Re: South Park -- event specials on Paramount+

Yeah it's definitely a weaker 2nd half, the Cartman's tits gags got a little uncomfortable after a while, and the pee was overboard but it definitely fixed a few things that completely ruined a character

I was wondering what happened to these. I think it's been over a year since the last one, hasn't it?

Yeah, the Streaming Wars Parts 1 and 2 were in summer 2022.

I wonder if the Max lawsuit had any effect on the release of these specials.

[Checks wikipedia]

It's kind of crazy since 2019, they've only made fourteen regular episodes and four specials. Five with this one.

I don't think we can blame the pandemic since it's an animated show they quickly throw together; it would have been the perfect thing to produce while everyone was in isolation.

I love SP and Matt and Trey seem like great dudes, but I think they're burnt out, bored and lazy with South Park

Re: South Park -- event specials on Paramount+

"Joining the Panderverse" was pretty good.

The humor was fairly broad in that it went after both Disney's shallow diversity pandering and the people who lose their minds over it. It was actually much gentler on Kathleen Kennedy than I thought it would be. Wouldn't mind seeing the Panderverse versions of the South Park characters again sometime, either.

Randy calling the kids into the kitchen to show them how to fix the oven door -- which then consisted of taking out his phone and calling a handyman -- was hilarious. Unfortunately, that b-plot kept descending into absurdity and degenerated into one of those "This hipster girl has $100,000 in college debt and no job, while this kid dropped out of high school and went to trade school and makes five million dollars a year as an electrician" memes I see all the time.

In the preview it showed Panderverse Kenny getting hit by a bus, but I don't remember that happening in the actual episode.

It had its moments like all South Parks do but felt like it was on the lower end of their stuff. C grade on both plots and overall.

Haha. Does anyone know who Kathleen Kennedy is other than us movie nerds? It got very specific when picking on her.

This was my first of these specials and I enjoyed it.

I thought about that, too. I wondered if they could've done an extra 15-second bit, maybe do it 2-3 times.
"This is all Kathleen Kennedy's fault!"
"Who's Kathleen Kennedy?"
"She's responsible for all of the new movies!"
"...Okay."

I loved it. This is the best work Trey and Matt have done in years. I thought it was consistently funny and they nailed the satire.

I watched Panderverse last night, and it was great. Surprised there hasn't been more mention of it.

Ok...so it is new. I saw an add on Twitter for it but I assumed they were just still advertising the last special.

You know you're in for a ride when the episode opens with a warning about explicit content and that it is not for children.

Randy spends most of the episode
Spoiler:
with his little shriveled dick out.

I got a lot of laughs out of "Not Suitable for Children". A lot of it was cheap, obvious laughs based on the OnlyFans premise, but sometimes that's all you need or want. Anyway, I enjoyed it a lot more than the Panderverse special. That one just didn't click with me at all.

Randy continues to be the best character on TV.

I'm just trying to beat my wife on OnlyFans...

I'm fine with this. We have too much underdeveloped junk on TV already. Less quantity more quality is fine with me. I was hoping with COVID shutdowns and Hollywood union strikes that the writers would have time to develop their projects more and get better scripts before going into production. So far I haven't seen any evidence of that happening.

At least South Park seems to realize that less is more and we would prefer a few good specials rather than 14 episodes of mediocrity.

Re: South Park -- event specials on Paramount+

I think Matt and Trey really missed the mark on "Not Suitable for Children."

I take it that the Cred drink featured in the episode is based on Prime. The episode had kids rioting in stores to get it and carrying around empty bottles so it would look they had access to the drinks just to keep up appearances.

But it seems like every store I go into has pallets of that shit sitting around untouched. For the past month, every time I go into Walmart there are two big displays of Cherry Freeze and Glowberry that look untouched -- like, there's not a single bottle that has been removed. Probably two thousand bottles just sitting there ignored like panhandlers in the parking lot with cardboard signs and gas cans. And I also see big displays of it in places like gas stations and grocery stores with nobody looking at it, let alone buying it.

Nobody wants that shit. Not even a cardboard standee of Patrick Mahomes can sell it in the Chiefs Kingdom.

Almost picked up a bottle of Cherry Freeze and Glowberry at Walmart just to see if it was any good, but since nobody else was buying it, I figured it probably isn't worth bothering with. Maybe when it goes on clearance...

Their hydration drinks are selling well. The energy drinks are sitting everywhere. They're even dumping them at Dollar Tree.

Funny because I went to Dick's sporting goods yesterday to get my son some new baseball cleats. They have an entire wall of Prime bottles. Like 20 feet long and 15 feet high. I took a pic and sent it to some buddies and they both laughed since they had seen the SP special.
