Metal Gear Solid 2 may be delayed.........

Despite the recent attacks, I think that MGS2 should be released uncensored. I would understand if they delayed the release until next year, but cancelling the most highly anticipated game is going too far. We cannot let these terrorists attacks change our lives -- that is part of their goal.

Back in middle school, I used to crash the plane into the L'Arc de Triumph in France. Is that horrible to? And ya know what? No one's done it yet in real life.

I don't think this should be censored though, it's just a game.
If you think that this title should be censored, or even cancelled... then what are your thoughts on Microsofts "Flight simulator" PC game?
In that game, you can fly a plane over the NY city skyline, turn the plane, and actually fly it into the WTC.
Thoughts?

What exactly do you mean in a reliable manner? The only way that I am aware of is buy a mod chip. The easiest way to buy a mod chip is off the internet they cost around 40 dollars and you can either send you PS2 in or do it yourself with some simple soldering. I decided to do it myself because I wasn't surewhat the companys reputation and found it to be pretty simple to install. If you mean reliable in the sense that the PS2 works properly and doesn't break down, I have had no such problems with my PS2 after it was chipped the only downside is that this voids all warrentys on the unit and Sony will refuse to service it.
I hope that they release this MSG2 as this was one of the main reasons I bought the PS2.

They have Developer boxes which allow you to play basically anything, and the mod I recently looked at buying was a direct hookup through the USB port and it only cost 27 dollars including shipping. Easybuy had these.

Possibly cancelled!
Spoiler Alert!
"Konami and the creators of MGS2 recently stated that the future of their masterpiece game is unknown.
To help shed some light on this, the reason that Konami is talking cancellation is due to the game's ending which involves Solid Snake fighting against Liquid Snake and a band of terrorists inside the WTC when a plane or helicopter plows directly into the building.
The end is rumored to be very flashy and was the most expensive and time consuming part of the game (development wise), so re-doing the ending is unfeasible unless the game is delayed at least a year."
This is not a news story. This is a rumor. We all hope it is not true, but be prepared if it is.

Konami Careful About Future of MGS2
Konami issues official statement on the future of Metal Gear Solid 2 for the holidays.
September 14, 2001
After most of the initial shock of the horrific events that occurred Tuesday morning on September 11, 2001 began to sink in, some Americans began to wonder how it would affect certain things in their lives that seemed much more important just a few days ago, such as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Much of the questions we've received here at IGNPS2 over the past 48 or so hours have do with the status of certain games that deal with violent issues, whether it be MGS2, Grand Theft Auto III, Tribes, or any other games that have shooting in them.
The game brought up the most, however, has been Konami's highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, which happens to feature terrorists in New York City as one of the game's adversarial parties. The speculation that has been circulating is that the game would either be delayed or cancelled in the West because of the recent happenings in the United States.
Yesterday and today, we received official statements from Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and from Konami of America regarding the effects of the simultaneous terrorist incidents in the United States on its upcoming product.
"Konami of America is still in shock over the recent tragic events," said a spokesperson from Konami of America. "Metal Gear Solid 2 is about the desire to end violence on a global scale, as the previous games in the series have been. Like everyone in America, Konami is evaluating the impact of these events. In the meantime, all of our thoughts are with New York City and Washington, DC and all of the people whose lives have been touched by this tragedy. There are no words to adequately express our sorrow, but we firmly believe that the people of America will come through this trial stronger than ever."
"We do not know what effects there will be upon Metal Gear Solid 2 at this moment," added a spokesperson from Konami Japan. "We are currently collecting and analyzing information regarding this matter and would like to express our condolences to the victims of the tragedy."
-----------------------------------------
I suspect that a 3-4 month delay would be a real possiblity under the circumstances. As far as a cancellation? No way. You don't shelve the greatest game of all time (potentially) over sensitivity isues. Besides, you can see they're already spinning this; that the games is about fighting terrorists. It's a tough position they'll be in, but the came WILL come out, it's got to.

newest press release from Konami about the status of MGS2
http://www.fgnonline.com/playstation2/news/19940.html
Konami Clarifies MGS2 Status
PlayStation 2: Konami has said it may have to remove certain scenes from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty because they show the New York City skyline, including the World Trade Center.
As the demo depicted, Solid Snake does battle in the waters off New York City. The title is now being reviewed by publisher Konami out of concern that some scenes could offend audiences after last week's attack on the WTC.
Konami will reevaluate the latest edition of the Metal Gear franchise, which is expected in mid-November.
"Right now the events in New York have just been so tragic and have just impacted so many people here that every industry in America, and most of the Western world, is going to be very careful about what they do in the coming months, especially the entertainment industry," said Chris Kramer, spokesman for Konami of America.
Some scenes may also be removed because they show the WTC as part of the New York City skyline. "Metal Gear Solid 2 is about the desire to end violence on a global scale, as the previous games in the series have been," the company added.
While Konami plans to do a version for Xbox console, no title or plot for the game have been determined, Kramer said.

Metal Gear Solid 2 Still On Track
Konami has confirmed that PS2's biggest game is coming in November, albeit with minor changes.
September 18, 2001
In a press release issued early on September 19 Japan time, Konami Co. Ltd. clarified the company's plans regarding the release of Metal Gear Solid 2 in the United States in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. According to the release, the game is still on track to ship in the states in November, albeit with very minor modifications to certain scenes which featured the World Trade Center.

I can't see Konami destroying, and repressing the Japenese version of the game if they've already completed it. They'll probably only make changes on the domestic version, and we'll get a nice side by side comparison article on them a little down the road.

The reason I say it probably will be the same is because the initial Konami statement came from the Japan development group and not the American side. A lot of people wrote messages on the MGS2 Japan home page asking for them to release it on time and uncensored. Taking out the WTC to keep up with the times and the realism of the here and now isn't really censoring I'd say.
