ANyone in NJ confirm this? If so, which store?

Electronics Boutique (deals may vary by location)

Buy the bundle and receive one of the following free: Fusion Frenzy, Project Gotham Racing, or RalliSport Challenge.

Buy the bundle and one of eight games (halo, blinx, rallisport, amped, etc) and receive a $30 rebate.

From: Mayberry, NC. Really, it is
Here's the.pdf on the DVD playback remote rebate. States required UPC #'s and everything, expires 11/02/02 -

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/rebat...DVD_rebate.pdf

Here's a $20 rebate (actually a $20 store coupon sent by email, but you'd spend it on games anyway ) -

Rebate Coupon

Receive a $20 mail-in rebate coupon
when you purchase all of the following items:
1. A Microsoft Xbox
2. A Microsoft Xbox DVD Playback Kit
3. Any Xbox game
4. One of any of the following games:
Halo (209483)
Blinx (224066)
NFL Fever 2003 (222871)
Quantum Red Shift (223008)

Offer valid October 4, 2002, to November 6, 2002.

link to printable form -

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/rebates/1106-Xbox.asp

So, combine the offers and do the math :

$199.99 XBox combo (Sega GT, JSRF & S controller) +
$29.99 remote +
$29.99 game (Project Gotham) +
$49.99 (Halo)
---------------------------
$309.96 -
$30 remote rebate (if bundle has eligble UPC#) -
$20 EB rebate
---------------------------
$259.96 for an XBox, remote & 4 games from ebgames.com

In-store only - trade in your old Playstation or N64 and 10 (was/may still be 15) games for $100 credit, and it's $159.96. May be even better if the stores are offering deals that are better than what's posted on their site.

well, i just went to 2 other ebgames stores. when i called them this morning, they denied this deal. but, tonight, both stores confirmed this deal. one manager said they should be getting the new promo forms.

these stores are in the King of Prussia Mall (both parts... 3 stores).

the thing that annoyed me a little was i didn't even check Halo when he put it in the bag. when i looked at it today, it was opened, beat up, disc is all dirty, scratched... needless to say, i went back to get a new copy.

another funny thing is that 1 store is sort of separate and they both sort of knocked the other stores down... "oh, those guys don't know what's going on." :shrugs:

Are you sure combining those two rebates works? Looks like both forms require you to send in the original UPC from the console box.

Is it a good idea to get a service plan from EB B&M? How much does one cost and how long does it last?

Buy wouldn't apply the $15 of $200 to my $199.99 xbox...
I added a s-video xbox cable for $6.99 and my total was $191 shipped... Not too bad considering I can't find an ebworld that has the 3rd free game and I'd have to pay 6% tax on it too.

Yeah, the first time I called I got the affirmative, the second the denial. I would say it's unlikely it's a go.

ok, aghama, i just spoke to Ed at the rebate center. he has confirmed that the 2 deals are not concurrent. so the dvd thing is no good. - he put me on hold for a few minutes, spoke w/ a higher up and then told me.

so, DVD rebate NOT w/ the Xbox LIMITED...

who wants to start a letter writing campaign!!!

I can understand their reasoning. They're already giving away 2 free games, and taking a big loss on each console sold, so it's understandable that they're reluctant to honor the free dvd kit deal with the bundle.

It sucks for those that need the X-box as a DVD player, but I don't imagine that's a crucial selling point, at least for member of this site who likely already own a DVD player or two.

I don't think anyone is surprised, it would just be nice if they had gotten their story straight.

Yeah, they definitely should have made it clear in the promotion that the DVD rebate wouldn't work with the bundle. It would have avoided confusion and angering customers who thought they could get both.

So it looks like Costco has the best deal with 2 s controllers, 2 games (JSFR, Sega GT) and the DVD kit for $240?

Is that correct, or is the Target deal w/ a free controller and 10% off a better deal?

B.

I think the Target deal might be BS.

As for the Costco deal, the same package from buy.com would cost you $245...but depending on your sales tax, this could actually be ~$10 cheaper than from Costco. This is assuming you even want the DVD kit.

I think the Costco deal is a little better. You're getting the normal bundle deal (it's $185 at Buy.com for example) plus one more S-controller ($30) and the DVD kit ($30) equaling $245+tax. So you're getting $5 off or so, I guess.

If the DVD kit is important to you, then you go with Costco...if it isn't, Target or Buy.com should do just fine.

The free controller at Target is almost guaranteed to be crap though...

HEADS UP GUYS!!! If you already have a DVD player, you can just import a region 2 Dongle and make your Xbox a region 2 player. It converts PAL->NTSC. I'm just thinking a lot of you already have DVD players, but this would make the Xbox a very useful DVD player.

Of course. But I would guess the Xbox is better than that Malata. Do you notice layer changes when you watch movies with it?

The Malata lets you do X-Y scaling, which is pretty huge. This ain't no Apex.

But anyway, I was just correcting you when you said "If you (sic) already have a DVD player"

Oh ok. So the Xbox doesn't do that X-Y thingy?

Wait, I did mean if you already have! Why? Because that way you can get your region 1 fix from the DVD player you already have and not have to worry about the remote deal. If you get the US remote, you can never get region 2. Then you'll have a region 1 player and a region 2 player.

I was the one that posted the bit about the Target deal. I simply read it from another thread that was posted by a "target employee" . Evidently it was BS. At least at this time. Maybe in a week or so (he said he had seen a future Target add for this wekk or next) we'll know differently. But for now, it looks like a hoax...

I didn't bother reading all this, so it may have been mentioned...Costco has the deal with the s-controller and the dvd remote for $239
