ok i just wanted everyone to flame in this thread because the correct argument will shown on the thread.... so we get more people to look at this thread:

for real dude, i have a gamecube, n64, dc, had snes, and played every other console for the most part, and i have YET to find a the number of high quality games that a pc has, in a console

when you are buying a new video card and what not, upgrading etc, your graphics improve alot! you know how badly coded console games get alotta slowdown for their console? when you have a pc, just upgrade and it works better! (as with me and morrowind, etc)

console gamers miss out on so much good stuff, its redicilious, and you know how ms and sony, etc are trying to make the xbox and ps into a home entertainment system and a all in one thing, online gaming etc, the pc already does that, and much better, it can play games, download,burn ,mp3s, faster and better, etc etc etc

also as someone else said, pc games are 100x more immersive, thinking and in depth than console games, consoles are good for multiplayer gaming, sports games (cause you get a big tv), and fighting games, not much else at all, except the really good first party stuff, like zelda, and dont get me started on console rpgs, you play fallout and then final fantasy, and tell me which is better!

fallout pees all over any console rpg, and that is a fact!

online games, such as unreal tournament, counterstrike, ghost recon and etc etc etc spank any 4 player console fps, only sports games have online beat. but playing ghost recon with 2 friends against 3 other opponents, with your surround sound blazing, shots everywhere, now thats a experinence

Reasons I hate PC gaming.

1. Cost of keeping the system upgraded in order to play the latest games at the optimal settings.

2. Controls. I hate playing with a mouse and keyboard. Sure there are decent controllers out there, but then you have to spend half and hour getting the controls set to your suiting. On a console you just pop it in, grab the controller and play because the controller is standard.

3. I'd rather play my games on my Wega and surround sound system while sitting on my couch, rather than sitting in my desk chair staring at a computer monitor. Sure you can run a PC to a TV, but who the hell wants there PC in the living room?

4. The game selection offers nothing of interest to me that I can't get on a console. PC's advantage is First Person Shooters, Real Time Strategy games, PC/American RPGs like Morrowind, and online gaming. I have only a passing interest in FPSs and hate the others, so it doesn't appeal to me. The genre's that interest me most (platformers, fighters, sports, FF type RPGS, action/adventure games) are as good or better on the consoles.

those are all valid points if you are a console guy look at a pc i guess but:

1) the amount you pay for consoles games is significantly higher than for a pc game, because with a pc game, you get addons, multiplayer goodness (if you have broadband,which consoles need too), patches, expansions, and usually alot more gaming time than a average console game. plus the fact that until recently, pc games were relatively cheap and if they were a few months old, they get real cheap

2) i found the mouse and keyboard to be a optimal setup for most games, especially fps and rpgs ,and more indepth type games, with a console, even if the game is not suited for the controller you still must use, plus the pc has joysticks and gamepads also

3) pc monitors give much much better detail. at the cost of size, the low resolution of tvs really suck, good thing hdtv is coming soon and you can get nice surround systems for a pc for very cheap

4)as i said before, your missing out then, its a good thing your a nintendo dude, otherwise, id have no respect

I always look at it this way: You can't upgrade your console. I have an out of date and obsolete (but still fun) Dreamcast in my room.

btw all you xbox fanboys, dont be surprised to see Halo PC not do so good, in the face of UT 2003, Unreal 2 and Doom 3, halo is nothing, it might be good for a console, but that aint saying much at all

I have a PC. I have many consoles. I play games on both. Which gets more of my time? My consoles do. I don't play FPS unless durig a deathmatch at work. MMORPG?? boo-hiss. I don't need to socialize when I play games. as a matter of fact, when I play games, I'm trying NOT to socialize. Just me, on occasion some few close friends and some Soul Calibur. I like my games to be different, to be orginal, to be fun. That doesn't happen to often with PC games. There are some exceptions, (Grim Fandango anyone?) but on the whole PC games consist of very define genres. FPS, RPG, RTS. Can you play rez on a PC? I'm not a graphic whore when it comes to my games. To me its all about the gameplay. I love cookies N cream, not for graphics (pretty cheezy) for gameplay. I love fighting games, shooters, sports titles, wacky games that can't be put in a catorgory. None of the things I like come out on a PC. my rant is over and it's to go home. woohoo!

I'm a PC gamer. I play PC games 90% of the time. the other 10% is on console. just the basics, fighting games and RPG's when good ones come out on console. I keep up, but I keep up more with PC games.

Why?

I love mouse and keyboard. I got used to it and it is second nature. more so then a controller.

the graphics and how you can always update/upgrade them. to get better quality for your games.

Online gaming is a major factor. with a decent connection, any game turns out double the replay value by simply adding the multiplayer function. Half life, a game I bought pretty much as much as a console game turned out to give me so much more with updates, modifications, etc. I have gotten TFC, Deathmatch Classic, DoD and Counter strike. this alone is great.

sure they are not pumping out games every week or so, but the games that do come out are high quality things that have high replay value.

Lets compare two similar. Star wars Obi wan and Jedi Outcast. Obi wan is out on Xbox, has a duel funtion. Jedi outcast is out on pc(and soon on console) but with the both. Out cast has the best fighting styles and great looks.

the best thing, modifications. I don't know how many skins I have now, but thats the best, I can add them as I wish, Xbox has this in a sense for games like DOA(new cloths for characters) but I get the most out of my PC games.

and with constant updates, I'm sure Jedi outcast will get the most improvements and modifications on PC. where else can you play as Vader dueling darth maul.

I put my PC first on the list for gaming.

Halo would have done wonderfully had it been released on the PC when it was also released on the Xbox. If it doesn't do well next year (late 2003 right?) it's because it took so long to come out. Basically it's Bill Gates answer for all those folks saying "I'll just wait until the PC version", well whoops that's going to be a while, err, sorry .

And Spiff, the term "fanboy" is frowned up at this forum, but you should know that by now, right?

Halo will do fairly well, it wont break the books or anything, it will just be released.. and will be sitting on the self as others are doing great in sales. but it will still be another game on the market so that way folks can actually have something to play.

I'll concede that point. Though new PC games have been running $50-60 they tend to drop in price quicker.

I just can't get used to it after playing with a controller since I was 5. Plus it's only optimal for FPSs, RTSs and PC type RPGs, all of which I don't care for. I play the occasional FPS, but I'm more a fan of the Goldeneye/Perfect Dark ones that are slower paced and aiming and moving at the same time isn't a necessity beyond strafing.

You'll never find someone that cares less about graphics than me. The added resolution just does nothing for me. I'd rather play on my Wega as size is more important to me than resolution. Plus the couch is more comfy than the desk chair, even though I have a nice leather desk chair. I know you can get surround sound cheap, but that's another purchase on top of a decent PC and video card. And a cheap PC surround sound setup isn't going to out do my home theater setup

I don't really consider myself a Nintendo dude. I play and like my PS2 just as much as my gamecube and I'm far from a Nintendo fanboy console wise. Now gamewise is a different story as Nintendo's first party games are pretty much the only reason I've stuck with gaming this long.

The two games Ive been playing the most are PC games and I have 5 consoles hooked up in my house. And they both cost zip. Day Of Defeat (a free mod for Half Life) and Americas Army.

Personally, I play my Xbox more because I'm used to the controller and my video card sucks....and I don't use my computer to play games enough to warrant spending the money on a new video card. I just reeeeeeally hope Doom3 comes to the Xbox!

Like I said Jolt, I conceded that point. There are cheaper games, and occasionally a decent free game or addon which is a definite advantage PCs have.

The big downside for me will always be the cost of keeping up. PC gaming has many advantages, but the cost one is the big thing that keeps me away. I tried at one point to PC game. I bought a new video card for Quake II and had fun playing it, but by the time the next big game came out I wanted my video card needed to be updated again.

I will take a console with 4-5 years of useful service over a video card thats more expensive and only good for 1 year.

I will say that I miss games like Grim Fandango, the Tex Murphy mysteries, 7th Guest, ect. Game genres like these are rarely tried on a console (The last Monkey Island did come out on PS2). I still have all of these on the PC and on occasion I will play them. However, it seems like these types of games are not even made for the PC that often anymore.

PC games only drop in price if they don't sell well. And the big games might even start costing in the $50+ range now.

I'm not a big PC gamer anymore since Dreamcast came out. I only play PC for the few exclusive PC titles. Last one I played alot was Medal of Honor: Allied Alliance. Next ones I'm looking at are UT2003 and Doom III.

The new consoles can pretty much do anything current video cards can do (excluding the DX9 video cards). Controls aren't an issue since I can play FPS games fine on dual analog sticks. I like to play games comfortably on my bed with my home theater system.

PC games have always had better graphics. since the time of doom's release it has had better graphics because the simple fact, once a console is released, new video cards are always getting updated and surpass the amount in graphics.

it also includes your level of how much you want to invest into a computer, which can be used for more things then just games.

Graphics is one thing. if you enjoy faster game play, ram will always help with other task you will do on your system.
a good connection is a plus for surfing the net and then gaming side of it really helps.

As for Mouse + Keyboard. they don't only go to FPS and RPG's. they go prefectly for stratgy games like star craft/war craft.

as for game varity, there is plenty to play. from pinball to space battles. it all is pretty much varried on pc.

both formats are great, I just rank PC as a better investment for me.

Back when Doom came out, video cards weren't really something you needed to upgrade to play this or that. Most video cards were integrated and didn't have any video memory. Not long after the Pentium 1 and Windows 95 came out, video cards started to become part of the upgradeable components. I remember when video cards having 2MB of memory was a big deal. Games used to be DOS based and graphically they looked only slightly better than console games at the time.
