The Getaway (PS2)

Anyone heard of impressions or reviews of this game? Looks pretty cool and has some good pre-buzz from the British gaming sites. IGN has a hands-on for insiders. Graphics look pretty slick.

read a little review on GameNow every once in a while. It's comparable to the GTA 3 and heard it's even worst in terms of violence. It's so bad that Australia will ban the game's release. However game play, story plot, graphic, GameNow said it's actually better than GTA 3. Personally I'm very interest in The Gateway. But that's pretty much all that I heard or read.....

I found this if anyone is interested. It shows the in-game graphics vs the actual locations in London. Pretty darn impressive. Looks like they nailed down some spiffy texture streaming routines for their game engine.

The official game site has some of the characters names etc. Looks gritty and a lot more serious than GTA3 or Vice City.

They've been hyping this game almost as long as the actual PS2 unit has been out to buy.

Another link with in game footage versus the real world location. Hopefully the voice acting will be half as good as the graphics.

Yep, long development time and many quietly pushed back release dates.

IGN says the lack of a GUI is infuriating, you use only the turn signals of the car to know where you should go, which is not correct or ineffeciant half the time. Also you show damage by limping and bleeding, no health meter. When you need to heal you just lean against a wall and wait where you can still be attacked even if you killed all the bad guys in that area already. The AI for the partner is supposed to be annoying as she will stop and fight it to the dealth with cops when you want her to get back in the car forcing you to restart. Camera problems as well.

However, gameplay problems aside, it IS supposed to have a fantastic story if you can stand to get through the bad parts. Also the modeling of london is supposed to be phenominal, but there isn't an in game map so you may need to check an atlas.

Hope this help anyone thinkning about it, an great game with some serious gameplay issues.

The damage thing from what I heard is supposed to be like that to make the game more realistic.
