Have I been watching The Bear all wrong? It is classified as a comedy?

Kinda pulling for Bowen Yang just to see the reaction here

Note: Though I don't mind him he in no way deserves an emmy for anything he's done on SNL the last few years (if ever).

The Rehearsal not getting nominated for best comedy is a crime.

I don’t have any opinion on Yang. I don’t like him or dislike him. It is, however increasingly curious how he gets so much recognition. There’s got to be something else at play here.

At least now he's a certified star on SNL. He got his first Emmy nomination when he was still a featured player on the show. That was beyond comprehension.

I agree. It was maybe the best non-drama on TV last season.
At least Fiedler got a writing nomination. Hope he wins. Same for Dan Gilroy on Andor. We don't need sweeps, recognize excellence in writing.

Yeah I was shocked to read that this was his fifth nomination. I feel like I've been watching SNL more closely the last 3 years than I have since I was a teen so can only confidently speak to those seasons but he'd probably be like the 7th or 8th person in the cast I'd nominate from any of those years.

This one continues to annoy me. They get to classify it as a comedy because it's a 30 minute show (or something like that) and I think it's easier to win awards in the comedy category. But it is not a comedy, not even really a dramedy.

Well it stunningly lost to Hacks last year, so the backlash has already happened.
The really weird thing about The Bear is that the awards are for the previous season that aired over a year ago, not the current one. So today's nominees are from last year's poorly received season, not this summer's improved one. We will see how the voters respond. I suspect The Studio to do very well and probably share most of the major Comedy awards along with Hacks.

Re: 2025 Emmy Awards Discussion

According to Deadline, Bella Ramsey made "Emmy History" by becoming the first openly non-binary actor to be nominated more than once for an Emmy. Without wading too far into culture wars, I really don't think that distinction really qualifies as historic, since it's just a self-identification and had no bearing on the nomination process.

Re: 2025 Emmy Awards Discussion

I could see the first time they or whomever was the first to be nominated was nominated being very noteworthy but the first multi time nominee doesn’t do much for me, straight white guy. 🤷

Re: 2025 Emmy Awards Discussion

Andor got 14 noms… and only one for acting and that’s Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera) a characters he’s played on film and in cartoons. Good for him.

Oh, and I dislike Bowen Yang.

Every season, it gets mocked for that a lot.

Re: 2025 Emmy Awards Discussion

They know that the show wouldn't have a chance if it was in the drama category (where it should be) instead.

I need to catch up on some of these shows before the award ceremony. I'm halfway through The Penguin, guess I should finish it.

So everyone in the television industry is familiar with the same dozen or so shows, and that's it.

Really glad that Harrison Ford got nominated for Shrinking. He was 'snubbed' for Season One. I like his work on that show.
His first Emmy nomination ever!

I enjoyed Ben Mendelsohn‘s work over Forest Whitaker for Andor. His interrogation scene was terrifying (if you know, you know).

It seems that way.
Also, once they like a show - they continue to nominate even if the quality has dropped off dramatically and the show is crappy.
I don't care about awards, but I had to see if they still did this by checking to see if "The Bear" was still being nominated for another crappy season. Yep - still doing it.

i really hope Goggins wins for TWL. I thought his portrayal of a person in great grief out weighs Issac's performance, even though he was really good as well.

If Cristin Milioti doesn't win, the whole thing is a sham.

If Sam Rockwell just didn't have that one scene in the hallway in E8, he'd have been a lock to win Guest Actor, Drama. But because he appeared in 4 of 8, he's ineligible for Guest and has to compete against Goggins. He better not miss an EGOT because of that decision (seems unlikely, but he can sing, so with the right Broadway musical, you never know).

Edit to spoiler this:
Spoiler:
When he put his finger on her head, I thought he was going to push it into her skull. That improvisation was the key.
