The X-Files are my favorite show of all time; I don't know if I can watch a version without Mulder and Scully (played by Duchovny and Anderson ofc).

Coogler has said that he can't even start the Black Panther 3 script until the Russo Brothers finish the next two Marvel films so that leaves plenty of time to get The X-Files off the ground.

A bit off topic but these next two MCU projects from the Russo Brothers sound very make or break for the studio. If Doomsday and Secret Wars both flop or underperform, with BP 3 even happen? Don't see why Disney would keep throwing money at something that doesn't generate interest.

In terms of X-Files, I seem to recall Coogler stating that there may be some involvement from Muldaur and Scully, but they will no longer be the focal points. I'm thinking new faces with actors like Donald Glover and KeKe Palmer might be the best route.

Donald Glover would be interesting.

I just hope Coogler and all involved are big enough fans to do it up right and respect what came before.

It's odd to me that Disney would only greenlight a pilot, as opposed to a full season.

They only greenlighted a pilot for the new Buffy reboot and that was apparently shot already and still hasn’t received a series order yet.

Danielle Deadwyler has found her partner in the X-Files and it's Station Eleven and Yesterday star Himish Patel.

They were both very good in “Station Eleven”.

You cant and shouldnt. Why cant the allegedly "talented" Coogler come up with his own stuff? .

Yet another classic franchise looking to be rebooted. Terrific.

Well, he won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar two weeks ago.

No real interest in this, but new characters is the way to go. They can always bring in legacy actors and include the original series as they see fit, no downside imo.

Re: Ryan Coogler Developing ‘X-Files’ Reboot

I would have watched a version of the X-Files with Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish back in the day, so I don't have a problem with a new version without Mulder and Scully. It's not that I've watched other X-Files clones over the years. I liked Fringe a lot and that wasn't that different.

Re: Ryan Coogler Developing ‘X-Files’ Reboot

We've introduced my sons to the X-Files this year, skipping the occasional episode or scene that they're not old enough for. I loved the show when it was on the air and rewatched the original run on DVD, but it's probably been around 20 years since I've seen most of the episodes. I've been pleasantly surprised by how well most of them hold up, though I'm not looking forward to getting to seasons 8 & 9. I still haven't seen season 11, after being wildly disappointed in 10. If the network was just trying to wring more cash out of this, I'd be pretty skeptical, but the fact that it's a passion project for someone as talented as Coogler has my hopes up.

The casting tells me they have an eye on the UK market for this reboot/remake.

Re: Ryan Coogler Developing ‘X-Files’ Reboot

I've rewatched the show several times. Twice in the last 2 or 3 years. The first six seasons are insanely rewatchable. It's ironic how just when Duchovny was burnt out the writers seemed like they were too. The latter seasons are still decent but, the conspiracy episodes are a slog. I've only seen seasons 10 and 11 once. I tried rewatching recently and couldn't get through the season 10 premiere. I thought the second movie was awful as well.

The 2nd movie would have been a solid episode during the shows run, but as a movie and a continuation it was a let down.

Re: Ryan Coogler Developing ‘X-Files’ Reboot

I'm in the middle of a rewatch with my teen. Wasn't sure how well it would hold up for someone completely new to the series, but it's been a winner. Season 1-2 was a slow build (I'd ask her every once in awhile if she wanted to watch and we worked our way through), but by the end of season 2 our roles reversed and my daughter started asking me if/when we can watch X-files. Proud moment there.

We're halfway through season 4, and we finally got to "Home." I explained beforehand that it was a banned episode for a period which piqued her interest ("what could they possibly do to get banned?"). I hadn't seen it in years and man, that pre-credits intro... that alone was probably the deciding factor, but then it just gets crazier and continues to get crazier. Such a blast to revisit. After it was over she grabbed her phone and started furiously texting her partner. Me: "You're texting about X-files, aren't you." Her: "yeah"

Introducing them to cool shows and movies is probably the only valid reason to have kids, so you seem to be a good father.

For some reason, I was thinking Home came later in the run. My boys are 8 & 11 and we'll definitely be skipping that episode. We're about halfway through season 2 and my wife and I read brief recaps before each episode in an attempt to jog our memory on if we need to skip any or all of it. I think the only ones so far that we've skipped outright are Gender Bender and 3.

That's sweet. Thanks. We probably watch too much, but both of my kids (19 & 21) have absolutely loved watching/experiencing all the various shows and movies over the years that I've shown them(and even mentioned it recently). It's funny overhearing them talk to friends or co-workers (they both work with me) and bring up movies, quotes, references, etc. and the person (generally GenZ) they're talking to are clueless which leads to; "you haven't seen...X!? OMG you have to watch it!" Then they start trying to find what streaming service it's on for the other person.

Or they'll go to hang out with friends, or have them over and ask to take one of our movies to share that same love of whatever film they've chosen.

It's also been fun trying to pick the right movies to show them as they have gotten older and their tastes have diverged. My oldest has zero interest in X-Files, for example.
