My 1st ever console... crapped out after 5 days! Got a new one. So do these things tend to break a lot? Was I just unlucky? Did your's crap out too? How long after you got it?

I was playing Halo in co-op mode with a friend last Friday evening. Console crapped out at 8:35 PM. Mad dash to get to Future Shop before the store closed at 9:00 Store guy tested it, the game woudn't even come out of the tray. Got a replacement Xbox and new Halo. Were back home and playing at 9:30

All consoles can break. I don't think the Xbox is any worse than the PS2 in this department so I wouldn't worry about it. Both have pretty low failure rates overall.

Nope, had only played it for a couple of hours. Probably was just unlucky and got a "lemon". Didn't mean to scare people off.

No problems here from a purchase in FEB. . I even took the thing apart and installed the Enigmah chip even though I really have not used the MOD for anything yet.

Had mine since Jan. Mine hasn't crapped out but I get the occasional Error 21 and occasional dirty disc error. Mines gonna be sent off this week as MS agreed to replace the Thomson (RCA) dvd drive for the new Philips one for $40.

No problems yet, though I have had some dirty disc errors and game freezing from time to time -- Morrowind is a real culprit sometimes -- gotta clear up the cache occasionally, and don't let your individual game save files get larger than 200 units if you can help it.

With the Live beta, I've got the message a couple times that shows up saying you need to take in your box to get serviced -- says that in 3 or 4 different languages. Got a new beta disk and I haven't seen it again. Either way, no worries since I bought the extended warranty.

Is this a thread about console preference? I didn't think so.

But then again, I like to read thread titles.

I had put a thread out about this very topic a week or so ago. And l had to return my xbox 3 times before getting one that worked. Hopefully nothing happens in the next 85 days. I probably will dish out the $50 bucks to get the extended warranty.

I got the blue screen of death the other night. JK

In all seriousness, I was playing some Multi-player TS2 last night with some buddies, and two of them decided to switch screens(which corner they were in), so they unplugged the two controllers and switched them. The Xbox did not like that at all. It kept saying memory card was removed, cannot save. Then eventually it started saying the XBox hard drive was removed, cannot save. How funny/weird is that? Needless to say, it was half right, it wouldn't save. Anyone else seen this? We reset and it seems to be fine now.

I've had mine for a year and I took it apart a couple of times and it still works fine. The only problem I've had have been certain discs. Part of the copy protection was making sure the drive is very finnicky about booting a disc. Probably half of the magazine demo discs I have don't like to boot on the first try. Lots of people have problems with the Live demo of NFL Fever, including me. I don't even bother trying to play it anymore. All the games I bought work flawlessly.
