This may be the wrong forum, but I keep getting an error message in the same spot and it won't let me go any further. In Nar Shadda, after talking to Lando, and getting into that guy's hideout using the password, I go down the elevator, slice through the cage, and when I turn the corner, I get this:

S_AddLoopSounds():
Cannot use streamed MP3 files here for random access
(sound/chars/turret/ping)

Does anyone know anything about this?

tor_greg... try either posting in the Computer Forum, or check out this Jedi Knight 2 forum:

There is a tech support section at that forum. It uses the same bulletin board software as DVD Talk, so you should find it pretty easy to navigate.

I seriously hope that it's not time to upgrade... my computer's only a year-and-a-half old. My plea-for-help thread in the Computer Forum: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=197286. My system specs are in there. It's not top-of-the-line, but it's at least a fairly good system, compared to minimum specs needed to run today's games.
No, I mean I installed the game on my burner. However I did burn a copy of the game and still wasn't able to instal lit on my DVD Rom drive...but then again this drive is a few years old (4 at least).

Just have to add my two cents...

This game is awesome! Once you get your lightsaber, and start using the force powers, the variety of combat options you have is extremely varied, and the game has kept me up until 2:30 A.M. for the last four nightsin a row.

(And I'm a pretty jaded 35 year-old-gamer... it takes a lot to keep me gaming late into the night, these days... the kids usually tire me out too much...)

Best thing I've played in a LONG while!

Mike,
You should be able to run it...although it may be a little on the slow side. You certainly have enough memory, and your graphics card seems fine and you have 64 MB on that which is good. I think it'll work but I'm no expert.

runs fine, had to set it to 16bit color though
but my friend who has a much faster athlon says he had to set everything to crappy settings for it to run. he must have a crappy video card or something

Mike,
I run it on an Athlon 700 mhz...but I upgraded my video card to a 64MB GeForce 3 TI200 back in January and the video card does make all the difference. I previously had a 32MB ATI Rage 128 which I was having all kinds of problems with driver wise and the performance just wasn't cutting it with the games I was trying to run. So I'm willing to bet your assessment of your friends video card is correct.

haven't played it since patching it last night. but has anyone had problems with blaster bolts going through targets and not hurting them?
I can shoot storm troopers and teh blaster bolt goes through them at times and doesn't hurt them.
seems like I sometimes have to shoot them a ton of times for them to finally die and this is with them standing still at times at fairly close range

while I don't have that problem I did experience a little different blaster problem. After you take the little train ride thingy toward the beginning of the game (level 3 maybe?) once it stops a couple of ST's start blasting you. Well I was ducked down behind the train/cart thing and their shots were coming right through! Ya know when you die it's in SM and the shots came right down through that metal and ripped right through me I only had like 55 health and 0 shield so I didn't last long rofl

I think the patch fixed it, but I was mainly using the lightsaber last night and didn't fight any imperials

I just finished the game tonight, so I thought I'd pretty much echo what everybody else was saying: great game. The game is incredibly frustrating (to me) until you get your saber, because your weapons are either really slow to fire, or inaccurate. But once you get the saber, things really get to pick up.

Pros:
  • Lightsaber: This version beats the bloody hell out of the Jedi Knight version; blocking shots is much more accurate, and your fighting abilities are far more in depth (3 different stances, each with different moves and benefits).
  • Force Powers: This is where the game went from 'fun' to 'really, really fun,' IMO. Once you get "Push", you become essentially unstoppable. While I didn't use all of the powers that often (Lightning), and while I didn't use some until they were fully powered up (Grip and Mind Trick), the others were always useful. Plus, it's just a helluva lot of fun to push 6 Stormtroopers off a narrow catwalk, or to Grip a Stormtrooper and slam him into the wall to kill him.
  • Enemy AI: These guys were VERY smart. They don't sit still while you shoot their buddies, as they do in other games. They'll actively try to surround you. If you start unleashing force powers, or if you kill a squad leader, they'll get scared and run off. Excellent job.
  • Atmosphere: You just can't beat the SW atmosphere if you're a fan of the movies. From watching young jedis train to fighting in a seedy cantina, there's not much you can't do. Nothing, NOTHING, is more fun than opening a cargo bay door and watching 15 stormtroopers get sucked into space.

Cons:
  • All non-light saber weapons are essentially useless: You don't get 3 or 4 of the weapons until after you get your saber. Once you have the saber though, you really don't ever need any of them, except for maybe the sniper rifle. And some of the weapons are almost completely worthless in single player (trip mines). I can probably count on both hands how often I used a non-saber weapon after I got the saber.
  • Puzzles, puzzles, puzzles: There are puzzles in almost every level. I guess if you like puzzles, that's good. I don't personally care for quite so many. Jedi Knight was plagued with them too.
  • Often non-sensical designs: The designs are often for the sake of puzzles, but they really don't make too much sense. Why on earth, in a giant starship, would you have to jump between 9 rooms arranged over a bottomless pit, some with no walkway connecting them, in order to turn on a telecommunications array? That's like me having to go through a gauntlet of death every time I'd like to use the restroom. It detracts from the immersion in the game.
  • Very high difficulty at times: The game is hard, and it can be unforgiving. There were one or two levels where I had to turn god mode on; it wasn't that I didn't know what I needed to do. And it wasn't that I wasn't trying. I just couldn't do it (
    Spoiler:
For example, the walkway in Bespin where you have to follow the R2 unit and keep it safe, where there are laser mines set up to kill the R2 and there are snipers gunning for you
). And I finally just gave up on the last boss and cheated. I couldn't beat the boss of Jedi Knight 1 either.

My favorite moments:
  • Spoiler:
Piloting an AT-ST through a canyon
  • Spoiler:
Sucking a ton of troopers out of a cargo bay door by turning off the force field
  • Spoiler:
Fighting alongside other Jedis, including Luke
  • Being able to run into a room of 15 Stormtroopers, knowing not only that you'll win, but that you'll do it without them being able to hit you.
  • Spoiler:
Dueling with Dark Jedi in lots of different areas (Catwalks, Freezing chambers in Bespin, in the Jedi Academy)
  • Using the Jedi Mind trick on the Storm Troopers with rocket launchers to cause all sorts of chaos
  • Spoiler:
Targeting Tie Fighters with a ship's cannons.
