Leaving right now to go get mine. While I am excited I don't think this game will live up to all the hype that fans seems to be building up. My guess is it'll be fluff and eye candy.

Please let me be wrong.

The Software Etc. near my office had it in at lunch. I'm not really interested in it and the guy that works there confirmed my lack of interest.

BTW, the back of the box lists NUDITY (upper case and all). Sales are about to skyrocket.

Damn, missed it by a couple of hours. Oh well, here's my post from my aborted thread.

The One and Only DOA:XVB Thread

I got my copy during lunch and played for about 20 minutes. The graphics are incredible, but that's a given. I like the music but hopefully I'll be able to add my own tracks.

The Exhibition mode seems to play like Virtual Tennis, but on a smaller scale. Only 2 buttons, and as far as I can tell, only 1 camera view. Not as easy as I expected. It took me 20 minutes to finally score a point during a game.

The Zack's Island mode seems almost like an RPG. You have to ask if a girl wants to team up before you can play. And so far it's too close to real life. Everyone has said 'ummmm. sorry, no thanks'....even after I give them a gift. (Ayane even refused the gift....what an ice princess).

I think I'll like it. I just wish it had more camera angles cuz it's hard to see where you're at on the court. And the number of players seems small. Plus, this really should be on XBL.

D
and there definately is nudity in the game. at least in the opening scene. Christie strips down to her birthday suit and dives into the ocean. I'm not enough of a perv to do screencaps and freeze frame it, but I'm certain the shadows didn't cover everthing.

Been playing this for a little while....

The Volleyball ball portion plays like Virtual Tennis.

Theres tons of risque stuff here (nudity, the ability to zoom in directly on their breasts, etc). Im enjoying the casino right now.

So far, this game beats the pants off (literally) The Sims (a game I just returned because it didn't hold my interest). Good job Tecmo, you pervs.

so when people say it plays like vitual tennis, is that a good thing? that is, is the game any good?

i'd love to get a volleyball game, and frankly, the nudity actually turns me off of the game from the purity of the sport...

The best Volleyball game ever is Super Spike V'Ball for the 8-Bit Nintendo. That was a classic!!

Wow.....I have to say that I'm glad I bought another game while I was out picking this up today.

If i can read the manual and figure out how to widen the angle on the court it may be a bit better. It's very tough having to zoom back and forth from one side of the court to another. The fact that you only use a few buttons sounded good but I would or preferred to have each button be a different move.

Maybe some of these problems will be fixed in the options menu but I was in such a hurry to play and post my thought that I haven't really messed with it much.

So far I'm not that impressed with anything other than the graphics. Would of been nice if the girls spoke English but oh wel.

Is it just me, or does this game seem more like "Barbie's Vacation Simulation" more than anything else?

Yup. The volleyball aspect of the game is okay, the camera blows, but I can get used to it... but collecting trinkets is not my idea of fun.

I've heard that the volleyball aspect is only around 30% of the actual game. Is the other stuff any fun?

Gamespot gave it a 6.0 :

I'm so glad I waited for reviews. Looks like I can put my money toward PDO and wait for the price on this one to drop like a rock soon...

It's worth the 9.99 I spent on it.

I am getting better at volleyball so I guess that makes me enjoy the game a bit more. The casino is fun but man can I blow a ton of cash there fast. Time in the game sure seems to move fast. It's hard to see past the fluff when there is so darn much of it.

I think I need to try the other mode before I try and choke my partner with her thong.

Well Gamespot gave it a 6.0. I dont dont entirely listen to reviews, i take them into consideration but dont base my actions on others experiences. With that said, dont let it discourage you, ive played it and its pretty good. I havent gotten too far into it but i dont think a 6 is what ill give it.

Thats cool, thats how i got it. I traded in State of Emergency and Oni for it, and DOAXVB is better than both of those games put together!

Ign gave it a 9.2
Here is the score breakdown :

Presentation
Dead or Alive meets beach vacation theme is consistent throughout, but we would've like to have seen more of Zack Island. 8.0
Graphics
From head to toe, some of the best character models ever. Hardcore DOA fans and casual players alike will drink in the details of every girl and the moves they make. 10.0
Sound
Built-in soundtrack won't get you very far and the voice samples are quick to annoy. Surround sound separation is great but doesn't really add much to this type of game. 7.0
Gameplay
The volleyball engine is remarkable and the peripheral gambling, shopping and relationship management elements all serve to complement it. 9.0
Lasting Appeal
The single player game is only deep if you love collecting for collection's sake. Otherwise, the two player head to head matches are where it's at for DOAX. 8.0
OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 9.2

IGN has "webrights" on DOAX material. IGN shot down Tokyopia cause that site posted a hands-on preview before IGN did. IGN went apeshit and cried to Tecmo for "webrights." Bastards. They have a deal with Tecmo for exclusive media material. That's why you see the inflated score. Also, anyone remember the 9.5 score rule Rockstar set for magazines for GTA: VC? Don't believe reviewers. Believe the gamers for games based upon word of mouth.

From what I can see this game is getting great word of mouth, so I tend to lean toward the IGN review. I don't buy into the inflation conspiracy anymore than the Gamespot hates Xbox games conspiracy, sorry lamer.

it looks like the reader reviews at gamespot are decent (8ish). i guess i'll open it up and forget returning it.

i traded in MGS2/Superbustamove for the ps2 for this game and the salesguy was giving me a hard time about it... couldn't believe i was trading in such a great game like MetalGearSolid2.

btw, i called around lunch time and they had about 5 copies. by the time i got to the store after work, i got the last one.
