Halo 2: News and Rumors thread.

This is for Halo fans and those who can't wait for Halo 2.

Post any news or rumors you get about it here.

I have very little information besides what I have heard in the mags and various E3 Rumor things.

- Halo 1.5 doesn't exist. Halo 1 will not have an Xbox Live version, and Halo 2 will be Xbox Live ready, in fact, it is meant for XBox Live.

-Halo 2 will have a scene where you get on the back of a giant alien creature and ride it. (This is from an E3 rumor section.)

-Halo 2 comes out Christmas 2003.

I haven't heard to much about this game, as they seem to be very tight lipped. There have been *little* bits and pieces of rumors coming out, but they arent really supposed to talk about what they know I guess.

If you hear or know anything, please post it.. as I am desperate and really can't wait for Halo 2. Halo: Combat Evolved is one of my favorite games of all time, and I have played all the levels multiple times. I am technically a Sonic Team junkie, but I would have to say HALO is pushing me out of that mode sort of, as I think I would prefer a Halo 2 to new Sonic game. But who knows.

Anyways, post your info!

Would it be a good guess that they'll put any of the Online stuff they develop for the PC Halo on Halo 2, along with some Halo 2 only stuff?

It's very easy to get halo online now - i don't understand why people are waiting for halo 1.5 to come out.

I do play Halo online now, but there won't be any Halo 1.5...

Halo 1 will not support Xbox LIve, and they arent going to make an update of Halo 1 for Xbox Live.

Halo 2 will not have PC stuff from Halo, as I said earlier, Halo 2 is a true sequel, there is no Halo 1.5.

Bungie isn't actually doing any of the development for the PC version of Halo (it's some Texas development house). They're busy working on Halo 2 so it's unlikely that any assets will be shared between the two projects.

Actually, there's a thread dedicated to Super Mario Sunshine which isn't currently released here. I also seem to recall numerous threads dedicated to various games previewed at E3. I must have missed it in the forum rules where it stated that threads regarding future games are prohibited. If you don't want to discuss Halo 2, then don't click on this thread.

Yes there are tons of games I am looking forward to, but none as much as Halo 2. Something wrong with that?

"Ok, this is pretty sad. X-box owners need to move on. There are tons of great games that people are looking forward to, but you don't see a thread dedicated to them. Just move on..."

It seems sadder to me that you're posting in a thread that you aren't even interested in. If you don't have anything to add, why are you even here? I see plenty of post about GTA rumors, Mario previews etc. Why is excitement over HALO any different?

If you don't care about it, then why the hell are you here?

Well, I don't have any News or Rumors, but to get the thread a little more on topic, I'll mention these things. I've played the heck out of Halo, but I'd like to see some changes in Halo 2 (most of these are fairly common complaints):

- More weapons, with more specialized purposes for using certain weapons, preferably in a manner that takes a while to figure out.

- More variation in level design - Both the tight corridors of the spaceship levels and the open air levels were excellent, but the same room over and over again was a little annoying. More diverse areas would add to the "cultural identity" of the enemies (not really applicable to the Flood).

- More vehicular combat. I'd buy a spinoff Halo Warthog Wars game the day it came out. That's how much I enjoyed the vehicles.

- More reward for completist gamers like me, who simply cannot refuse to track down every enemy and destroy them.

- I wish Halo 2 would include someone to play with as well. I live with three other people, and I can't get any of them to play with me, so I have not experienced the multi-player aspect of the game.

Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to Halo 2. It's the kind of game that you don't wonder whether it will be good or not, but rather how much better than the first it can be.

I am looking for them to do more of the "cinema" type aspects of the first one... It was really amazing to be playing a level and in total control of Master Chief, all the while thinking.. "my God, this is like an amazing movie!" .. or something like that..

I guess my best example of that would be the last run to the escape ship, where you have to get through the long hallway all the way to the hend, in the warthog, while constantly dodging fire, doing jumps and explosions going off everywhere.. it was quite awesome doing this in co-op mode with the gunner constantly shooting down the never ending flood of enemies.. and it felt so good to get to the end with less than a second left.

The later levels I felt had too much repetitiveness, but it didn't bother me too much as I never really got lost.. If I got lost, I would have blamed it on the too similar looking rooms..

I really hope for some more big battles between humans and aliens, where there are tons of computer marines and you going head to head with tons of aliens, sort of like in the snow level where the aliens had the giant tank thing.

Yeah, that seems to be the main complaint with Halo. I think you can attribute that flaw to the fact that Bungie basically built everything except the game engine in about nine months. When you consider that, it makes you wonder just what they can do when given almost 2 years to develop Halo 2.

As for rumors, I've heard that the first real info and screens for Halo 2 will be out in August. So, we shouldn't have to wait too much longer.

Probably not a big deal, but the "co-creator" of Halo is quitting.

http://news.com.com/2110-1040-945578.html?tag=cdshrt

Influential game developer and Microsoft subsidiary Bungie Studios announced that co-founder and CEO Alexander Seropian is leaving the company for family reasons. Seropian was one of the co-creators of Bungie's "Halo," a critically acclaimed shooting game widely credited with driving initial sales for Microsoft's Xbox video game console.

Hmm... hopefully he was the guy that was saying "Hey, to make this game longer and cut down on our work load, let's just repeat the same levels over and over... nobody will notice" during the devlopment of Halo. Now that he's gone, maybe we'll see some more uniqueness from level to level. Wishful thinking?

Jason Jones is the programming genius behind Halo. He's basically to Bungie what John Carmack is to id. As long as he's around, Halo should be in good hands.

Well lets hope to not hear of Jason Jones leaving before December 2003, then.

I heard Halo 1 was the fastest selling million seller videogame for any of the next-generation consoles, is that true?

I remember Microsoft saying that, but I also remember that it was like the fastest launch title to sell a million or somethign like that, so it wasn't really the overall fastest. But, some good news for Microsoft, Project Gotham Racing and Dead or Alive 3 have also sold one million each.

Anyone know what the other game Bungie is working on besides Halo 2?

Anyone expect it to be a suprise announcement for Christmas or for E3 next year?!

The rumor is that the Bungie team that developed Oni is working on a game with a medieval setting possibly in the vein of the Myth series. The rumored name is "Knights of Decayden". The first part is pretty reliable but the name may be pure speculation.

Yeah, I heard a rumor that it was a medieval FPS, but that's just a rumor. Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure it'll come out before Halo2. I remember reading an interview that was a couple of months after Halo had reached a million in sales(iirc) with one of the Bungie programmers, and he said there were two games in development, one that they were almost done with, and one that was just started. So my guess is that the one they just started was Halo2 and the one that was almost done was the medieval FPS, but that's just me guessing.

I found the link to that interview: Halo Interview

Anyway, here's the good part:
S: What can you tell us about Bungie's current projects?
MH: Right now we're working on two games. One has been in the works for quite some time, one has been in the works, well... not very long at all. I can't say any more about either one without The Man's blessing.

Project Phoenix is not a FPS.

All I shall say.

Although keep in mind a while ago it was rumored to be more of a castle-sieging strategy game.

Do you know what Project Phoenix is, then?

Do you have special insider information?

I wonder if this game is being tweaked heavily and tested heavily, so that people arent let down by their expectations, after Halo.
