I agree. This is a strange show and I thought some of the performances were a little over the top, specifically Poots and Taylor, but I like the idea of this show. I just sort of wish it had a little more explanation. The final episode left a bunch of cliffhangers/unanswered questions that if it doesn't get a second season, there would be no reason to even watch this show.

There are similarities with "Dark" but "Outer Range" seems to embrace it's weirdness more. It's kind of "Dark" mixed with "Twin Peaks". I read an interview with Brolin and he said there was a lot of room to test what works and what doesn't and change things as they went along. Also what seems like overacting at times was done on purpose. I liked S1 and I'm curious to see how the show develops in S2

I usually love this type of show, but this one lost me. The acting, directing and production values were all great, but the writing was lousy. The characters pretty quickly turned into plot devices in service a skittery and half-baked plot. It's like the writer's pitch was, 'You know how Lost started with a great concept and cast and then slowly pissed away nearly all of its goodwill with thinly sketched characters, unanswered mysteries and self-aggrandizing mumbo jumbo? What if I told you I could do that in just 8 episodes and with cowboys?'

i liked this show a lot, but there is absolutely no reason for the show to be as dark as it is. it doesn't serve the plot at all. it's unwatchable with any sort of ambient light with a normal calibrated tv.

^Agreed, even when viewing in a dark room it was hard to make out things on the screen sometimes because the image was so dark.

Just finished and read this thread.
For the most part I was intrigued. As strange as it was, I was able to follow it and guess a few key points before they happened.
The only thing I couldn’t wrap my head around was the strangeness of Billy Tillerson… he’s just plain cracked and easy for Autumn to manipulate.
I’m in for Season 2.

I just got out of Top Gun: Maverick and was kicking myself that I couldn’t remember where I had seen the actor that played “Bob”… then I realized it was Rhett Abbott!!! Albeit he made TG:M before Outer Range so he looked young.

It doesn't hurt that he has similar facial features to his dad. He's recognizable without having seen him anywhere else heh.

Glad to see this renewed...AND with a new runner. So much potential for this one. Surprised it took over 6 months to decide. Ratings probably middling and it was on the fence.

I made the mistake of watching the first one of the second season hoping to get some answers only to get more confused...THEN the preview of the season. ^Thank you for that summary.
UGH I now must watch see season 2 it drew me in. I have no willpower it seems.
