favorite real time strategy game? (for pc)

Ive always enjoyed age of empires/rise of rome
and age of kings completely blew it away

more recently I started playing empire earth.. it has some features that are better then rise of rome... but I still dont think its near the same level as age of kings

I also just started playing around with Star Wars - Galactic Battlegrounds... it looks pretty promising.. Ive really enjoyed this one so far

but Im curious which real time strategy games (pc only) everyone else plays

I'm more of a turn-based guy myself, but I liked "Warcraft II" and "Sacrifice" the best.

I haven't really played any RTS's extensively since Dune II and C&C. So, um, one of those I guess.

My favorite would have to be Age of Empires II: Age of Kings.
The Conquerors expansion did a great job of improving the balance between all of the civilizations too.

Come now ppl...StarCraft. All the Craft series are good. I also like C&C and Age of Empires. But nothing tops StarCraft yet in my opinion.

I think the genre hit is zenith with Starcraft. I tried Age of Empires II when it first came out, but it didn't really grab me. Maybe I'll give it another shot someday.

I'm looking forward to Warcraft III. It looks like Blizzard's trying to change the genre a bit, but with their track record, it should turn out great.

I prefer turn-based myself but Sacrifice is one hell of a game.

All the Blizzard Craft type games are the ones I like best. The first I ever played was Starcraft during the summer and I was hooked. It was really hard at first though I gave up playing it. A few days later I gave it a second shot and tried to understand the rules on how everything works together, when I started getting the hang of things I couldn't stop playing it. . I still occasionally play to this day, the multiplayer is incrediblely addicting, especially when you form teams.

Personally, I thought that Starcraft was just OK. I don't know why; I just found it boring.

Anyone play Total Annihilation? This was probably my favorite, especially with all the mods available on-line. But I hated Total Annihilation Kingdoms.
