Does XBOX live work overseas?

I have a US XBOX but I'm in Japan. I was wondering if I bought XBOX live, if I could play with everyone else? Also, I guess this leads into the question, can US XBOX livers game with Japanese ones? European ones? Versions of games are different so I'm not too sure.

If you have a cable/DSL internet connection that's compatible with what XBOX Live supports, along with a US XBOX + US software, then theoretically the answer is yes.

I would think yes, as long as there is a good ping rate.

I'm also really, really hoping it will work!! with a decent ping that is... though in all reality, I'll be chiming in at 200+ while all others in there will be at like 50 or less.... poor me....

You'll still be better off than the people in the US connecting with 56k...

it also depends on where you go, cause in USA, we run on NTSC while most other countries in the world, (besides USA and Canada) run on PAL.

You may have to get a converter, so that your XBOX itself will work in the different region, but besides that, the rest of the equipment should work.

Japan is using NTSC sytem so it has no problems with X-box live.I guess with 100 mb/s fiber optic conections is an overkill for me so I am going to upgrade to 12 mb/s ADSL.
I suggest you call the X-box support team in Japan and ask for their advice first. As I have once read in the Official X-box magazine, the US X-box live players can compete with the Japanese counterparts!
