Spent some time designing powers for some of the skins I found... I plan to put together a Fantastic Four team, I think. The only question is, how to duplicate Mr. Fantastic's stretching powers? Maybe just hook him up with all sorts of techno gear, since he was the smart one?

And I've come to the realization that Man-Bot, bless his iron-encased heart, is just too dang slow! Especially when he's on a squad with Bullet, Minuteman, and a flying El Diablo. By the time he shows up, the fight is over! Although his Disruption power is pretty handy... blows up inanimate objects at a distance. I used it to finish off
Spoiler:
Mr. Mechanical's generator room in about thirty seconds
. Putting Iron Man or War Machine in his place would kick some serious butt... Man-Bot + speed + flight would be great.

You can always buy the Flier trait for him. That helps a little bit, since flying is slightly faster.

Spoiler:
I wouldn't become too attached to him anyway. Taking him on missions means those character points are wasted later on, since he gets kidnapped near the end of the game.

Dangit. I shouldn't have read the spoiler. I didn't know you could just buy any trait for characters... I thought you could only buy the traits it let you buy. I'd love to hook up Man-Bot with flight.

Did more work on my FF team... too bad that you can't use invisibility powers in multiplayer! Ugh. So that leaves Invisible Woman S.O.L., basically.

It's on their page with the attributes. For example, Minuteman starts with Jumper and Disciplined. But he can also earn Heroic and Extra Heroic. I think Man-Bot's third attribute is Flier.

If you're sticking with the original characters, pump up Man O War. He's probably the best of the lot.

That does suck about Invisible Girl. You could always add in She-Hulk if you wanted to, or you could just choose to portray Invisible Girl's force field powers somehow.

Yep, I played up Invisible Female's force field powers... used them as active and passive defenses for her, and a stasis attack. Something else, too, I'm pretty sure. Wasn't SpiderMan a member of FF for a little while?

I've stuck with all the game-provided player characters... I've stuck with El Diablo, Mentor, Bullet, Man-Bot, and Minuteman. I haven't even recruited

Spider Man, Hulk, Ghost Rider, and Wolverine were part of the "new" FF for a few issues. There have been several substitute members of the original FF: She-Hulk, Medusa (the Inhuman), Ms. Marvel, Power Man (Luke Cage), Ant-Man, and Crystal (another Inhuman... Quicksilver's ex-wife).

I found Eve to be next to useless. The ONLY plus is that she does piercing damage, but that doesn't make up for her frailty.

It's not just you. The problem is that Minuteman does pretty much only crushing damage, and lots of the later enemies are more resistant to that (
Spoiler:
the robots are rated as "highly resistant" to crushing, which means attacks only do 1/4 of their normal damage.
). The best bet with Minuteman my first go around was to buy the "Heroic" and "Extra Heroic" attributes, so he could heal two more times during the mission. I didn't even bother using him when I didn't have to my second go around. It was more fun to use The Flash and Bullet as really quick nuisances to pester the enemies until my Hulk could get to them or I could zap them with Iron Man.

Oh, sweet, so the second go around, you imported Marvel/DC characters? Neat. I just got a Spidey skin... I need to work on putting together appropriate powers for everyone.

Finally got xp installed and my new video card running so i finally got to play this game and am having an absolute blast. I made a Hellboy character with a model i got but unfortunately i made him way too slow to really play.... will correct that next time around. So far though I dig leveling up Sea Urchin... her comments crack me up and i love the little acidic bubbles she shoots.

Finally, someone else is playing this game! (Not that I don't dig CaptainMarvel.)

Sea Urchin? Really? I haven't even recruited her. Next game, I guess. Something that didn't occur to me just now is that I'm wasting possible points by not recruiting people as soon as possible, since everyone gets XP even if they don't go on a mission. The only people I recruited were Man O War and Bullet.

Unrelated... do any of the players provided by the game have cold or lightning powers? Maybe some of the players I didn't recruit have them.

CapMarvel, I found ManBot's Flier power... I hadn't bought the power before that one, so I didn't even know it was there.

I'm pretty sure Blackbird has at least one cold beam attack - i haven't recruited her but when i checked her out to decide between her and Sea Urchin i seem to remember the details on one of her attacks being an ice beam that could pierce through objects.

After reading all the good reviews in this post I downloaded the demo. Problem is I can't see the characters, only the circle around the superhero. If I move into the street I can see him and the bad guys but if I am on the grass, in a building etc I can't see anyone! If I move from the street onto the grass it looks as if the game makes him walk UNDER the grass...I tried changing all the graphic settings in many different configurations but no luck. Anyone else have this problem? BTW I have a VooDoo 3500 video card.

Man O War has "Electric Arc," "Storm Bolt," and "Ball Lightning." Bullet also has "Electrify" as a special (it sends a burst of energy out around him). I don't know of any with cold power. Weird.

From the FAQ:
Those attempting to run the game on Voodoo cards may find the following helpful. Although Voodoo cards are no longer supported by the manufacturer, the latest drivers can be obtained from www.voodoofiles.com.

Freedom Force is expected to run properly on Voodoo 3 & 5 cards under Windows 98 and Windows ME. However, there are known problems under Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The following hints may be helpful:

* Enable full screen anti aliasing. To do so, right click on your desktop and select "properties". Then, from the display properties dialog, select the "settings" tab and click on the "advanced" button. Now, select the "anti-aliasing" tab and ensure that the "Direct 3D" toggle is selected. From the list, select any option other than "best performance". This has been found to fix problems with flickering displays.

* For Voodoo 3 chipsets, the 4.12.01.0666 drivers have been found to be stable. If you have problems with other drivers, we suggest obtaining and using these.

Voodoo 1 and Voodoo Banshee chipsets will not work with Freedom Force.

Wow, I really shouldn't have been neglecting ol' Man O War, then. As far as the absence of cold-powered heroes... maybe it's because of
Spoiler:
your early face-off against Nuclear Winter... sorry, Nooocleaaaar Viiinttaaaah... and the fact that a cold-powered hero wouldn't have been very handy against him
. Sounds like a good idea for a player-created character, though... can you say "Iceman" or "Mr. Freeze?"

Wanted to give this thread about the best pc game i have played in almost a year a quick bump.

I also wanted to say if you haven't given Sea Urchin some time and levels - do so the next time you play. I absolute love her - my fav "minor" character so far and i'm even happier now that i see she gets the ability fly..... man i would read a regular comic book about her

Alright, I finished the game! Fun stuff. Although part of me thinks
Spoiler:
Time Master
should have been a little bit harder. I had more trouble with
Spoiler:
Pan's and Shadow's minions
than I did with him.

I just finished it myself tonight.... was an absolute blast - now i'm just waiting for the fan campaigns to start rolling out. Bullet ended up being my second favourite character to Sea Urchin

I think when i restart the game this time i'll focus on Liberty Lad, Man O' War, and Law and Order.... i never played any of those three except for LL and his grenades were pretty cool.

Mmmmm.... now must have an expansion from Irrational

How funny... you put Sea Urchin into play, and left Man O War out. Bullet's great... I think it's his Fist Fusillade or Flurry... three punches... that works really well. They have really good knockback... combined with his speed, he just keeps knocking his opponent down, and by the time he gets up, Bullet's there again.

Bullet came in really handy
Spoiler:
in the last "level" when I was fighting on the gears on the way to Time Master... I'd just keep using his Speeding Bullet attack to knock people off the gear. Instant kill. Cheap? Maybe. Effective? Yes.

Anyone pick this game up? I did last night for $19 at Wal-Mart and so far it's pretty fun (and funny).

If you don't know, it's a superhero parody-ish game, with made up heroes and villains that are based on comic stereotypes. You also have the option to create your own meshes, skins, characters with a huge variety of superpowers to choose from, levels, etc.

Anyone have it?
