Should I get a DC?????

I have pre-ordered the Gamecube, but at $79.99 should I take a flier on the Dreamcast?
I haven't bought a system since the PSX about 6 years ago. I decided to go with the Gamecube because I have a 5 and 3 year old that will take advantage of their characters for younger children. It also looks as though they will be carrying more titles geared to adults.

I know Sega will be making games for the Gamecube so should I even be thinking of getting a DC?

Can anyone give me some reasons on why to get a DC if I am 100% sure I will be getting a Gamecube............

I heard a rumor that the price of the Dreamcast would drop as low as $49.99.

Reasons to get a DC:

1. Soul Calibur
2. Soul Calibur
3. Capcom 2-D fighters
4. Shenmue
5. Sonic Adventure 1/2
6. Virtua Tennis
7. NFL2k1
8. NBA2K1
9. Emulators galore
10.Soul Calibur

The controllers need a while to get used to, but I'm convinced they're much better than the PS1/2 controllers.
The VMUs are cool, but the LCD screens eat up batteries when not plugged into the controller. Also, some games take up a ton of VMU space....but VMUs are really cheap now so you could stock up.
Online play is great, but not that many games support it.
Games are very cheap compared to every other current system.
The system is definately worth $80, however, there aren't very many games targeted twords younger children. Even the Sonic games are geared more twords older children and adults.

There are a ton of great games for the DC! At the $80 price point, you could easily pick up a DC, a few games, a few VMUs, and an extra controller for less than $150. You really can't beat that. Here's a DC dedicated news/review site that might help ya with the games:

dreamcast.ign.com

I have close to 40 DC games, and most of them are excellent. I highly recommend these:

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (fighting)
Soul Caliber (fighting)
Crazy Taxi (arcade racing)
Jet Grind Radio (arcade-ish racing)
Shenmue (RPG)
Grandia 2 (RPG)
MDK2 (adventure)
Sonic Adventure
House of the Dead 2 (light gun)
Confidential Mission (light gun)

I don't play sports games, but Sega makes some of the best!

In short yes ,
where else are you going to get a system that:
Is ready to go online out of the box
has several great online titles...Quake III, Unreal Trnt, Worms World Party, Starlancer, PSO, NBA 2k1, NFL 2k1

Plays VCDS with a disc,

Has incredible games for 9.99 ..Jet Grind radio, Sega GT

Just get one the controller is the best in the business when you get used to it also these puppies are durable, I have been playing mine hardcore since Nov '99 and not a problem to report. Long Live DC

Will Sega continue making games for the DC? I know Sega called it quits but will they support this console and for how long?

I think games are scheduled to come out until the end of the year. I wouldn't get the DC as a platform to play *future* games on, but rather, as a way to play some of the best games available *now.*

Hell yes get one. I picked up one a year ago at 200 bucks and I do not regret at all paying that price. The best damned system I have ever owned.

I will pick up a gamecube when I comes out but I guarandamntee I will still be playing my DC for a long while.

One more thing...

The Sega games that have "online" in the titles such as "Phantsay Star Onlne" Must those be played Online or can you enjoy them as just a game to play solo....

And does anyone know which current DC games will come out for the Gamecube?

Thanks

PSO you can play solo missions you dont have to be online, WSB2k2 is pretty sweet too, but i think a must have is Virtua Tennis. Its a kick ass game for when you have friends over and it doesnt have a learning curve, only use 2 buttons and $20 bucks new

I agree with Virtua Tennis. Never got into Crazy Taxi much, but it is a great game! Another must have would have to be NBA2K1 or NFL2K1, those are great sports titles. I am also having a great time with World Series Baseball 2K2 (not to be confused with the suck WSB2K1). There are some awesome games that are yet to be released for DC, such as NCAA Football 2K2(Sept. 11th), NFL2K2, and Shenmue 2, etc... With the prices of not only the system it's self dropping, so are the accessories and the games. You can pick up many great titles for under $10.

I know Sega's sports games (the 2K series) are coming to GC, as are Crazy Taxi and Phantasy Star Online v.2. The sequel to Soul Calibur is on its way to GC, and rumor has it that Sonic Adventure 2 will be confirmed later this week at SpaceWorld.

If you don't want the 2k1 Sports Bundle or the Sonic Bundle then your only real choice is to get the Smash Pack Bundle. I would reccomend just buying a core system and one or two of the $10 titles like Jet Grind Radio or Sega GT.
