Knowing my luck this will be the year that the pick the most attractive team strategy works and Nietzl and chowerhead will win with the flight attendants.

We’ve never had a double winner in this game, but on at least one occasion somebody missed both drafts and was forced to double up on the least popular team (a double quack). It was not a winning strategy.

Survivor is a game you can win on a quack. Amazing Race is not.

I found it! It was the Spring 2013 edition. It was JuryDuty who missed both drafts and got the double quack play on Winona and Chuck. They managed to finish in 6th place.

Thanks for looking that up! Yeah, I was wondering about that exact scenario, where someone bought two slots and ended up with the default for both, not where they did that AND won.

Yeah, Survivor winners can come out of nowhere, but in TAR the year I got stuck with the blonde bimbos I knew I was doomed.

I’m not a TAR historian, but it seems that all female teams and teams where one or both members are over 45 never win.

The candy scientists did pull a win out of nowhere one season. I think there have only been three all female teams that have won.

I wouldn’t be opposed to an all female team season of the show to help with this issue. It is worth noting that there have been a lot of strong women on this show, but winning isn’t easy.

As for older teams, an all Gen X & Baby Boomer edition would be fine with me, but probably a ratings disaster for CBS.

Ultimately the show isn’t designed to be fair, it’s just supposed to be entertaining.

Chip and Kim won and they were around 45 years old at the time. David and Connor were the first parent/offspring team to win and they probably could have won twice if David didn’t hurt himself the first time. The optimal team is two people who get along and do not fight and are physically fit and good at navigation. That sometimes doesn’t make for good television.

The goat farmers were my biggest surprise. In general, I prefer the young-ish (but not too young) mixed teams, but as usual I was out and on my phone during the draft. Damfino’s updated draft lists are very helpful.

The same three teams got picked last in both drafts, so there appears to be a "type" that we just don't see as likely winners.

Some folks here are going to be so pissed when their team drops out of the third leg due to "scheduling issues".
