Jedi Knight 2: Outcast

Well since its out, and I got my copy installed and been playing, what the hell make a thread about its multiplayer abilties

I really like the whole force factor in it all. force pull, force choke, etc. etc. they seem to work well with the levels. I wish the saber duels made more of a duel sense, but hey, its a fps, what can you expect?

Might aswell kick off also a little secret.. double bladed sabers.. thanks to theforce.net

Start your own server.
Pull down console, type in "devmap mapname" [mapname is the name of any map, ffa_deathstar for example].
Take out saber, and deactivate it by hitting 1 again.
In console, type /THE DESTROYER or \THEDESTROYER [one of them will work]
reactivate saber

Sexy. No, not you, Jack, I meant the lightsaber. So, overall, you recommend it? How are single player and multiplayer, as compared to other popular FPSs?

Ive been playing the game for 2 days straight. I like both game modes. Multiplayer is cool but using a lightsaber takes a lot of getting used to since lightsabers are close up weapons

It runs like ass on my pc too. Although I seem to meet the system requirements (PII400/196MB/16MB OpenGL card) it's very sluggish during outdoor scenes and heavy battle scenes. Any suggestions?

I can't believe this... my copy's not installing right, either. Grrr. Waiting on a tech support e-mail from LucasArts... I may make a second trip to Best Buy tonight if it turns out that it's a faulty disc.

Well I finished the game tonight, so I guess I can comment on this. I played on "Jedi" level the first time through because I wanted to see how hard it was. let me just say this, once you get the light sabre and the force powers, the game gets easier. The first 2 levels though where you have to rely on the blasters is a bitch. I found myself frequently running low on ammo, however I did make it through them without too much difficulty, but those troopers run around all the time and never stand still, makes it hard to shoot 'em.

However, once you get your light sabre and the use of the force powers, it's all good fun from there on. The ending was a little disappointing, but the action in the game is good and continuous. The cutscenes are pretty nice and the graphics are top notch as well. I like how you can interact with the environment with the force powers, and also how there are secrets on almost all the levels that reward you for looking around a little bit (that's always fun in a game, at least it is for me anyhow). The game was enjoyable for me, and took me over a week to finish, so that's good for me. I might go back and start playing it again on a harder level to see how it stands up.
Spoiler:
The best part of the game IMHO though was the sabre battles with the dark jedi, or reborn jedi.

Oops, I forgot to add about it's difficulty. Well, the whole game is solving puzzles, like you have to gather access codes and what not, or find the fuel tank to start pumping the fuel to your ship, and it does get somewhat confusing from time to time when you read the objective but you have no idea where to go to complete that objective. I found myself running around a lot of the time not knowing what I was to do next, only to look up and find a grate that I could cut through and jump into an air duct. So you have to be keen on your surroundings to know what to do next in some levels. It's still a fun game though.

I had a feeling it would be like that. I haven't bought any PC games in awhile, even though I still barely meet most of the min. reqs. I've got a K6-2 450 with 384MB RAM and a Voodoo3 3000.

If you're a "performance snob", you may want to think twice as we have very similar systems (I have the Voodoo3 3000 too). I just wish they had posted more realistic reqs for the game.

Can you play the game in a 1st person perspective? Everything screen I have seen is in 3rd person.

Normally you are in first person view, you switch to 3rd when using the light-saber.

The story continues... talked to LucasArts tech support, talked to Gateway tech support, went to Best Buy to get a new disc... and that one doesn't work, either. What the heck? I tried my old game disc on a display computer at a store, and it worked fine. I'm thinking there's some incompatibility with my computer... can't imagine what it is, though. Same thing happened in college with my old computer and the game "Total Annihilation." This blows.

Thanks! I went looking and found a 1st person screen with Chewie's crossbow.

Speaking of the crossbow, does it suck like it did in JK?

Hmm, maybe you should start a thread in the computer forum and we could figure it out.

Actually...

You can play the game entirely from either perspective. Doesn't matter if you have the lightsaber or not. There is an option to automatically switch to third person when you draw your lightsaber, and back to first when you draw a weapon. This is how I have it set. But you could technically play through the entire game on either perspective. Just hit "p" by default to switch it.

I was up till 1:30 last night cause I couldn't go to be until I got the lightsaber. Finally did, but had to go to bed. I did block some blaster bolts and tossed some guys around with force push.

It's very early for my force powers, but already something cool happened. Someone threw a thermal detonator at me, and I "force pushed" it right back at him. Very cool...

Static, for what it's worth when I tried to install thsi game with my old DVD Rom drive (it's like 4 years old) I had some issues and had to use my 24x Samsung Burner to get it installed. I run the game CD in the DVD Rom drive without any problems when playing the game, but it just wouldn't install from there. Do you have 2 CD ROM's in your PC? If so, try the other one...if not, maybe it's time for an upgrade. Good luck.

What do you mean, you used your 24x burner to get it installed? Did you burn a copy and install from the copy, or just install through your newer CD drive?

I seriously hope that it's not time to upgrade... my computer's only a year-and-a-half old. My plea-for-help thread in the Computer Forum: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=197286. My system specs are in there. It's not top-of-the-line, but it's at least a fairly good system, compared to minimum specs needed to run today's games.

I got this today and this game is awesome! If you are a Star Wars geek like myself, you should be ashamed if you don't have this game already. It is JK on steroids! Multiplayer is Quake with lightsabers, but it is very fast paced and hey, you can be Lando

Okay, my problem is solved... check out the link above if you want more details. Fun game! So far, I still like MOH:AA better though, although I get the feeling the ending of JK2 will be a little more climactic than MOH:AA.

I would think that with the massive mod community from JK will carry over to this game.
