Here is my question. I bought a Toshiba flat screen. Its either 20" or 21" at Best Buy. It has component inputs. So did my Pioneer DVD player. Hooked them up - no picture. So I bought a Toshiba DVD player. Hooked them up thru component inputs. Worked. So does Toshiba component inputs only work with other Toshiba products? When I change the video input they call it "COlor STream" --- so I am guessing if I bought the cord for my Gamecube, I will get no picture?

Supposedly, the Japanese cables will work just fine on the US GC. (I hope so)

You do NOT need a TV with progressive capability to use/take advantage of component cables. If your TV does progressive scanning, then you will get a progressive picture when using component cables. If your TV does not do progressive scanning, you will get a regular image but it will look much cleaner due to the fact that it split the video signal the best to deter any distorition that may occur.
Your GC will have a picture.

Eternia,
I have a Toshiba telly, and Toshiba DVD player, and a GameCube. The tv is HDTV, 16:9. I bought the Nintendo HD Cables, connected them to the tv, and lo and behold - Progressive 16:9 gaming! I do believe your pioneer dvd player had something wrong, because component inputs are component inputs. Hope this helps a bit.
