Will the X-Box fail?

I am a HUGE X-Box fan and supporter and I have been going to biased forums and would like to know for sure. What you think.

I think it will. The XBox is up against the industry powerhouse(Sony) and the fan favorite(nintendo), and with the $300 price tage...it's a bit too steep for those already invested in a PS2.

i think we have to wait to see the release titles and the games that will come out. it shows promise. and even though its up against two power houses, Nintendo of course will be the winner of this fight, but it seems like sony is being to cocky. l

5 year plan

Microsoft has a five year plan and a couple of billion dollars to invest in the X-Box. Time and money is on their side.

The first verison of anything Microsoft does is lackluster. But, they hang in there and eventually become the industry leader.

In three years, Microsoft's whatever box will be #1.

These are not my reasons, as I am quite interested in the X-box, but these are some of the primary arguments I have seen around the net while doing my research of the industry.

-Reasons why the X-box will fail:
-Lack of Powerful 1st party franchises
-Lack of experience in industry
-Lack of Support from Japanese and Asian Gamers
-Size of system (Japan)
-Too close to a computer (same problems as a PC)
-Controller design is non-ergnomic
-Piracy is expacted to be rampant as the technology is almost identicle to PC technology
-Microsoft's reputation among gamers.
-Loyalty towards Nintendo.
-Lack of funds for gamers that have already purchased Competing Systems (PS2)
-Saturated Market
-Price point
-Ease of use (expected to be more complicated for a younger audience.
-Installation, disk space and loading issues presented by a hard drive.
-Emphasis on highbandwidth network gaming, when the majority of the gaming public is not at that point yet.
-Bill Gates is ugly (I've seen this one so many times)
-Nintendo's connecting GBA and GameCube offers expanded gameplay benefits.
-Too Complicated.
-Not ready for a new technology.
-Loyalty towards Sony

I don't think it will "fail", but I do think it will be the least popular of the next-gen systems. The launch will probably be less than stellar as a lot of the hype for X-Box, especially in the gaming media, died down after the poor E3 showing, and Gamecube's took off. Plus, IMO, the X-Box game line-up looks pretty crappy compared to PS2 and Gamecube, especially when comparing games that will be exclusives.

It won't fail, it should make the Gamecube fail if we're lucky though, i'd kill to see Nintendo go out of business to real companies can put out their products and get a bigger share of the market.

Oh yeah, I agree all the way. Let's get Nintendo out of the picture, so real video game companies can continue to push their DVD/Videogame Console hybrids...

X Box is failing folks, and it won't be a pretty sight when the king is absolutely thrown from his high hill. Goodbye Mr. Gates!

[whine voice]"X-box is gonna fail" "Bill Gates is stupid" "I hate Microsoft because they are a large company" "whaaaaahh"[/whine]

My friend has a PS2 and there are no good games for it... I haven't seen anything (and we've rented pretty much everything available) worth a crap and it's been out for half a year now. We played Gran Tourismo 3 last night and I didn't see anything new. Same tracks - same graphics (only slightly improved IMHO) and nothing really revolutionary - it seemed rushed. Overall - I think PS2 sucks and I wouldn't buy it if it was $100 and the games were $9 each (but that's getting close to what I think it's worth). I think it's funny how people are so loyal to Sony because Microsoft is this giant evil corporation, but Sony is even worse than Microsoft. Playstation 2 launched with like 4 crappy titles or something. X-Box is set to launch with a ton of awesome games available. I don't know - I've never been tempted to buy a console system until the X-Box. I've never owned any consoles besides the Atari 2600, but I've played them all and haven't been impressed enough to buy. I don't think the X-Box will fail - I think it will surprise alot of people by delivering a superior product with superior games. Just my opinion.

Fail? Perhaps, perhaps not. But if they want to make it, they have a LONG way to go, based on the games that I played one month ago. Considering they haven't produced even one system yet, the road gets even longer if they hope to make their 500,000 units by November.

Trigger, What are X-Box's big exclusive launch titles?

DOA3 - *yawn*
Halo - I'll get it on PC, if at all
Oddworld - Will probably be good, but a system seller?

That's tempting you to buy your first console in 20 years? Just wait for the inevitable PC ports.

Are all of you Nintendo fans who have yet to play the X-Box? Have any of you played it? Did any of you go to E3?

"Ohh its microsoft, I hate microsoft", or is it bill gates you hate so much? You must have Mac or Lynix to be so anti-microsoft. The X-Box is going to slaughter the competition, Gamecube is a childs play thing! And the PS2 needs a decent game to get gamers attention. Sony has about 2.5x the amount of money microsoft has and yet no one is anti Sony.

The only thing sadder then being a Gamecube fan and wanting to buy a gamecube, is being a gamecube fan and wanting to buy it without actually playing it.

Im sorry should I have just said, "BUMP"?

The launch will probably be less than stellar as a lot of the hype for X-Box.........Plus, IMO, the X-Box game line-up looks pretty crappy compared to PS2 and Gamecube, especially when comparing games that will be exclusives.
If you think the PS2 launch lineup was successful, you're a fool. Even Sony and their die hard fans acknowledge that the PS2 launch was a near, if not total disaster w/ lack of consoles and quality titles.

And regardless of what some of you want to think, there is room for 3 successful consoles. I bet that some of you would love a one-console world where games are mediocre and priced thru the roof. I hope that most of you who spew forth this drivel of one console "winning" and the other "failing" are senseless teenagers who have nothing better to do w/ their time, that would explain the lack of common sense that some of you reflect in your childish posts.

Keep in mind that YOU are not what drives the console gaming market. If there is a winner, or a loser, it will be decided by the masses AFTER legitimate hands on experience and/or reviews w/ all 3 consoles. Personally, I like what XBOX will be bringing to the table. But guess what??? I will most likely buy 2 of 3 of the systems because I can afford it! Face it, some of you are upset because there is now a CHOICE of consoles to satisy everyone's gaming needs, and it bothers some of you that there is the possibility of you making in your eyes the WRONG choice and having to live w/ your decision a long time because of the money that you invested in your choice.

Granted, it would be so much easier if there was only one superior console that everyone could identify as "the one to get" such as a PS vs. N64 scenario. In that scenario, the hands down, obvious choice was the PS, and that's what everyone bought. Right now, XBOX is in the same position that Sony was once in and regardless of what some of you are trying hard to convince yourselves of, XBOX WILL NOT FAIL! People outside of the gaming forums such as this one are excited about XBOX and are anxious to see what it can do. Gaming forums are not an accurate barometer of how a system will do. Product identification, marketing, and the appeal of the masses is what will launch XBOX into the spotlight just like it did Sony - when many of YOU wondered what they were thinking by trying to compete w/ Nintendo. Sony changed gaming forever and took it to a new level. XBOX stands poised to do similar things (at least it promises to).

My parting words to you all is: If you can't afford more than one system (understandable), do yourself a favor and buy based on the GAMES that appeal to you and stop playing the "system" wars. And to the childish, brand loyal whiners........GROW UP!!!!!!

I agree, but its not simply that people can't afford more then one system, they just don't want to invest in the wrong one.
I honestly plan to buy an X-Box first, and if Metroid or Zelda are any good a Gamecube. It seems to me theres always been three systems and companys involved.

Always three? To me the first big battle was only a duel between Sega and Nintendo. Atari really never had any competition and it still managed to blow that. I admit, I AM biased towards Nintendo, but I will probably purchase all three consoles because no matter what company I prefer, I still want to be able to have access to what games third parties will produce.

A big reason I think it'll fail is the total apathy shown by the Japanese game developers, and japanese game consumers. The majority of games out there are developed by Japanese companies, and the Japanese video game industry is huge, easily surpassing the US. The Japanese also tend to be very nationalistic, and will support their own country's companies than foreigners'.

As I mentioned in my post, yes I have played X-Box. I've played multiple games by multiple companies. I played them a while after E3. I'm definitely not anti-MS. I think Win2k is the best OS I've ever used. I've got at least 4 of their gaming titles on PC.

That being said, MS has a LONG way to go. They have yet to produce one unit that will be sold in stores, and they expect to have 500,000 units delivered to stores by November 1st? With the exception of Oddworld, every game I played was very below average. That goes beyond "simple" things like framerate that might be cleaned up before release. I'm talking about things that, given the timeline, can't be fixed by release date.

On a seperate note, calling Gamecube a child's play thing is silly and pretty much contradicts many of the points that you were trying to make about playing things before you judge, looking at screenshots, and looking at the lists of titles.

Speaking of titles...how many of those titles that you listed do you think will be exclusive to X-Box?

Plus, when you grow up and get a life you don't have time to play games on a bunch of systems like when you were a kid/teenager. I think the X-box will do fine, but I won't considering buying one, and I'm not getting a PS2 either. It looks like most of the big third party games will be on all three systems. Leaving only first and second party games as exclusives. IMO Nintendo has a huge advantage in this area. No exclusives on PS2 or X-box will compare to Mario, Luigi, Wave Race, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, Perfect Dark, Banjo, Donkey Kong and all the other Rare games. Since I only have the time and money to invest in one next-gen system I'm going with the Gamecube because of these exclusives. It will get most of the big third party games to, with the exception of square, which I don't really care about since FF has went downhill since FFIII. Plus FF is going online after X and I hate online games.

Microsoft is sinking so much money into this, there won't be a shortage, and if there is it will because they want one. Sony is one of the most powerfull companys in the world. Do you really belive that the PS2 shortage was an accident??? The gamecube is a childs toy, aren't you sick of finding coins, or bannanas, or batterys, or any other stupid treasure hunt type of game? It got old fast, and Luigis Manshion is like that. Most of the games are cute little characters, and while I don't mind the occasional Mario Kart, the tend to make too many too often. Phantasy Star Online, Metroid, Mario Kart, and if done right Zelda are going to be games that sell the system. Companys don't sell the system, games do.

And as for that "Lets give all the bugs to Japan" crap, what are you some kinda racist? There are a few Japanese supporters who are backing up Microsoft, that's why there are games like Metal Gear Solid X on it. Capcom is supporting them as well.

HE'S RIGHT BEHIND YOU!! TURN AROUND!

Well I have a DC and a PS2 and will have a GC and Xbox next to those when they come out. No reason to miss out on good games.

All the Japanese software developers have announced limited game support for the Xbox. They are not bringing that many games over at all... for example, look at the number and percentage of games that are made by japanese developers that are coming out for the xbox, and compare that with the PS2 or gamecube. Huge difference.
