People should be thinking about the games, not the consoles. Pick and enjoy whatever console that has the most games you like or think you'll like.

I solve all my gaming needs by owning:
• PC - I'm a big time CRPG nut
• PS2 - Just had to have Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance, The Two Towers. etc and I get to play PS1 titles that my friends own
• GameCube - Nintendo seems to have the most exclusives on game titles that I want like Super Monkey Ball 2, Eternal Darkness, Super Mario Sunshine, and a plethora of upcoming games like the new Metroid & Zelda.

I don't own a XBOX because (so far) the games I like that are out for it are also out/coming out for the PC and/or PS2.

Is there a non-biased FAQ anywhere that has the specs and pros/cons of each of the big 3 consoles?

I was wondering when I would see another member as old as I am(forum-wise). May 99. Cool.

I have stayed in the DVDTalk/bargain end of the forum until this week and thought I would venture into the videogame forum. What a mistake that was. I was in a thread about upcoming releases (system vs. system), being that was a thread about opinions on future games I expressed my OPINION about the subject, I was flamed so I shot back a hasty reply crying 'fanboy' and more. Realizing it wasn't worth it I quickly edited my post and deleted out the negative stuff, staying focused on the subject. I even made it clear I own BOTH of the systems involved, making it a valid post, not a "fanboy - I hate your system" thing. I still got flamed.

So what ensues? A handful of people that saw the original post declaring I be banned and a page more of flames and whatnot. Talking about me like I'm some 12 year old kid. What a waste of time. I've been here for ages. I know the rules, and adhered to them.

What makes it worse is another member just mentioning in that he has XB envy because of Ninja Gaiden. Innocent right. Well aparently this guy is totally wack because he doesn't like the rest of the XB lineup. That is the opinion you would get reading the follow ups. It's ridiculous.

I just plan on sticking to posting in DVD, and keeping all my thoughts to myself anywhere near a hot topic. The children should be banned, I'm just not one of them. Done. I'm going to go play some games now.

IIRC, Michael, your post in question went a wee bit further than "expressing an opinion." Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Eh - he didn't know... if we hadn't all gone through the whole console war last year and been through all the fights about which is better and whatnot, we wouldn't know that it's bad to fight about it. He missed all those discussions, so he was probably just being normal. When I'm with my roommates, we rip on whatever games and consoles we want to and nobody gets their wussy little feelings hurt ... We each own one console and they are all different. Michael just didn't know is all. People are too sensitive or something.

My original post was my opinion. The post you were referring to was my rebuttal for being flamed, and talked to like I'm an idiot.

Titles

I noticed several members have "Senior Member" etc under their user names. How do you get these titles?

If I'm not mistaken, it is how much BS you flood the forum with. i.e. useless posts. Padding your posting frequency. The more you post the higher you are. Much like this post. I prefer longevity. Since May 99 baby.

It's the number of posts you have, period. Forum software doesn't separate signal from noise (although it'd be interesting if it did). Check out the FAQ thread in the Feedback Forum... it's covered more extensively there.

I figure now is a good time to reinforce that padding isn't allowed here.

Michael, all I can say is I have had the same exact experience. I normally stay in the DVD section but decided to check things out over here. I have found the same here as many other forums where you have this big NO system bashing policy but actual PEOPLE bashing seems to be fine and dandy. You post anything negative about a system and you get bashed, flamed, etc. whether you state it as opinion or not. On the other hand sit back and flame those who have the audacity to post something negative in a topic about a system (or add on) and you are a great poster or so it seems. Only post flowery good thoughts about everything and you will be ok. I'm headed out of this part of DVDTalk as well. It isn't worth the frustration of seeing some members running rampant while others seem to be held to higher standards. This is my OPINION.

Personal attacks aren't allowed on this forum*, so if you see that sort of thing going on use the "Report this post to a Moderator" function.

One thing to consider also is that the Video Game Forum is a pretty small and vocal group, and there are a lot of people posting in the same threads. We do break each others balls a lot around here, so sometimes what is actually harmless kidding around might appear to be personal attacks.

* Unless you attacking Trigger. That's the only exception.

Personal attacks may not be ok by the rules but they seem to be the first reaction by many posters to anything they disagree with. I know about busting people's chops and that is cool. It's just that it seems like at least some of the time it isn't kidding around. It is closer to the situation with Michael in which someone posted their disagreeing opinion and got bashed. I haven't taken the time to read his thread so this is all based on speculation that he is telling the truth but I've glanced around and seen enough to know that this isn't an isolated incident.

For example the thread I got involved in was closed. When I read back I see mistakes by both sides but it originally started with a person saying they thought a certain add on for a system was stupid (which many others agreed). This person had evidently had other bad things to say about this system so they hammered him, called him an idiot etc. Maybe the guy was a thread basher like they claimed but after I read back to the beginning I realized it would have NEVER gotten out of control if people would have just let him have his opinion about the add on. At this point of the thread nothing bad had been done. It wasn't until after they attacked the guy that it got out of hand and I voiced my opinion. The thread got out of control but the point at which it STARTED getting bad was when they bashed HIM and his opinion. If they would have just let him have his opinion (which actually was the same as many other people) then everything would have been fine.

But Kainan, the example you give proves that the system works...that thread was closed and the moderators clamped down. There aren't a lot of closed threads in this forum...the one you mention was the exception (where a combined series of events got out of hand) rather than the rule.

Maybe you are right and I just got off to a bad start here. I really shouldn't judge by one event. It just brought back horrible memories of TeamXbox forum where if you don't like every single Xbox game then you are a fanboy. I often have negative things to say about all 3 of the top consoles because I call it like I see it. It seems like that might not be a good thing here if my first experience is any indication of how people react to any negative opinions. I'll poke around and hope I find that I'm wrong. I appreciate your comments in a non flaming fashion as I have discussed my displeasure so far.

Well, they did publish the Matrix game, so I'd say that is a fair assessment, and since that is a multiplatform game, and Atari is not doing hardware anymore, I think I'm safe to bash that

Ok.. seeing that my thread was closed because of why consoles aren't good as PC systems, I decided post here. My discussion was not bashing exactly since I was trying to give constructive reasons why consoles aren't good as PCs. If you feel these criticisms are wrong I just want to hear it.. maybe you can convince me. That was my whole point across.

Well.. anyways.. here's a little detail on my opinion:

You know you can easily place a very nice PC system right in your living room and use a comfortable leather EZ chair to sit in while you play your PC games.

You can also easily attach a TV input/output line to any size TV with a video card that allows you to do that. Most of these vid cards are relatively cheap now.

Now.. let's talk about the graphics comparison again. Every year technology increases exponentially giving us better PC systems, video cards, and so on. What may be expensive at the beginning of the year is really cheap by the end of the year.

Believe me new video cards comes out almost every 4-5 months or so. We already have video cards that outperform any console out there. We also already have PC systems that can handle games that rival similar graphics of one of your best console game without using it's full power potential (i.e. I have never seen a PC requirement of 1.4 Ghz to play a game smoothly with graphics similar to a console game and we already have PCs that go above 2.4 Ghz!).

Beautiful and precision graphics will eventually reach it's limit and potential. It seems that PC technology will reach it first and any new console system will have to bow down.

This isn't a sticky for posting or continuing topics that get closed.

Your thread started and ended like this:
Why waste your money on console games people?!! PC is the way to go and the wave of the future when playing games.
. . .
I suggest you all STICK to PC technology for it will RULE every consoles out there!
Beginning a thread talking about how console games are a waste of money is not the way to begin a reasonable, constructive discussion.
