Mike AA, I agree with you. I try to play games for the first time with as little premade opinions as possible. It's Metroid, so I AM excited to play it, but I'll reserve final opinions until I play it. Alas, I can't help look at the screens and movies though.
The convex appearance of the visor is very interesting. I wonder if it will warp the images at all, like some sunglasses do. That would be a neat effect.
One of the things I am most interested in is the music. The original Metroid music was very memorable, and the updates for the Smash Brothers games were terrific. I wonder if they will use the original themes. Does anybody know who composed the music for Metroid?

I try to avoid most hype as some people have stated, but I do check in on previews and watch some videos, but I never try to get overexcited about a game. I seem to enjoy games more the less I am waiting for them. Nevertheless I love Metroid and will probably purchase this on release day no matter what.

I know that graphics alone wont do it for games anymore (actually it never does), but this game is a visual master piece. A testament to the power the GC has. The controls are odd at first but adaptable. Im not sure which mag said it but (maybe it was GI) they said they were unhappy with the controls and wrote off Metroid Prime as "just another franchiise ruined by a change in formula". I dont see how, I mean I played the demo and thought it rocked. And if the demo is only a taste of what to expect then I say bring it on
. Well anyways...the visor feature is pretty slick. You scan doors before blasting them open, sort of like a key. Im not sure how the GBA game works with the GC version, but Im sure it will be explained in due time. One damn cool aspect for the intro of the game is.....
I think I was only one in the Nintendo booth who heard it and cheered.
yeah Im a dork.

Star Fox Adventures
Kingdom Hearts
Super Monkey Ball 2
Tekken 4
Metroid Prime
Metroid Fusion
Shinobi
Rygar
Contra: Shattered Soldiers
Rayman 3
Sly Cooper
Rachet and Clank
and probably a few more I'm forgetting.
The first four I've held off on in favor of Mario Sunshine and Castlevania: HOD.
I'll probably only be able to make time (and money) for 3 or 4 of these games.
And that's not counting the backlog of PS2 games like MGS2 and Devil May Cry that I still want to pick up.Oh well, I guess it's better to have too many good games, than not enough. I'm considering holding off on buying any of the next gen systems right at launch, and catching up on all the PS2 and GCN games I missed as they should be dirt cheap by then.

However, the music in Super Metroid was co-composed by Kenji Yamamoto and Minako Hamano. If i recall correctly the only music from the first game they used in the sequel was the intro melody when you start. Still the game had some awesome tunes. The sites are reporting that Kenji Yamamoto is indeed returning to do the music for Metroid Prime. From the movies I have watched of the game the music seems to be very atomospheric and moody, but its hard to tell just from a small 1 minute montage clip. But we won't have to wait much longer to find out
.Zero, I also cheered when that happened, it was so cool i actually yelled out in my house "hell yeah!!" and got a lot of funny looks from people around me lol.

Some new information on the Metroid Prime storyline has been revealed from Gamecube preview DVD being given out at the Cube Clubs. Many were wondering where the MP storyline fits in with the rest of the series.
Also check out what the guy who runs the best Metroid fansite on the net (The Metroid Database) has done in honor of the series:

Nice tattoo!

PlanetGamecube just posted a whole bunch of new exciting Metroid info. They are even saying that the original Metroid will be included as a hiddin goodie, and will have a "save" option so you don't have to use those stupid passwords! Hot dog!

Well I just got a part-time job, so now I'll have some money for all these games.
But with the job on top of grad school, I have even less time than I currently do to play games.
Dammit, it's just a no-win situations.

Never really played Metroid before but now I'm starting to get excited. I love the idea of including older versions with the latest game, I wish more series would do it. Shenmue did it well also (Space Harrier etc..).

I must say, that commercial got me excited to run out and pick it up, and previously was on the fence. I'm still hoping to check it out at the cube party when it comes up this way early Nov.

Will not click on the link, will not click on the link..willl.....ahh can't resist.
That was frickin awesome!! I watched it like 3 times
. That scene where they show Samus walking around the corner and they did a quick pan around her rocked even though hit won't be in the game (maybe?). I like how they zoom in on Samus and then you can see inside the visor what she is seeing, which is the actual gameplay, very cool! Argh now you see what you have done, i'm getting pumped up for this game and I said i was gonna try to avoid hyping the game......settle down........ok i'm better now

I work in retail so my time always goes bye bye during this time of the year. Damn holidays.
And then I have to save up for a one month vacation in January and a month of rent in advance since I'm moving to another apartment at the end of the year.Add that to these great games coming out soon. Oh the agony. I think I'll just get Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion, and the GBA to GC link cable. Hope that I get Unreal Championship and DOA volleyball for christmas, and pass on Res. Evil 0 until sometime early next year. Oh jeez, and add the dvds coming out before the end of this year too.

Hmm, did anyone post the control scheme yet? I noticed someone concerned about the controls on the first page of the thread. I had a chance to play the demo.. Here's the controls:
L trigger is to lock on targets
R trigger is to manual aim
Left analog stick is to move forward, back, turn left and right
Right analog is to switch weapons
D pad is to switch visor modes
B is to jump
A is to use your arm cannon
Y is to shoot missles
X is to morph into ball
Z... not sure
