Why is Warcraft 3 $59.99???

WTF?

I know this is a highly anticipated title, but $60 for a new game is insane!

I work PT at BB, so I'm sure the cost will be significantly lower, but I think this pricing structure will hurt the sales of the game.

This appears to be the going MSRP for hot new games. Neverwinter Nights is the same.

I think there are two things driving this.

1. Massive game piracy (the pirated retail version is already very available
2. Limited amount of "HOT" time. This game will be $34.99 after Christmas and $19.99 this time next year.

LOL - I doubt WC3 will be $20 by next year.

And you see people are willing to pay the price -- what's WC 3's pre orders at? 4.5 million? Most new PC games are coming out at that price for a while at least. It sucks. That's why you make friends with people at Blizzard and get the hook up prices.

If I recall correctly, Blizzard have always overpriced their games. Why? Because they can get away with it.

for the first week. i know I saw it for $39.99 not too long after it was out. I think I'll let the WC3 price cool down a little before I buy it.

Wow, $60 for a PC title. I thought PC titles were always supposed to be cheaper because they don't have to pay the fees that games on the consoles do.

Seems like a rip off, but if people will pay it....

Why is Warcraft 3 $59.99?

Because people will pay that much to own it.

I assumed it was because of higher production costs. Blizzard is one of those rare companies that goes out of their way to make sure a game is done, balanced, and top notch in value before releasing it. That costs lots of money, and to recoup their costs, they need to charge more.

Or, it could be that games have been in the $50 range for several years now. Maybe they are just going up with inflation.

Doesn't anyone remember back a few generations when NES games were $69.99?

Add to that the fact that Blizzard makes like 2 games every 3 years ...

Pretty much all new release PC game titles are $59.99 or 49.99 anymore. Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Jedi Knight 2 were both $59 at the time of their release. That's why I try and wait till either Best Buy or Circuit City has them on sale. Which is usually within a week or 2 of the games release.

Also, Blizzard has to pay for the wc3 game servers.... those things aren't free. Better to pay $60 now than $10/mo forever like everquest, etc.

60 bucks? Not for me baby - try 12 bucks! But then I work at Sierra, so all my games from them are 12 bucks.

(Plus my fiends at EA just up the street can hook me up with anything they distribute for 10 bucks. And just over in Redmond, some former co-workers can supply me with anything I need from Nintendo for my gamecube at cost. And I know people at Microsoft, too - 25 bucks for a hundred dollar operating system is sweet.)

God it's good to live in the Seattle area. Retail is for suckers.

I was wondering this about NWN.

I'll gladly wait for a much lower price for both of these.

You need to hook us up bud. I'd love to get WC3 for 12 bucks and then wait for the retail price to go down and buy a second copy for multi-player uses.

Damn.. I need your hookup.

I paid $45 for NWN, but is because of a $10 gift card from Circuit City and their price of $54.99 for the game.

Warcraft III is so awesome they'll put a 59.99 price tag on it and for those who cant wait they'll pick it up right away when it comes out. its called price discrimination or intertemporal pricing.

Share the Love: Warcraft Deluxe Edition

I'll be ordering this from Amazon.com tonight 6-28, if anyone wants some love for this email me at: [email protected]

$74.99 for the Game, Artwork book, CD Soundtrack, and DVD of the cinematics is worth it. Although this is more than they charged for the Diablo II deluxe.
