Nice to have a show airing that’s worth having episode threads again.

I spaced this entirely. For some reason I’m not feeling the hype for season two like I was with season one.

Why the fuck is this ASL on by default? I can’t figure out how to turn it off on Apple TV either.

Liked the first episode. The actress that plays Dina looks like a young Mila Kunis

More of the same - which will thrill those who loved the first season. I was more meh on it and still am.. just not really interested in the lead characters (the actors are fine but aren't really elevating the material in any way) I'm still expecting some great sequences and with only six more to go I'll continue watching.

Glad it's back. If you haven't played the game, you are in for a heck of a season, with this season only being half of the game. Really liked the therapist scene and the stalker scene was well done.

I thought it was ok. The stalker sequence was well done and I liked Isabela Merced as Dina.

Re: The Last of Us (S2E01) -- "Future Days" -- 4/13/25

I was a little put off by the change in how things are being portrayed. Particularly,
Spoiler:
Abby and her friends shortly after the Firefly massacre.
Everything leading up to and including the celebration.

as these things were revealed a bit later in the game, but overall it seems like the right choice for the show.

However, those unfamiliar with the game should NOT watch the post-show EPK-style interviews after the credits. The actress playing Abby mentions her character’s motivation, but the specifics of this were not immediately clear in the episode.
Game/plot spoiler:
Spoiler:
she mentions she wants revenge for her father’s death whereas the episode keeps it fairly vague as to exactly who she is mourning. Now, she does not say who her father was… but with this information, someone could rewatch it and figure it out because of what one of her friends says.

Not a massive spoiler… but I’m surprised they left that in the interview.

This was an excellent episode, regardless, and the casting of the new characters is great. My wife noted that Ellie makes too many bad decisions, then paused and said oh right, that’s kind of the point.
(She’s played both games, so she knows what’s up)

The sound on this is awesome. During the Ellie and Dina scene in the market the surround sound was driving my dogs insane.

That overhead view of the town in Jackson was just beautiful. I don't know if it was re-created or real but it was spectacular in 4k.

The whole episode I was thinking it looked really good, like clear picture and well lit; no changes on my end with my TV settings (an old-ish TCL series 4 that I have to fiddle with from time to time depending on show/service to get a better picture)

They stuck really close to the opening scenes in the game

I don't even have the 4k for Max and the PQ was still noticeably outstanding.

Even better than the final season of Game of Thrones?

uhh…
Spoiler:
the barn dance is in Chapter 11, right before the last section of the game. To be fair, it’s a flashback to the first full day shown in last night’s episode… but that’s one thing I was talking about when I mentioned how they changed/rearranged how they’re telling the story. It’s fine, but changes how the narrative beats and emotional moments hit.

I was having a hard time focusing and staying engaged . . . will have to give it another watch.

The one thing that was glaring at me was

Spoiler:
we jumped ahead 5 years after the escape. Then the therapist said it was her FIRST birthday without her husband because Joel killed him. I was assuming he was at the hospital . . . but that doesn't work. So who the hell was Eugene?

I am betting we will get some flashbacks

Spoiler:
He’ll show up in a flashback later this season, you see him for a second in one of the trailers for the season. Joe Pantoliano is playing Eugene.

Re: The Last of Us (S2E01) -- "Future Days" -- 4/13/25

Refresh my memory since it's been 2 years since season 1.

Why do Joel and Ellie seem very distant from each other? She's very cold to him in this episode. I remember in season 1, episode 9. Joel went on a killing rampage to save Ellie from being operated on.

And the bodies who those young people were mourning. The new character introduced Abbie was mourning her father. Was her father killed by Joel?

That's the trouble with these really long gaps between seasons on scripted shows these days.

Joel shot up the entire Firefly compound to save Ellie from being sacrificed to come up with a vaccine. He killed dozens and doomed civilization to save her.
He lied to her about what happened and when she asked him if he was telling the truth he said he was, but she didn't really believe him.
The people at the start of the episode were mourning their friends in the Firefly compound killed by Joel.

All that will be answered during the season.

I was glad I didn't have much to do on Sunday, so I pretty much watched the whole first season again as HBO was running it before the premiere. Well, at least I had it on in the background, I didn't watch every minute. But it did help get me back into the story for the premiere.

The key takeaway is that it's been 5 years and Joel lied about what happened with the Fireflies. As MrX said above, there's more to it, but that will be revealed soon enough.
