I have 2 friends here n campus that have had their chipped xboxes on live since day one. They have yet to have any problems. Does anyone else here have a modded xbox online?

The XBox is the only console I've considered "modding". The uses for a modded XBox are almost limitless. I have no interest in using a modded XBox to play "backups" or to cheat during online games. I would like to be able to browse my XBox's hard drive over the network and retrieve game saves to see what sort of hacking can be done with them. I'd also be able to transfer my own (properly name) music collection over the network to the XBox without having to convert each CD one at a time with the XBox.

I have never had the urge to mod a system before, but you guys are really selling me with turning it into a classic gaming system. Still money is short right now, and if I was going to do that, it would be with a spare Xbox, and not my main system. I wouldn't do any "backups" or cheating though.

In order to transfer music ... it's still a bit of a problem. The Xbox uses a custom codec which is widely available for the PC, but there's no utility to generate the proper nomenclature for the music files and add them to the album directory on the Xbox. It's definately coming, just not here yet. There's already a utility to share game saves and hack them though.

It's mighty great as a classic gaming system.

I did the same, and the only other console I ever owned was a Sega Master System.

I'm not too worried about cheaters on Xbox Live. It's too easy for MS to tell when you are connected to them, they could easily take action and go as far as banning your account. My modded Xbox got banned from Live on launch day. After Microsoft finally explained that's what they were doing I went ahead and bought a second Xbox and moved my Live account to it. The only problem with this so far is I've spent much more time playing old games on the modded box than anything on Live. But online play and surround sound have me totally sold on the Xbox's future, if only I had an HDTV.

For someone who was DYING for an Atari 2600 and Chuck E Cheese tokens when they were 8 years old, this is the ultimate toy! I stuck an 80 gig hard drive in there and have nearly every game system I ever wanted as a kid in one box. Now I just need to get my X-arcade stick

actually....i read that banning xboxes and maintaining a database of banned serials costs too much money/resources so MS isnt doing it anymore, i have also heard that they have found a way to "reset" xbox serial therefore allowing you to join up on Live again with the mod removed.

BTW
just last night i burned over 2000 roms on a dvdr with the snes emulator....wow...brought back so many memories....final fight, earthworm gym, donkey kong.........
