So this means the Radeon 8500 All-In-Wonder will be coming down in price soon?

DVD Otaku 07-18-02 10:28 AM

Good for them. Nvidia is most likely working on a faster card as we speak.

gcribbs 07-18-02 11:00 AM

I guess I have the second fastest card now :(

Absolute Zero 07-18-02 11:29 AM

Nvidia already announced they were working on a new chipset, and it not going to be another GeForce. However, that was just an announcement. No physical card is even available for testing.

ATI has always been a tech leader, but there drivers have been the thing holding them back. It sounds like they've got the drivers correct right out of the gate this time.....Not that we won't see updates immediately after its release.

I think the article said a new Nvidia card is coming in November. I think it'll be worth the wait.

Toms Hardware is giving it an equally drool inspiring review. My Ge4 4400 will be fine for AA and UT2003. When Doom hits I might reevaluate though. ;)

SpacemanSpiff 07-18-02 02:30 PM

the new nvidia is called nv30

im certain it will whoop ati

Trigger 07-18-02 02:44 PM

Yeah - I saw it in action back in May at E3 when they ran Doom 3 on it. I've been a fan of ATI since the Radeon came out - before that, they were a sub-par graphics maker that made cheap consumer level cards for mass produced PCs as well as some high-end overpriced CAD cards - I wasn't in their corner back then. I knew they would overtake nVidia someday though and I hope this gives them enough breathing room to put some time torwards developing drivers. I'm probably going to buy one eventually. ATI's image has been prettier than nVidia's, and now it's gonna be faster as well. I still have to give my GeForce4 a workout though.

All the off topic comments about PC Gaming and Video cards has been split off in to this thread:
Video: PC vs. Console (a split out and merged thread)

Let's please keep this thread on topic.

Thanks.

Trigger 07-19-02 02:06 PM

Aye - maybe this thread should be moved to PC Hardware forum? That would've kept the riff-raff out. :)

Josh H 07-19-02 02:56 PM

It would make more since in the PC Hardware forum as it's dealing with PC hardware.

Theres only one reason anybody spends $400 for a videocard. This is targeted purely at the hardcore gamer. Early adopters and technophiles need not apply. ;)
