trying to defend or something? lol. Man this DOA game makes me wanna puke.

menaz 01-24-03 01:00 AM

SuprVgeta, I dont want to start an argument but you seem to be very close minded. Seems childish that you get upset because a post about a game you dont like gets more attention than your posts. You have to understand people have different tastes, and others, like myself, have a whole variety of tastes. I love Splinter Cell, its a great game, but I also like simpler games like this DOA whenever I am not in the mood for complex gameplay.

Keep an open mind and remember YOUR opinion of what a *GOOD* game isnt necessarily somebody elses.

SuprVgeta 01-24-03 01:06 AM

What gave away that I didn't like this game? :) To each his own, but I recommend that you look for better games before taking the shallow dive of T&A that this game promises. Last time I'm looking at this thread.

Gizmo 01-24-03 03:06 AM

Hey...in the back of the Manual, it mentions something along the lines of fighting..is it a secret?

V-ism 01-24-03 03:32 AM

When I first played this game, I was a bit underwhelmed by the gameplay. But the longer I play it, the more I enjoy it. It plays a bit differently from Beach Spikers, but is just as fun, if not more. To say it is just a cheap T&A game without even trying it is messed up. For one thing, you have no right to judge a game if you haven't even sat down and tried playing it. Secondly, to discredit a game for any value just based on the fact that it has sex appeal is unfair. Was Tomb Raider a bad game because it featured a woman with large breasts? Is so-and-so actress a bad actress because she has a nice body and a pretty face? (not always) How many critically acclaimed films also have T&A in it? Many. Nobody complained about Beach Spikers, which was also a beach volleyball game with only girls, which you can also change what they wear. Nobody complained about Dead or Alive 3 which feature the same exact girls with the same body shapes as they do now, and they wore skimpy clothes too (okay maybe a few did complain, the world isn't perfect.)

But if you have played it, and are disappointed by it, hey, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. At least you tried it out. And you still have to admit, it has some of the best character models out there. And the animation is very fluid no matter when and where you hit the ball (or when or where the ball hits you :) ). Graphically, I think it is up there with Halo, Splinter Cell, and DOA3. Sure, it's a bunch of girls in skimpy swimsuits on a beach (just like you would see on a real beach). But where else have you seen such detailed and nice looking characters? If you made them all wear jeans and tshirts, the game would still look good, though it wouldn't make sense.

But yes, graphics do not make the game, but it's alot to appreciate. Unlike BMX XXX which was blatant sex forced into a craptacular game with craptacular graphics and gameplay. But DOA does have a valid volleyball game. It may seem simple, but it is fun and going against another good player can be very competitive and challenging. But it's easy for anyone to pick up and play. I love it when you time it just right and hit a hard spike into a blocking opponent and smacks them in the face and they go crashing into the sand. Good times!

The thing I always liked about the DOA series is that you can pick your favorite costumes or change it up for changing sake. Same applies to volleyball, with tons of suits to obtain and use against your friends. The relationship aspect is surprisingly deep. You can tell when your partner is giving up hope on you and playing less enthusiastically, or when they are getting tired of playing game after game. But of course, if you aren't into all that dress up, collecting, and relationship stuff, you still have a decent volleyball game. I like Beach Spikers and DOA, but I have to admit, Beach Spikers is pretty boring to look at. If you're gonna play a volleyball game, why not make it nice to look at ;). Unless of course, you don't like girls, then I can understand why this game isn't for you. BTW, my girlfriend played the game with me, and she likes it alot. She always says the girls are cute, and she keeps saying stuff like how she would like to have the certain swimsuits herself. But she also says the game is naughty, not that she's against it. My gf doesn't play alot of games, especially when they are complicated to control, but here I have another game I like to play and she can play with me. She also liked playing DOA3, but doesn't play any other fighting games, hmm.

Maybe because C&C Generals is the fifth or so re-packaging of a game that got old years ago. This is a new game packed with girls in skimpy swimsuits on a beach, why shouldn't it get more attention. :)

gabeon 01-24-03 10:13 AM

Not to get too off topic on the debate over sexual content in or implied in any games today, but I have a question concerning DOA: XBV.

Is the official release date today? It says 1-24-03 on IGN, but most of you seem to already have it. I checked at Blockbuster yesterday, and they did not have the game for rent. I just assumed that the game won't be on the shelves until tomorrow.

Thanks.

menaz 01-24-03 10:48 AM

Takes a while for blockbuster to get them in, usually 1-2 weeks.

I've heard people mention fighting, beauty pagents, dances...No one has said they've gotten to this, but I'm starting to think there's quite a bit to this game under the surface, and only time will reveal how deep it may be.

I'm interested to see how this game grows after time...

Okay, just a few quick thoughts....
I got this for three old games and $6.70, and would have paid full price.

I popped it in late just to 'check it out' but next thing I knew...it was the full 14 days!

I HAVE Splinter Cell, and many 'serious' games and LOVE them, but this is sorta fluff that you can relax to.

My wife got home, checked it out, and this is now her fave X-Box game. She LOVES shopping, the different suits, volleyball, and the pool hopping game...and especially the casino.

I think some people are overlooking the fact not all women see this as sexist. If you think about it, this is more of a game a non X-Box fanatic can get into than Splinter Cell...what female appeal is there?

My complaints are the same as others...the Japanese voices..why couldn't they have dubbed those for such a big release???

Also, lack of depth...but cheats will prove otherwise.

I'm sorry but that's just bull. People know their own likes and dislikes and can generally tell whether or not they will like something just by knowing what the game is about.

Same with movies. I can see the previews for one of those lame ass Rob Schneider movies and no that there's no chance in hell I'm going to like them.

For this game I know:

1. A volley ball game doesn't interest me as I don't like volleyball. At best it would play like Virtua Tennis, which bored me to death. Whacking a ball back and forth just gets old fast in a video game.

2. Polygonal babes are a turn off to me. It's just too low brow for me.

3. Playing dress up, giving gifts to keep your partner happy, etc. doesn't interest me at all.

So the only problem I have is that the guy wasted his time posting 3 or 4 times about a game he has no interest in. Once would have been enough. But that doesn't give anyone a right to criticize him for stating his thoughts on the game. You can certainly form an opinion on somehting without playing it. With the internet you can pretty much know everything about a game without playing it.

I hope you didn't buy Sims for PS2 then because a lot of it would entail just this, and that's even with the missions they tacked on. :)
