you are correct. It only allows you to play Imports.

When you use an Xbox DVD kit, the system gets locked into whatever region your kit came from and can't be changed. For example, if you have a US Xbox and buy a UK DVD kit, as soon as you use the UK kit, you will be locked into Region 2 for DVDs, and you can't change it - even if you get a US kit, too. This chip will reset that lockdown and let you use DVD kits from any region.

I am 24 and I accidentally ruined multiple games in the last year. Oh yeah and I lost disc 2 to Medal of Honor, and lost Jedi Knight 2 so I do backup my games for a reason. This is not the only reason, but it is a big reason.

I guess this is my big question them. With blanks costing about $5 each. Is it really a better idea to back up all of your games. Say I have 50 PS2 and Xbox games. $250 spent to back them all up. Now say I do ruin two games. (I can't imagine ruining more that this in a year) It would only cost me at most $100 to replace them. Games also drop in price. If you ruin a game you bought 6 months ago it might only cost $30 to replace it.

The point is I can't see how this backup my games thing makes any financial sense at all.

If thats all you do or play imports then fine, but I still feel 95% of mod chip users will be flat using it to steal. Its not worth letting 95% of theives get away with it just for the 5% that are honest.

Yes it does. I bought a French Lawrence of Arabia disc that is PAL region free. (It was free in a French Magazine) It plays perfectly on the Xbox. It does really good PAL to NTSC conversion from what I can tell.

Simple, you can pay 5 bucks for a DVD from CompUSA or wherever, but if you buy them in bulk, you can get them dirt cheap. As low as 1.20 as long as you buy 90 of them.

exactly.. dvd-r's are getting to be dirt cheap.. just paid $75 for 50 Ritek's a few weeks ago.

I don't see the point of backing up games either, other than to "back up" games you don't own.

If you're kids are tearing up your games, you need to punish them so they'll leave them alone. And better yet, put them somewhere they can't get to them. Lock them up if you have to. Seems easier than buying DVD-R's and taking time making copies, but if that floats your boat.

I have the perfect solution for protecting my stuff from kids -- I don't want any kids.

Great! Another quick question for you...If I get a PAL DVD remote will it set up my x-box as a region 2 player? I've got 3 other machines to play my region 1 discs on, but only my computer to play region 2. Also, will I still be able to play my USA bought games or will this prevent me from playing them? if you are talking about that little computer (and i think you are), i would hope you would realize that it just isnt fast enough to play those games (well, at least reasonably). check the video card, its onboard (savage). im not sure if they really improved upon the chipset, but i would bet that games like that wouldnt run well. if you could upgrade the video card, then you should be able to, but with something like that, it seems everything is proprietary. sorry to get off topic. and btw, dont take this as a flame, i just wanted you to realize that .

From what I've read it will. That is actually a pretty good idea since you already have other Region 1 DVD players. As far as I know this won't effect your ability to play US games at all. I would recommend searching around for more on the topic as I haven't tried this myself.
