Nvidia already announced they were working on a new chipset, and it not going to be another GeForce. However, that was just an announcement. No physical card is even available for testing.
ATI has always been a tech leader, but there drivers have been the thing holding them back. It sounds like they've got the drivers correct right out of the gate this time.....Not that we won't see updates immediately after its release.

Yeah - I saw it in action back in May at E3 when they ran Doom 3 on it. I've been a fan of ATI since the Radeon came out - before that, they were a sub-par graphics maker that made cheap consumer level cards for mass produced PCs as well as some high-end overpriced CAD cards - I wasn't in their corner back then. I knew they would overtake nVidia someday though and I hope this gives them enough breathing room to put some time torwards developing drivers. I'm probably going to buy one eventually. ATI's image has been prettier than nVidia's, and now it's gonna be faster as well. I still have to give my GeForce4 a workout though.

Theres only one reason anybody spends $400 for a videocard. This is targeted purely at the hardcore gamer. Early adopters and technophiles need not apply.
