It won't let me in, I can find it on the server list but the ping is listed as "?". When I click on it it changes to a screen that says Unreal: 24.199.16.34/index.ut2 and just sits there .

Icculus, we switched over to DM for a bit so that's probably why it dropped off your list. Try to ping and/or tracert my IP (24.199.16.34). If your latency is too high, that may be the problem.
I'm going to leave the server running the CTF map if anyone wants to try and see if they can connect to it. The server's just on a cable modem, but I think it should be able to handle 8 players.
Probably 5 or 6 DVDTalkers connected tonight, it was just too bad everyone wasn't on at the same time. It was very cool playing with other people on the board. I think I had a somewhat unfair advantage, though, because my ping to my server is like just over 10 ms . Anyway, we should schedule a time we can all play. Let me know if you guys prefer DM, CTF, or BR.

That was fun... I was only there for a few minutes, but I was able to connect at least. It was pretty clean, but then every minute or two I would freeze up and then I'd be dead. I think there's something wrong with the net code that a patch should clear up. Anyway - I'll come back tomorrow night.

I'd join, but I wouldnt want to make you all feel bad So far the best thing of the demo is playing Bombing Run with the Instagib Sniper rifles and Low Gravity turned on.

newbie question here....
do a vast majority of the people that play this game suck or am i just a good newbie? i downloaded the demo and this is the first time i've ever played an unreal game. i do the instant access and i've played probably close to 10 deathmatches and have completely dominated them all. most of the time my kills are in the 20's and i have at least half my kill score as a lead over anyone else. i basically am just running around getting a lot of headshot kills and gathering up as much power as i can when i run into it. there's probably a lot of people out there that would school me, but i'm just wondering if most people suck at this game. thanks
unless of course instant action is just against bots...which i might be starting to think it is

yeah, to me, it's completely different playing against bots. What difficulty level were you playing? If you're on Godlike and still schooling the bots, well then, yeah, you're good. I will say, the bots do seem to have much better AI compared to the first UT. They do a lot more things humans do as well.
There are some people out there who play this game religiously, and it shows. I would say that there are a vast range of playing abilities, but some are just silly good and it isn't even funny. They dominate.

Instant action is against bots. Look on the left side of the screen after you leave the main menu, there's a box where you can pick the skill level of the bots.
Also, I think the DVD Talk server hates me, I haven't been able to get in at all. It'll try to connect for a while but then I always get a screen saying connection failed or something like that .

the instant action was on whatever difficulty setting default it. i finally played against real people and ended up with 16 kills which was 5 behind the winner so i guess i'm not too bad for a n00b

I stopped playing Deathmatch type multiplayer games when Quake came out. I prefer to play CTF or other team based games. Whenever I do go into an "every man for himself" situation, I manage to be among the top 2 or 3 out of a full server. On UT2k3 I've been coming up as either the best player on my team but not the best player on the server or else best player on the server. I think it's just that there are a bunch of noobs... I mean that's usually where I am - among the top 2 or 3 score-wise in a game, but I'm really killing most people in UT2k3 and I don't think I'm all that good. I'm okay - but I'm nowhere near pro level. TattooD - you would probably do pretty well against me. The bots you played against were at average skill level. I did that twice on Deathmatch and the first time I died 6 or 7 times and the second time I died once... that means I beat the pants off of them like you did.

Oh well. That was fun while it lasted .
There's a patch out now. Not sure what it fixes, but I'm queued up to download it.

Fileshack had about a 9 minute wait. I've downloaded and applied it, but I'm still not sure what it fixed. I know there were some issues regarding servers not appearing in ASE.
Interesting thing that I just noticed in the readme file is that the textures in the demo are about 1/2 the resolution of the textures in the final version. They did that to lower the download size, I guess.
Anyway, I've set the DVDTalk server to minplayer 4, which means if there are less than 4 real players in a game, the server will add enough bots so that there are 4 players. So, if you just join the server alone, you can play with 3 bots. If other join, they'll displace bots until all the bots are gone.

I'm surprised I havent had 1 single problem with the game so far. I have all vusual settings maxed at a resoultion of 1280x1024. The game has not chugged once. Ive hosted my own servers, and played on a few others. No lag at all (ever-which amazes me) and runs like butter. I hope they keep it as flawless when the final comes out
