Xbox Sega World Series Baseball?2K3?
I need to know what's going on here.
What type of series is this?
Why is this game called World Series Baseball and NOT World Series Baseball 2K3?

Maybe because they plan to start using sequel numbers (ex. World Series Baseball 2, World Series Baseball 3) instead of year numbers because then they don't have to worry about coming out with a new game every year. It doesn't have internet play, but perhaps it'll allow for updated rosters until the next WSB game comes out. Going about it this way takes the pressure off of having to come up with a new game every year and having that new game be an upgrade over the previous year's. It takes anywhere from 2 to 5 years to make a really good game from scratch and if it has to take a year or less, then you can't really do it from scratch and you just have to improve on the previous year's game a little. I'm just guessing on all this.

They're trying to get baseball games to coincide with the right year.
Since hockey, basketball, and football seasons overlap two years, it's natural to date them ahead (Madden 2003; NHL 2k3). For baseball, it makes no sense.
Next year, WSB will be WSB 2k3, and the only way to accomplish this was to avoid a year on this year's package. EA, by the way, already was able to make the switch for this year (Triple Play 2002).

Perhaps they're trying to get the year right with the title and next year will be WSB 2K3. Triple Play did the same thing -- last year it was just Triple Play Baseball and this year it's Triple Play 2002. However, this year All Star Baseball is All Star Baseball 2003. It really doesn't make sense why they do this (I think it started way back during the Genesis/Super NES days), other than perhaps as a marketing technique aimed at idiots who see next year's date and think that it's the newest game.
