Anyone keep their DOOM CDs(disks?)

The pics from this are incredible!
Only problem is you need the original WAD files. Funny how this is supposedly the most pirated piece of software ever made, yet I can't find the files I need......

Doom was shareware... That sucks people pirated the hell out of it. I never bought the full version but did enjoy the shareware version.

Oh the good old days when I waited hours and hours for my friend to finish sending me the full version of Doom over a 9600 baud modem . That first coop game had me hooked, until I got the plasma gun, killed him, and camped at the respawn point . I did end up buying them all, then when I bought Quake and they were all on there (with a little decryption), I put the floppies in storage.

One of my favorite games to play was the Aliens total conversion for Doom. The only problem is that there were two different ones, and I can only find one of them any more .

Yeah, I own all the DOOM games and some level editors and thousands of WADs. I remember finding jDoom a few years ago - definitely worth playing through the games again for it.
I can't wait to relive all those moments the first time I played DOOM in the dark, in DOOM III.....

I know where my copies of Doom/Doom2 are... in a box, packed away, under everything in the attic. I won't get to try this until I move... i'm looking at two years here!

I was always a hexen fan. Or was it heretic? Anyways, it was the medival co-op game where each character class had 4 weapons......

Anyone know what was the first FPS where you had to aim vertically as well as horizontally? I remember playing duke nekum with a joystick..... Can't do that anymore

I remember in the day how I pirated the hell out of this game. I've since made up for my sins by buying the windows 9x optimized version that came out last year.

You know what - this game STILL rocks.

I remember getting kinda dizzy playing Wolfenstein 3D way back in the day. By the time Doom came around I was used to the 3D environment.

Not sure if it was the first, but I think Doom II had it. I don't remeber it having mouse look, though. I think it was mapped to the End and Home keys.

IIRC, the first game where you *had* to aim vertically was Quake. All of the pseudo-3D games that allowed you to look up and down were pulling the wool over your eyes, your projectiles would auto-aim vertically no matter what.

Doom II definitely lets you looks up and down. I'm pretty sure you actually have to aim up and down if you turn autoaim off. Autoaim was on by default though.

I don't recall DOOM II being the one with aim up and down, usually you just had to shoot and if the monster is on a different level higher then you it would automaticlly go on there access.

I agree with agahma on this one. Quake would be the first one really to make you look up and down to aim at that access. all the others did the auto-aim for you anyways.

I played through the first 10 or so Doom II levels since last night. There is aiming up and down and you have to actually move up and down unless you have autoaim turned on (which is turned on by default, so turn it off you wussies ).

I remember hunting for the Quake CD.... spent my $5 and then played the game. I ended up listening to the tunes more than playing the game mind you.

I remember Heretic being the first with "look up and down" capabilities. Duke Nukem' 3D also had this function, and I believe Rise of the Triad did as well. I don't remember Doom II having this functionality, the original Doom did not, and Doom II was derived from the original Doom engine.

Also, remember that Duken Nukem 3D was the first that allowed true multi-level platforms. Before this, it was impossible to design something that could be walked over as well as under.

DAMN! Great find... but I just spent over an hour going through boxes of old stuff... in search of my doom 2 disks.

Not there... maybe it wasn't an hour, maybe I only managed to look in one box... maybe I got too lazy to move the stacks of boxes and furniture out of the way... maybe, maybe...

juiio - Were you playing the original Doom II, or one of the many updated versions?

einTier - If you had ever screwed with the DN3D level editor, you would know that was not the case. You could not walk over/under the same locations.

You could make catwalks with the Duke Nukem 3d Level editor. I don't think it was a true over/under floor but ...more like a streched sprite that you could walk on.

I was playing the original Doom II using jDoom. I think I remember it from the original also though. I can't verify though because I couldn't get the original to run on this machine.
