Thermaltake VOLCANO II. Heatsink + Dual Ball bearing Fan for AMD socket A up to 1.5GHz.
SOLTEK SL-75KAV VIA KT133A AMD Athlon & Duron SDRAM 200/266MHz FSB Socket A ATX MOTHERBOARD - RETAIL Ultra ATA 100/66/33. Multiplier Setting. BIOS FSB Setting. RedStorm Overclocking. SmartDoc. Anti-Burning Shield. ** 2-YEAR WARRANTY **
AMD ATHLON THUNDERBIRD 950MHz Socket A PGA - OEM 200MHz FSB
Total = less than $250 shipped. Cheaper than an Xbox or a PS2 and you'll remain up-to-date enough for games to come over the next year or so. The 400mhz celery and your motherboard are probably your biggest bottlenecks. Your SDRAM should work with that Soltek motherboard and that 64MB GeForce 2 should fit in nicely with the upgrade whereas now it's kinda carrying the rest of the system.
I shop at www.newegg.com and have never been disappointed... price and service are among the best.

Thanks for the advice Trigger, I'll look into that. I usually upgrade in steps as you can tell, and I essentially play little or no games on my PC cuz it just doesn't feel right like a nice console system. But, I've really wanted to play GTA3, but have no interest in a PS2 or it's crazy price.
Now if they would just release it on the Cube

Word on shacknews.com is that GTA3 for the PC will not have multiplayer. I can't say this is surprising as adding multiplayer capabilities would be a huge design task which would probably take months to get right.
Just release it with quicker load times and higher resolution textures than the PS2 version and I'd be happy.

I looked over that release specifically to see if there was any mention of an XBox release. There was none, which struck me as kind of odd.

GTA3 is such an open-ended game, I'm not sure you could have a multiplayer element and still have GTA3 at the same time. Most multi-player games have some sort of competitive "goal" to achieve, like capture the flag, or deathmatch, or they are a sort of massive online multiplayer thing. GTA3 isn't really either, and I think forcing the game into a multiplayer role would require a re-think of the whole game.
