What's the FAQ say on the IGN page? Is it worth reading?

I just finished Chapter 4 last night, game time 2:45. The thing is, I kept dieing, so it really took me 1.5 hours to complete 20 minutes of game time...

I love the magic system so far. The key to killing some monsters is noticing the color they spawn in and adjusting your enchantments accordingly, I nailed the "final" monster in chap 4 with one swipe with the proper magic.

I'm 12 hours in (save time, not actual play time counting resets) and I'm at Chapter 10. I'm still loving the game. Definitely the best game I've played on any of the next gen systems.

I have encountered to things in Chapter 9 and 10 to gripe about, but they are minor and just pet peeves of mine.

Chapter 9

Spoiler:
The first part sucks. It's trial and error, run around in the dark with 6 bullets until you pick the right area to go into first, that has no enemies, a bunch of ammo, and a way to restore power. Not a big deal, I just hate trial and error gameplay

Chapter 10

Spoiler:
There is a monster that keeps running away after you hit it a few times. Unfortunately you apparently can't save until actually kill it, so I've done the same 10 minutes or so worth of gameplay over about 5 times already as I keep dying on the fourth time I encounter him. I'm going to skim a FAQ at Gamefaqs and make sure I'm going about it right, as I hate playing the same area's over and over because you can't save.

Again these are minor gripes that are really no more than personal pet peeves about to brief areas of the game.

The fact that I can't come up with anything else to complain about with this game speaks volumes of it's quality.

There's a great FAQ by DGow on www.gamefaqs.com. I can't provide a direct link as they don't work for some reason. So just go to the main site, and click on eternal darkness. It's on the right side of the screen at the top of the "Top Ten Faqs" list.

Just click on the one by DGow. It's on the bottom of the FAQ section and is the only one that is listed as just "FAQ" rather than "FAQ/Walkthrough."

His FAQ just addressed the tough spots of each chapter. The best thing is tha the first offers a hint, and then puts a detailed explanation below. That way if you don't know what to do next, you can simply look at the hint and find out generally where your supposed to go next, without totally spoiling the game for you.

There's also a good "Magic Faq" on Gamefaqs if you have any questions about the magic system.

I hit a bug at the end of Chap 4.

Spoiler:
the magick wall and all the spawning monsters, well, they wouldn't come attack me. They just stood around and I couldn't kill them. So I needed to reset.

Plus, I don't like that after dying I have to sit through all the logos again before re-loading a game. Them's my gripes.

That is kind of annoying. Another similar thing that sucks is not being able to skip cinemas you've already watched. There's a tough battle at the end of one of the chapters that has probably a 20-30 second clip before it begins. It took me about 10 times to figure out how to beat the monster (not that hard once I knew what to do) and man was I sick of seeing that cinema over and over.

But again, when we have to nit pick this much to find anything to complain about in this game, that speaks volumes of it's quality.

THanks Josh,

I don;t want to use those kind of FAQs though. I thought the one on IGN was like a data faq, not a gameplay one. I could be wrong though.

I prefer to not use a faq as I find myself reading too far ahead and spoiling things.

Same here. That's why I like this one, it's divided clearly and I can just get a vague hint of where to go next without seeing more than I want to.

This is definitely a game to play without using a guide.

I've only looked up two things so far. One was a hint on where to go next after wandering around for almost 2 hours in chapter 7. I had just overlooked something.

And the other was the afforementioned battle in chapter 10 that I wanted to see if I was going about properly. Which I was, just need to not die.
