This plus American Ninja Warrior equals two hours of network programming combined that can be watched in less time than a single half-hour sitcom.

I'll echo most of the comments. I watched with the kids, and they loved it as well. Don't care about the backstories, or how they seem to telegraph the winners, but like that I can watch it in 10-15 minutes. The kids wanted to watch another one right away. Any old ones available online anywhere?

Fast forward (through endless back-story, commercials, countdowns and analysis) for the win (and 12 mins of action).

I watched the old show religiously, and I love that it's back on the air with some of the same folks who were part of the original show. I would like a better explanation of the new rules, not only the multiple bots, but also the use of flame, etc.. I believe the old show had a rule that you couldn't use fire or anything else that would be emitted from the bots (water, oil, arrows, bullets, etc). Every weapon then had to be remain physically connected to the bot. If you can use flame now, what else can you use? And what about drones? Are they legal now?

Last night had more action than the first week. Pretty fun to watch.
The robot with the thick-ass spinning blade (Tombstone?) was awesome. As long as that thing holds up and keeps spinning, I can't imagine it wouldn't destroy all of the others.
The net thing was pretty funny, but the other guy was right, kind of a cheap way to win.

It was especially funny all wrapped up as a present in a box. The other guy couldn't help himself and went straight for it. He was tangled about 2 seconds into the match.

Yeah, I was really surprised by that final bout. I figured Biteforce would get torn to shreds with those treads and that lean pincher arm.
Curious if this will be back. I know ratings weren't amazing, but for summer programming it did okay. Plus it can't be too expensive to make, especially since they've already built the assets for the Battlebox.

I seem to recall a recent Kenny Florian interview wherein he mentioned plans to move production of next season to LA (from San Francisco).

'BATTLEBOTS' TWO-HOUR SEASON PREMIERE
32 Competitors From Across the Globe Will Fight in a Series of Matches
Special Guest Judge Adam Savage ("MythBusters")
"Robots Activate: Qualifying Round Begins" - The extraordinary robot-fighting tournament "BattleBots" will kick things off with a two-hour season premiere on THURSDAY, JUNE 23 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT) on the ABC Television Network. The first round of next-generation robots will go head to head, as 32 teams converge in an arena full of hazards for the chance to advance out of the qualifying round in pursuit of the championship.
Each match will consist of a three-minute bout in which the goal is to completely destroy or disable the opponent. If there is no knockout during the three-minute battle, the panel of judges will declare a victor to move onto the next round. Judging the matches are former "BattleBots" competitor and special effects artist Fon Davis, the face of "Nerdist," Jessica Chobot, and special guest judge Adam Savage ("MythBusters").
48 builders representing four continents make up this year's field - double the size of last year's tournament. With them they bring an unprecedented arsenal, innovative designs, destructive new weapons and for the first time in the history of robot-fighting tournaments, the launch of drone warfare. The competitors range from NASA engineers to teenage students and everyone in between - each with one goal: to claim the ultimate title and walk away with the Giant Nut. Winners from the 24 matches in the qualifying round automatically advance, after which the selection committee picks eight wildcards from the losers to join them. Once the teams advance out of the qualifying round, it's single elimination all the way to the title.
ESPN's Samantha Ponder hosts season two, with expert play-by-play analysis from veteran sports broadcaster Chris Rose and color commentary from former UFC fighter Kenny Florian. Sideline reporter Alison Haislip covers every inch of the robot fighting mayhem, and ring announcer Faruq Tauheed presides as the bots go metal-a-metal.

"BattleBots" is a reimagined take on the killer robot combat sport from Whalerock Industries and the creators of the original "BattleBots" franchise, Ed Roski and Greg Munson. The homemade robots will battle against each other in a single elimination tournament until there is one champion. The ten episode series will feature next generation robots - bigger, faster and stronger than ever before. The show will continue to emphasize the design and build elements of each robot, the bot builder backstories, their intense pursuit of the championship and the spectacle of the event. While there's only one weight-class, there are a huge variety of deadly weapons. Forty-eight robots will enter, but, in the end, only one will win the final trophy. This show is fun but really frustrating.
Too much stuff about the builders and not enough actual battle.
Then tonight they showed hi-lites of maybe 4 or 5 battles and not the entire battle.
Also almost every battle I had no idea what one of the bots was supposed to do.

I do love Molly's tight white dresses, need to show close ups of behind view so we can inspect for VPL
Anyway getting back to the show, very entertaining, like American Ninja warrior, there is a lot of rubbish to fast forward through.
some of the robots you know will get smashed in later rounds.
I would love to see certain projectile weapons allowed, like arrows, bolts, ball bearings and very small calibre pistol rounds (22 LR).

At least more stuff to watch than Spartan! (But I can see the summary bouts given they have 24-16-8-4-2-1 matches to show in however many episodes.)
I'd like to see 1) whether a drone can make a difference and 2) a truly new weapon type (is one person using guns? or gun-like weapons?).
Lots of hammers so far.

The drones are cool idea but all have completely been worthless.
