Assistance Needed - What game should I buy?

This is my first time posting in this forum (be gentle).

My husband bought a PS2 months ago and only has one game (I know pathetic). I would like to start buying him a few titles but I don't have a clue what to get. The last few games that he was addicted to were the Tomb Raider series and Resident Evil series (on other systems). He only has Dynasty Warriors 3 on PS2.

Any suggestions?

Final Fantasy X
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (you can play too!)
Grand Theft Auto 3
Devil May Cry (I think some of the same developers as RE series)

Plenty more. Don't worry about the newbie-ness. The people here will take care of you and give you more suggestions than can be purchased anyway.

I would suggest Onimusha. It's a greatest hits title so it's only $20. It's done by Capcom and is a little like RE, but more action oriented. He may also like Metal Gear Solid 2.

My personal favorites on the PS2 are Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto 3, Gran Turismo 3, Test Drive, Jak & Daxter.

You may also want to get a game pass from blockbuster for $20, so he can try out some games before you buy.

Don't forget he can play PS1 games on the PS2. So if he really liked the RE Series, you can pick up the PS1 series of RE & he can play those. Also RE Code Veronica is out for PS2 and it is fairly cheap I believe. These won't take much advantage of the PS2 but would be a known quantity for him.

I second Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance. Then you can play too, and I can near guarantee you will both have a good time. My Fiancee and I played it for months.

He will like Grand Theft Auto III. It's hard not to.

I have to agree with what others have already said, you cannot go wrong with Grand Theft Auto 3. It is worth the money and has hours of enjoyment and replay value. Also Devil May Cry is a good game for a fan of Resident Evil type games.

Some excellent suggestions already, but I will throw out some more for you.

If for now you want to stick to similar titles to those you know he liked, then I would suggest Silent Hill 2 for survival-horror, and MDK2: Armaggedon for 3rd-Person action.

Get Silent Hill 2, they have always been far superior to Resident Evil games IMO. I just got back into playing that last night. Also there's yet another Tomb Raider game around the corner...

Hot Shots Golf 3 is a total blast. It's an easy, fun galf game that can still be challanging.
I'll second Jak & Daxter, one of the best platform games on any system. It looks beautiful.
SSX Tricky is a whole lot of fun and can be found cheaply now.

and of course Grand Theft Auto 3 is as mind-bogglingly good as everyone here says.
