Star Trek: Lower Decks. Barely made it thru the first episode the first time. When season 2 was about to start my friend said to give it another shot and stick with it. By episode 4... I was hooked.

Fringe

My parents watched it but I thought it looked like an X-Files rip off so I stopped after the first couple of episodes. After the series ended I borrowed my mom's dvd sets and now it is my second favorite show behind Twin Peaks. The BDs are some of my most watched.

I watched the pilot when it first aired and didn't like it. Didn't watch anymore. Four years later I'm channel surfing and came upon a late season 4 episode. It was great. Right after that TNT began airing an episode every day in preparation for season 5 on TNT. Watched the whole thing.

Same on the pilot... then came across it again at the first episode of season 2. I was hooked... It's become one of if not my favorite show of all time. I have seen the whole series at least a dozen times.

Haven

SyFy series that aired over 10 years ago. I can’t believe it’s been that long. Initially I didn’t really like it. I thought the lead Emily Rose was kind of wooden. I came back to it weeks later and let it grow on me and got more interested in the story and mythology. It quickly became one of my favorite SyFy shows at that time. It later 5 seasons, which is an eternity these days.

I haven't started it yet but Slow Horses. Iirc I watched one or two and sort of liked it but just never continued. I know it is good so I will get into it here soon.

Star Trek: DS9. I avoided it originally (after watching a few eps here and there), but it's a great show. Much better than TNG.

I miss that show. Thought Edge was/is a pretty good actor.

I gave the Quantum Leap revival another chance when it appeared on streaming. Very different than the original of my youth, but still overall enjoyable. Glad I gave it another try.

Venture Bros.

We watched a few episodes when it just starting and I didn't care for it, I guess I thought it was too cute or clever.
After a little while, my wife wanted to try again and we let ourselves get into the flow and now I think it's one of the better animated shows ever made.

you'll be doing yourself a favor as SH is fabulous. you can't beat 6 episodes all under an hour. Usually 40 minutes or so, I believe. It will be a quick watch if you do indeed get into it. But I think it's definitely one of the best streaming right now. Well, it's over now, but every season preceding was just so good.

Re: Shows you gave a second chance?

it's funny for me. I've tried to watch Firefly a few times and never got into it. But I absolutely love Serenity, the movie. It is one of my favs and I am not sure exactly why I can't get through the one and only season. but i will try try again.

Also, Game of Thrones was a second start for me. Saw the first few episodes and just thought it wasn't for me. Gave it another shot by starting from the beginning, then I caught up and couldn't wait until the next Monday to watch Sunday's episode. It turned out to be one of my favorite 7 seasons of tv ever.

Re: Shows you gave a second chance?

A.P. Bio

Watched the first handful of episodes during the original broadcast run. Then I stopped, didn't like it.

Years later, it's on Netflix now. I rewatched from the pilot episode. Again, I get to about episode 5 or 6 and can't stand it anymore.

So yes, I gave it a second chance. And it still sucks.

Are you watching the episodes in the proper order? Depending on where you watch, the first few episodes could be in the wrong order which throws plots, character interactions, etc. out of whack.

Re: Shows you gave a second chance to and loved?

Depends on where/how you watch, because they were aired out of order and that carried over onto home media formats, IIRC. Not sure how that translated over to streaming.

Episode Order:
Spoiler:
  1. Serenity
  2. The Train Job
  3. Bushwhacked
  4. Shindig
  5. Safe
  6. Our Mrs. Reynolds
  7. Jaynestown
  8. Out of Gas
  9. Ariel
  10. War Stories
  11. Trash
  12. The Message
  13. Heart of Gold
  14. Objects in Space

He means they aired on TV in the wrong production order and that’s why they made no sense storywise.

It is Philly not PA.

hmmmm. As a lifelong fan, I’d say season 7. I don’t think there’s any new cannon to follow.

Re: Shows you gave a second chance to and loved?

Most shows I don't care for the first time around, I still don't with a 2nd chance, but there are 2 shows, which made it into my all-time favorites, after a 2nd chance. The first being Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I watched the first 2 seasons on a semi-regular basis, but never really got into it. Then I stopped and many years later a friend of mine, who shares the same taste in movies and shows, said that for him DS9 is the best Star Trek show ever. So I started again and really liked it.
The 2nd show is NYPD Blue I watched a couple of episodes, when in started, but I think I was to young at the time. In 2007 I gave it another chance and fell in love immediately. What's curious about NYPD Blue is, that I didn't really binge the show, although I liked it so much. I didn't want to waste it, so I took my time. I finished season 11 in 2013 and didn't watch the last season until 2020.

Re: Shows you gave a second chance to and loved?

NYPD: Blue is a good one. I gave the first couple seasons with Caruso a shot (an episode here and there) and wasn't feeling it. Gave it a second chance with Smits and was immediately in. Of course, Smits is so damn likable it would be hard not to be sucked in once he joined. I later went back to the Caruso years on DVD and finally saw what everyone else saw from the start. He was damn good and played really well with Franz. Those two seasons are phenomenal. Like you, I think it was just age. I just needed a few more years of life to gel with it.
