PSO Gets A Date
SEGA's hit action-RPG is finally coming to an Xbox near you.
Numerous retailers are reporting that Phantasy Star Online will be shipping for Xbox on February 25, 2003. While the specifics of the pricing scheme are still unknown, there will more than likely be a small monthly fee to pay along with the price of the game, as well as your yearly Xbox Live subscription. Also, although the game does include voice chat with the Communicator, the Japanese version of the game will also be shipping with a USB adapter for use with a keyboard. Whether this adapter will come packaged with the US version of the game is also unknown, but it seems like a likely bet. More as it develops.
PSO =

I hope this monthly fee isn't the start of a new trend.

Wasn't it expected from the start that there was gonna be a monthly fee for this when it was first announced.

They aren't new trends where MMORPG's are concerned. Console gamers going online are in for quite a shock with these mainstays from online PC gaming, I think.

Anyone know if it's worth getting for offline play?? I don't have broadband. I'll probably just do split screen play.

Not really, I'd skip it if you aren't going to play online.

I don't know about that. Sure the draw is the online play, but on the DC I would try to finish the game on single player just to open the various online modes (i.e., difficulty levels) so I can get better weapons and build up my character. Plus, I'm sure there are some items you can only get in the single-player mode.

The impetus is to do all of this to prepare your character for the online modes, but I did enjoy the single player mode. And don't forget it will have link mode and four player via split-screen.

I have been playing the multiplayer GC version for awhile with my friend. I also played the solo game on DC for a long time. Although not as fun as online I still find them worth every penny. One problem is the size of the screen for multiplayer coupled with the fact that you can't move the camera can lead to some very major camera problems. (Try fighting the dragon boss without being able to see the ground or how much damage you are doing.)

IMO still worth the 50 bucks
