I'm actually okay with the "Hollow Earth" stuff in this universe, whether it's an actual hollow earth or some kind of other dimension.

The idea that the Earth is hollow is really bad science, but so are kaiju, and that's why I'm okay with combining them in this universe. Might as well go full-measure and explain some bad science with even worse science.

The Hollow Earth is a fun way to wrap ones head around Giant Monsters existing and not showing up every other day. 😂 Giant Squids in our mostly unexplored oceans is one thing, but they aren't Godzilla sized Titans.

Speaking of oceans and creatures hiding...im still waiting for a Meg Shark to show up...

I guess there's a rumor going around this may not get renewed. The showrunners are hopeful, but Apple has let them know yet.

I wouldn't lose sleep if this didn't come back. Felt the season gradually lost steam.

Well, the new movie looks like it's going to be the last nail in the kaiju, sorry, titan, coffin, so they might just let it go.

Honestly it does not deserve another season.

GvK was a hit. Was it a great movie? No. But it was dumb fun for most filmgoers, so it did well. There's no reason GxK won't do well also. And, if it does, that might warrant continuing the series.

I enjoyed the show.
Hopefully the next movie does well and gets this show another season.

Now the question is Will Kurt Russell be back? I'm sure he will, but in what form. Full-time or guest star.

I hope so. He was the glue that held everything else together.

So glad GxK was such a hit, as I am sure it contributed in a large part to this show's return. Here's hoping they waste no time getting Kurt and Wyatt Russell back, and give tons more screen time to Mari Yamamoto.

I hope we don't have to wait until 2026 for the 2nd season. But, it's a large ensemble show with international locations and lots of special effects. So it wouldn't surprise me. Maybe they can get it ready by late 2025?

re: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV+) - Season 1 Thread - premieres 11/17/23

I think that since it was kind-of a surprise last minute renewal announcement, and as you pointed out, a very effects heavy show with actual on-location shoots, that at best we get this sometime in 2026.

I can be patient.

Roc, I agree with you 100% that since GxK has turned out to be not just a financial hit but a crowd pleaser that it saved Monarch from being a one and done show. There were some fun bits in the series, and I hope we do see more of that in the second season. GvK managed to fit in some relatively heavy dramatic moments / family drama (at least "heavy" scenes as far as what you might expect to get in films that focus on giant monsters usually kicking the carp out of each other) along with a whole lot of crowd pleasing and somewhat inventive fights throughout the film so I am indeed looking forward to seeing more of monsters on my tv screen.

Plus the guy is 73. No guarantee he makes it to 2026, if that is the release date for season 2. Huge gaps between seasons are a big problem for elderly actors.

I gave up on this show maybe 4-5 episodes in. The characters are not likeable - The time line and age of the characters didn't make sense - Kurt Russel is supposed to be 87+ yrs old. I felt that this show really had no real story to tell. Kind of like the Show Lost - really cool premise and backstory, but really no where they wanted to go.

Negative. It had to do with how time moves in hollow earth compared to time on the surface. When Shaw came back from being stuck there, he was still the same age but everyone on the surface aged like 10 years. Remember the scene in the base where he saw Hiroshi grown up for the first time?

A similar time dilation happened at the end of the season as well when the modern-day team was down there and found May. Kentaro mentioned it was a few years later and May thought she was down there for only a short amount of time.
