My Experience with Halo
*Now before we get started i just wanna say that this my opinion soley and i am not bashing this game by any means, just stating my thoughts on the experience i had with it and would to like hear some of your thoughts as well.
I just got an X-Box recently and was thinking of what game to buy to start my X-Box experience. I went with Halo becuase it has been regarded as the best game for the Box and a great game overall. Dont get me wrong, i didnt buy it just for the hype, i was intrigued by the set up, i was very much interested in wasting some alien scum, and ive never really had a great time playing First Person Shooters and Halo looked like it would give me one. So, i just finished the game, i got it last Friday, so it didnt even take me a week. Anyways, although it was very enjoyable, but i gotta say im dissapointed. I dont see how this game earned the high praise that it did. I mean i found it good, but not great and far from being a masterpiece. For one, it felt extremely repetitive at times. Levels like The Library and 343 Gulity Spark were a chore. And while i found the story interesting and engaging i felt the game needed better cutscenes showing more of the story rather than have Cortana explaing it to you during play and mission breifs. The graphics all in all were great though, looking up to see the sky and Halo's ring was awesome, but the games people models were somewhat lame. Watching Keyes talk was laughable. Lastly, the ending was unsatisfying and way too short. Altough games pretty much dissapoint with thier endings, i was hoping Halo was gonna make my experience with it better by watching something really unbelievable at the end, but it didnt.
Its a good game no doubt and i a had a nice time playing it, but i just dont understand why people saw it as greatness. Do any of you here feel like i do or dissagree? Well, ill be getting Splinter Cell this week, that one looks like a beauty, cant wait!

You are going to find a lot of people that will agree with you and a lot of people that don't.
A lot of people are going to reply telling you how they love it and that you need to play more multiplayer, or to play it on a harder mode etc. But hey, maybe not now that I wrote this, check every other Halo thread dealing with a gamer who didn't like it to see what I'm talking about.
I hope you can find some games you really love for your Xbox.

I agree with you. It was so-so.
For your FPS fix check out TimeSplitters 2. Its got more weapons, more kinds of bad guys, more multiplayer options (with bots!), Mapbuilder/storybuilder, and it gets WAY HARD. The controls are like goldeneye/perfect dark so that may or may not be for you.

thegame370: I pretty much agree with what you said. I can't complain about the story-telling though as it was better than in most FPS.
TS2 is definitely a good game but there's something missing that makes the game less than satisfying. The multiplayer is pretty sweet though.
For your FPS fix check out TimeSplitters 2.

Halo has been out for a year. No game can possibly live up to all the hype and praise that has been lavished on Halo. I still think it is the best Xbox game to date. I still play it at least 2-3 times a week. I usually get sick of games after about 3 or 4 months but the multiplayer in Halo keeps me coming back for more.

The greatness of Halo is simply due to gameplay IMO. I mean, I actually love that the games plot was played out IN the missions instead of just getting movies in between each mission but that really isn't that important to me. Halo introduced vehicles and has some of the best (coolest) AI help of any game. Don't know any other FPS games that let you hop in a jeep or tank and then your buddies man the guns. One other thing, how many console FPS games let you play through in co op mode?
In my opinion
Graphics - 10
Gameplay - 10
presentation- 9 (love it or hate it but you can often actually look around during the cut scenes which makes you feel there)
Lasting power -10 If you play this online or even split screen you will find that the fun is endless. The game just plays too good with the sniper rifle and other weapons being very effective.
One thing I'll give you is that there are some repetitive areas and enemies. I certainly hope to see a wider variety of enemies the next go around. I still play Halo on XBC today and love it, although LIVE just took a HUGE chunk out of that time.

Halo is just a beautifully made game. I mean when you look at it - there are very few games that just feel all out "professional" as Halo did. True Quality. and Very immersive (though still not quite perfect.)
That being said - I didn't really enjoy single player all that much - grab a friend and play co-op, it never gets old
And as for the comment on TS2... single player in that game got old....painfully fast. And Multiplayer disappointed me largely.
But oooo well, each their own

I realize that not everyone likes every game.
If you don't like Halo then that's perfectly ok. Not everyone likes a certain genre of games as I could care less for sports titles like football or baseball and skateboarding titles. As many times that I've tried them out with friends, nothing seemed to satisfy me as a good shooter or a good racing game.
I've played Halo a multitude of times and never seem to get tired of it whether it's single or co-op. I feel that the lack of cut-scenes only adds to my enjoyment. I don't mind a few cut-scenes in a game but some games just have too many of them and I feel that those games were the product of lazyness on the developers part.
My friends that come over usually say "Let's play some Halo" at one time or another during there visit.
The repetivness of some levels in Halo kinda bothered me a little until I realized that there are very few games that I've played that I didn't have to return to the same levels to acomplish something different. Like going back through the levels in Halo to destroy the reactors even though they are not the same levels.
Going back through some levels gave a certain amount of realism. I mean if I go to the mall and walk through the last store in the mall, I don't expect to go to the Exit doors of that store and find my car magically waiting on me. I know that I have to go all the way back through the mall to get back to my car. I know that analogy sounds silly, but that's the best example I could think of.
I have never played a game that the huge inner levels loaded as fast as Halo does. that alone makes this game very enjoyable.
I think Bungie will do an even better job with Halo2. Bungie seems to care what gamers think and try to do there best to give them the best game for there money.

I think you'll find the 1 player game quite long if you play on one of the higher difficulty levels, legendary or heroic. I was never able to beat legendary.. Then play it coop with a friend for more fun.
The repetitive architecture is a problem that many have raised with the game but I think the outdoor areas more than make up for it.
I also enjoyed not having to watch huge cut scenes everytime something happened, I'd rather have the story furthered in the game engine itself as much as possible.

B4 i got an xbox i played it on my boys box and was totally immersed in it, i have to agree... even though the graphics/sound/AI are top notch what makes this game is the gameplay...so perfect...
then i got to play it on my own xbox, man......i was blown away even more, when the marine in charge tells u to scout an area on your own and start picking off the enemy one by one on your own b4 they come in and back you up is just straight up hot because it outlines the way youre supposed to play the future areas....
about the repetitive feel of the levels- this game was a bit rushed to be out in time for the launch, so they were forced to have you infiltrate/exfiltrate certain areas to make it seem longer.... but....HALO 2 should be different, and from what ive been hearing about H2 ..MY GOD........i cant WAIT!!!!

I appreciate your responses, they are well written and mannered. I value when people can talk about games and thier postive and negative opinions without getting into heated arguements and childish remarks. Not to name drop but i sometimes visit this site called Gamefaqs.com and the replys that take place there are totally immature and sometimes very unappropiate. Anyways, back on subject, all of you made very good points. I have yet to play the game coopertavely or any of the multi-player modes. So today i bought me another controller so i can get in on the fun with some friends and such. Ill tell you one thing though, althought i was a bit dissapointed with Halo so far, that hasn't turned me off on investing in Halo 2. I have the recent Official X-Box Magazine issue that has the trailer for H2 on the demo disc and wow, it looks amazing. I also read up on it in Game Informer and it looks like its going to improve in almost everyway. On a side note, i got to play Metroid Prime today at Circuit City and let me just say, "Holy Sh#t!" From what i played it was beautiful. Its funny how in some ways you always miss out. I have a PS2 and bought an X-Box so i can enjoy other games im interested in that the PS2 doesnt offer, now Mertroid Prime makes me wanna have a GC. I cant now though, i got bills to pay.
