Did they ever say?

All I remember is that they had an episode where she just came back from spending the summer with him, but I don't think they ever really said much about him. I thought tonights episode was one of the best, but hardest to watch episodes of Buffy yet.

Divorced parents, he still lives in LA. Last time they mentioned him was in Buffy, the high school years.

I thought he was mentioned sometime this season (possibly when Joyce fell ill?)--Buffy saying that he was vacationing in Europe with a girlfriend (his secretary, maybe?) and couldn't be reached. Maybe I'm hallucinating, though. I'm still trying to figure out if there is any hidden symbolism to the Cheese Man who appeared in "Restless."
