Has anyone played the Freedom Force demo?

This is supposed to be a Super Hero based RPG. It looks good, but looks only go so far.

Its a cool demo. I am not a big fan of this game, but everyone has been raving about it. Some reviewers are calling it the best game in years. I think that it an overstatment, but it is supposed to be damn good.

I just finished the demo. It's a bit difficult trying to control 4 guys at once, but I enjoyed it.

I'd wait till it goes on sale if you are interested in this type of game.

Fun game, looks promising.

But is anyone else experiencing massive stability problems? The game crashes every time I try to start the second mission.

Edit: Never mind, it was just a problem with my NVIDIA video drivers. The game itself runs flawlessly. I can't decide whether I should pick this up or the upcoming Dungeon Siege...

I picked this game up and absolutely love it. I would highly recommend checking it out if you like comic book heroes.

I played it at E3 last year and enjoyed it. It was still early in the development cycle but it showed a ton of promise.

I am seriously considering getting this.

I totally enjoyed the first part of the demo, but hated the multiplayer part since I'm not a big RTS fan. Great, corny voice acting and the graphics are spot on.

I've been playing the full version of the game since it came out, and I really enjoy it. Controlling two or more party members can get tricky at times, but thankfully clicking the right mouse button or hitting the space bar pauses the action so you can issue orders to your guys. The voice acting is a hoot...it's so cheesy and over the top, but totally appropriate for this type of game.

The only difficulty I'm having is finding the time to play this and Jedi Knight II.

Just got done playing the demo... pretty fun. Even the descriptions of the items you can interact with in the landscape are funny, in this overly serious way! Next week, Best Buy will be selling it for $35... coupled w/ the 20% off coupon in this month's PC Gamer, it'll be the perfect time to pick it up.

Freedom Force question

Awesome game. I highly recommend it. Here's my question, though:

To make custom skins for the heroes, you need Photoshop. As far as I can tell, Photoshop runs about $600. Now, I'd love to be able to make my own skins, but not for six hundred bucks. Does anyone know if there is

(a) a stripped down Photoshop available for home use
(b) a shareware or inexpensive Photoshop equivalent
(c) some other way of being able to make custom skins without buying a $600 graphic tool.

One thing I want to make clear -- I am NOT interested in a wares or pirated version of Photoshop.

Can anyone help me?

Do you actually need the program Photoshop, or just some sort of good image editing program?

Good question. All the skinning sites I've poked around on have talked about Photoshop, but I can't imagine it would be necessary to use that particular image editing program. I'm just an image editing newbie (I've used MS Paint, but that's about it), so I don't know what's out there.

Thanks, Spiff. I'll try that.

Photoshop Essentials is a "lite" version of Photoshop and easier to learn. Usually $99 and sometimes there are rebates.

I'd recommend Paint Shop Pro (~$70) because it is more of a general purpose paint program while Photoshop's strength has always been manipulating photos.

Picked up the full version yesterday... it's great. Your enjoyment will be multiplied if you were a comic buff like me, but if not, it's still a very solid game. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go beat up some supervillians.

I've played through it twice so far, and I still love it. For those who are interested, it's part of a trilogy. The first game is set in the Cold War 60's. The second will mimic the characters and storylines from the 70's, and the last one will portray the darker 80's and 90's.

From the developer's FAQ: http://www.irrationalgames.com/ff/FF...tm#_Toc5529792
Do you have any plans for a sequel?
Yes indeed, the game story is designed as a trilogy. The second game will deal with the 70s & 80s, while the third game will deal with today's grittier heroes. An expansion pack isn’t out of the question either.
There are TONS of skins out there, and you can design your own characters. Just about every character and power possible can be made. Here are two sites with skins and other goodies:

Yeah, I figured you'd like this game. There's an image in PC Gamer that you'd probably like... a character with a Captain Marvel skin beating the hell out of Bullet with an up knockback punch.

My parents moved recently, and they called me up: "We have two long boxes of your comic books here... do you want us to throw them out?" " NO! Are you crazy?!" I don't collect or anything anymore... but I try to keep up with Spawn when I see a copy. Everything that happened in the 90's... Superman dying (but not really!), the crappy Executioner's Song crossover madness in the Marvel X-titles... sort of turned me off from collecting those. Plus the cost didn't exactly go down, either. Ah, well, it was fun while it lasted.

Thanks for all the links! Any idea how multiplayer is?

I don't know. I've been toying with the idea of trying it, but the closest I've come is setting up a 1 player "multiplayer" game to test my characters out in. I don't tend to get along well with the typical on-line crowd. They tend to be a little spastic for my tastes.
