how important is backwards compatability to you?
just curious - inspired mainly by the "why gamecube will fail" thread
for me, it's not important, when i bought my ps2, there wer only a handful of games i played on ps1. but being that i already had a ps1, i wasn't overly concerned - my opinion is that it's a nice feature to have, but it won't dictate whether or not i buy a system

Well, for me, it was fairly important. I had one of the first (if not THE first) models of PS1 and by the time PS2 rolled around, my PS1 was a mess. I had to mess with the wires a ton just to get it to work. I'm still using the backwards compatibility in playing FF6 and later going to play Chrono Trigger.

Depends on the cost and bulk that it adds to the system. In the case of the PS2, I doubt it added much cost to the units, so it makes sense. It doesn't really matter to me, though, since I still have all my old systems.
